  Duke Dog Shirt Order
Posted by: GTBrandon - 04-19-2018, 03:18 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (8)

So since Moxie already had the stencil ready and shirts ordered, we decided to have 30 copies of this design printed for the car show. Once these sell out, there will be no more as we will have an updated design next semester. Please leave your info (name, size, email) if you want to purchase a shirt for $15 before they sell out!

I finally listened to everyone yelling at me to sell the forester before it ruined my life like it has to so many others before me. Its been gone about a week and I was actually really sad seeing it keep going after I took the exit back home. Hopefully its in a better place now since the guy has plans to put a big turbo and manual swap it like I always said I would one day (lol RIP to him).

I wasn't really sure what I wanted out of my next car other than smaller and more power than the FXT. Parents wanted me to get something newer and said I need to "grow up" and "get a normal car" since I'm in grad school now since they thought I turned my automatic 200hp Subaru into a race car.

I had looked into a f30 328i in manual nearby but it was kinda meh especially in silver. Then I test drove a '16 GTI and really, really liked it, but the only problem was I had test drove this about an hour earlier. I wasn't sure about a 1 series since something looked off in the pictures I saw of them, but the GroupMe convinced me to go look at one and as soon as I saw this one in this color I was sold. This thing was so clean inside and out I feel bad about parking it outside.

The dealer I got it from is a guy linked to a local place that does it on the side and picked this up off a trade in at a Porsche dealer, then loved it so much he kept it and drove it for about a year. It was up for about 4 days before I drove it last Saturday and 2 other people had already come to look, so I pulled the trigger that Monday.

Last year 135is with only 46k on the clock. Le-mