Will do a discount for any MMers, these are IMO the best LED bulbs on the market.  You can see an output shot in that thread  Big Grin

I've griped about it a lot here but it's mechanically been a good truck and it will be under warranty for a while.  I am just mostly risk averse and considering it rarely gets driven it's not worth my time to worry about what could happen.

I Ride My Bicicleta To Schoooool
Posted by: GTBrandon - 06-03-2018, 08:34 PM - Forum: Member's Projects - Replies (34)

Turns out being on a racetrack wasn't enough risk for my twenty-year-old self, so it was time for another mode of transportation. I wanted something to enjoy calm cruises, get to class without trying to manage to find a parking space, and enjoy sweet sweet gas mileage and 87 Octane. So after a couple days of looking on Craiglist, I had a slew of bikes lined up to see over the weekend. Managed to find a 1985 Honda Shadow 700c in Harrisonburg from a younger guy who seemed pretty cool and had owned the bike for around five years. He threw in two helmets, original tools, a bike cover, and service manual for $1,150 which seemed reasonable for a first bike given its condition with only 15k miles. It needed a little TLC which I was okay with, so onto the items at hand.

I needed a lot of choke to start even in the warm weather, so my first thing to do was take apart and clean the carbs up. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to take everything apart and made me see so quickly the appeal of working on bikes. Anyways, cleaned up the carbs, put everything back together, and bike runs much better now

Next, I had a slight leak coming down the side right here. I didn't see any lines running there that could be leaking other than a breather tube for the battery which I think was loose. I reconnected that so I think it should hopefully fix the issue.

Took that time looking for the leak to clean up the bike a little and I have never seen more sludge coming off tires, in my garage of all places..

Now the only other part I really need is the rear turn signal stocks as the rubber failed over time and I've got a limp-dick turn signal currently..Have them ordered and on the way so my OCD can be at ease again.

On the list of to-do:

Front Pads/Rotors (Where can I get cheap rotors, I can't find any under $150 and that seems ridiculous for a bike)
New threading on the clutch reservoir (Currently held on one side with a hose clamp)
New Tires (Current ones 10 years old but ya boy doesn't have the money right now and they still have tread so...)
Custom Plate (You know I had to do it)
Eventual modifications to turn into bobber down the road?

Also, 10 points if you understand the title reference.

  FS: '06 Pontiac GTO
Posted by: Tyler.M - 06-02-2018, 12:57 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (7)

I'm lazy, so I'm just going to copy and paste from my craigslist ad. Let me know if you have any questions.

I'm selling my 2006 Pontiac GTO with 93xxx miles on it. I've owned the car for about 4 years and used it mainly for commuting and weekend trips. It's been a great car and I've done quite a bit of work on it that you won't have to do and upgraded some of the weaker OEM parts with better units where it made sense. I'm a car enthusiast and this is my fun car. I'm looking for another project build though and unfortunately only have space in my driveway for a daily and a project so... there goes the GTO.

If you know anything about these cars you know they're a little weird compared to your everyday muscle car. Built and imported from Australia, the GTO was GM's answer to the first retro styled Mustang and it unfortunately lost that battle after only 3 years of production. At the time it was considered to have the nicest interior GM ever put in a car (and many believed that for nearly ten years) and it drove well due to the Australian cousin being more of a grand tourer than a barnstorming, quartermiler. It's a relatively uncommon car that also has a certain sleeper appeal to it.

The Good:
• New Tires
• The 6.0 litre LS2 motor was recently rebuilt by a reputable local shop. I have all the paperwork of the things done to it. Still breaking the motor in, will need to be driven carefully for the next 300 miles or so.
• K&N CAI
• JBA Headers, midpipe, exhaust. It sounds like angry lightening and backfires a bit when it's cold.
• Hinson Motorsport Engine and Transmission mounts
• LS7 Clutch and Flywheel
• Hinson Motorsports Single Piece driveshaft
• BM short throw shifter
• New Radiator, thermostat, coolant and hoses
• Stainless steel braided brake lines
• New Hawk performance brake pads
• New battery
• New badges and interior pieces
• All consumables (spark plugs, sparkplug wires, ALL fluids, air filter) have been replaced in the last 2-3 months.
• New oxygen sensors
• I'm sure there's other stuff that I can't remember.
• Recently aligned.
• I don't smoke and I also have car OCD, but I'll get the car detailed before I sign it over to the new owner.

The Bad:
• Needs cosmetic TLC. It's been sitting in my garage for a bit but it's still a 12 year old car. It's got a few dents and a big paint chip on the front bumper. I'm sure a good shop can take care of 99% of this stuff but my focus has been on the mechanical side of things.
• Will need a suspension refresh at some point.
• Some interior stitching has come undone. The seats themselves are fine, just the seams have come apart, especially in the rear near the headrests. If you know anything about GTO's, this is the number one annoyance most owners have. Any decent uppholstery shop should be able to restitch for fairly cheap.
• Comes with a full size spare but it's an aftermarket rim from the previous owner.
• Will probably need a tune from a decent shop once the motor is broken in.
• Stock headunit is not the best in the world. If I was going to keep the car, I'd replace this first.

The car is inspected, drives great and the motor is healthy. The shop did a really good job at getting a little more power of it, per butt dyno. Other than that, this is a well sorted GTO that will last you quite a long time and be something a little bit different from the Camaros and Mustangs that seem to be everywhere.

Asking 12.5k OBO.

Some of you may already know via the groupme chat, but i wanted to start a project thread for this thing. This is probably a dumb idea, but it's not costing me much (yet).

Posted more pics on Instagram as well tag name is Lolas_Z

My mom's been in love with the z3 model ever since she saw it in '96. She bought a used red '97 z3 in 1998 that she loved. It didn't have roll bars which was actually something i even knew was kind of dumb in 1999 after reading about deaths when the cars flipped (one even in DC around that time frame). I convinced her to buy a used '99 z3 with roll bars in the summer of 2000 and she ended up with this one. She has lived in the same townhouse without a garage since 1987 (where i grew up). I think she views this as her fun sporty car and has always been proud of it; she saw it almost as a trophy especially being a single mom raising a kid in the 80s/90s. It was her DD until 2010 when she bought a new Focus for practicality/reliability reasons. I even took my date to HS homecoming and HS prom using this car.

A few weeks ago during the monsoon season my mom was planning on coming out to visit her granddaughter and to drive her z over since it was a nice day after the rain. Well, there was quite a bit of standing water in the passenger side foot well and under the seat. Then she noticed some smoke coming from the passenger side and decided it would be best if she parked it and took her Focus. She told me about it and i was concerned so i rode home with her that night and drove the z back to dry out in my garage. I almost hoped it would catch on fire on the way back and i would call an uber home so she wouldn't have to deal with fixing it and selling it. I made it back and started the drying process. What complicated things was that the passenger seat was in the lowest, furthest back position, so i initially couldn't get to the mounting bolts to remove it. Since the initial plan was to sell the car i just did what i could to make it look nice and either sell it cheap to carmax or disclose everything to the new buyer as i didn't want to sink a lot of time/money into a car that was going to be sold cheaply.

After some discussions with my mom about the value and what to do she made me the offer. She still wanted to see her 'baby' so she offered me the car for free on the condition i keep it. She even offered to pay for some repairs, but i don't think i'll take her up on that. So i will soon own a 2-seater convertible (still need to do the whole title/registration thing). As for the GTI and future car situation it's up in the air right now. I'm still planning on selling it next year and getting something nicer, but now i'm considering options to other vehicle types since i have this fun car (for now); i think it'll be a cool little project.

  Want My First Bike
Posted by: GTBrandon - 05-29-2018, 03:23 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (16)

Well, it started with an obsession for crotch rockets. Seeing the videos of stunts on the street, outrunning any car, and rev bombing every stoplight. Then I rode one, Alex's R6 at this years car show, and I was less than in love. While the thing looks and sounds sweet, I don't think it's what I want. He had it sprocketed to have more power lower in the band, but feeling like I was going to flip myself backward with every twist of the throttle was not an enjoyable experience. On top of that, being hunched over just doesn't seem comfortable for me, especially with lower spine issues and riding back from the gym would be a nightmare (that part is still up in the air but for consideration none the less)

So that brings me to what I have been looking at, which is cruisers. I want the old look of a Harley, without the price of a Harley since this is my first bike. I have been looking at Yamaha V-Stars, Viragos, and Honda Rebels. I am asking your advice on other brands/models I should maybe consider, or what I should know about the ones I just listed.

I also like the idea of a bobber style, like a Triumph Bonneville, so I'm curious of the differences between bobbers and cruisers, and which I might want without quite knowing yet.

I want something that will be pretty reliable, and if something breaks will be easy to work on myself (I bring this up because I am not sure how shaft-drive would be if something was to break or if I should even worry about one of those breaking).

I would like it to be sub $2,000 and preferably lower than that as it's my first bike so under $1,500 would be especially ideal.

Lastly, I am thinking the power range of 500-600cc will be best as 250 will be too low for me to be satisfied for more than a few months, and I think a 15-20 year old 600 will be enough power to keep a smile on my face without my smile ending up on a guardrail somewhere.

Side note, how old is too old for a bike?

Thanks in advance, and INB4 someone says this thread exists somewhere else 6 years ago and I should go find that for advice Wink

  The Dadbike
Posted by: Chinampa - 05-19-2018, 08:24 PM - Forum: Member's Projects - No Replies

After waffling over selling my gs500 and keeping the cash or buying another bike, another bike landed in my lap.

I got a link to a $1600 F650 from Dave one morning and emailed the guy immediately. As it so happened I sold my GS500 the day before for $1600...

Guy had a ton of interest from all the local dad bike enthusiasts, I only got it since I was the first guy to respond.

It's a 1999 F650 with 30k or so miles, lots of little farkles and upgrade bits included. Came with an entire binder full of the bikes full maintenance history, definitely not something you expect for $1600.

Didn't take very long before I had it up on some dirt roads, she takes jumps pretty well..

Went exploring and found a forest fire

Now to the project part- took the carbs out today to check if everything was still stock inside. I was putting them back together when I noticed that both diaphragms are torn in multiple spots. No idea how the bike ran this well, I had noticed a little slump in the mid range before though so maybe this is the problem.
While I had the needles out I bumped up the circlip to the next notch, gonna see if that helps the midrange as well. Maybe looking into some 140 jets up from the stock 132s

Since the bikes gonna be down for a while I decided to try my hand at making a skid plate, I started with this perfectly legal not stolen sign
[Image: f56d4878f2f21fc1375fcffc3acd6fdf.jpg]

First mockup on the bike after a lot of bending
[Image: 10eb65228e99f55ff23986e8ee96e77e.jpg]

Little bit of trimming to cut back on the chance of foot annihilation
[Image: 59d939618f03809174e4998c0c056320.jpg]

Got the front bracket bolted on, need to drill the rest of the front mounting holes and do some final trimming.

I think I may leave a lot of the sides in tact, I sat on the bike and I can rest my feet on the skid plate, would be pretty nice for long rides

Buy things to pay for Taylor's bills
Posted by: Senor_Taylor - 05-15-2018, 11:17 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (13)

Somehow I've managed to get 2 cars towed in 2 weeks and rack up a $100+ toll violation on a work trip, so I need some monies. Time to sell some stuff.

Behringer 502 Mixer - $30

Comes with some cables and a few microphones for you aspiring podcasters or musicians. I used it for years on my Twitch channel and then to record my drumming. It's a very good mixer, but has no USB interface, so you're strictly analog for you old school folk.

The MMoped - $100

Ryan Green has dibs, but if some reason he doesn't end up buying it, it's time for it to go. I really enjoy riding it, but I have no way to get it to the track anymore. 2004 Kinetic SC with a clean title. Odometer gear fell out and all of the lights are blown, so it needs a new voltage regulator (like $15) and the rear wheel is a little out of balance at 40 mph. Missing one pedal if you want to use it as a pedal bike and has no key (just flip the kill switch and kick it over or push start it). Leaks a little fuel if you don't turn off the petcock, but a new fuel line would fix that. Brakes works and it drive very well.

Moped/Motorcycle carrier - $75

Nothing wrong with it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MED...UTF8&psc=1

Class IV hitch - $25

4 inch drop, has a locking pin with key

JBL Basspro SL under seat sub/amp $150
Posted by: ryangreen1 - 05-11-2018, 11:20 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (4)

Sold the forester, bmw has a sub under each seat already so I don’t need it. Buy this so I can buy Taylor’s moped.

It’s a refurbished one I got for $225 about a year ago but looked brand new when I opened it.

125w rms 250w max according to the label on the sub.
Sounds solid for a small package that never gets in your way.
Has an “audio sense” function if you don’t wanna run a remote wire, I never used it. All the normal stuff on a sub/amp like crossover gain and a bass boost. I’ll include what’s left of the Crutchfield wiring kit and fuse I was using. It may be enough wire to run through a small/mid size car so you don’t have to buy any more, don’t have the rca’s though.

Directv remote for scale
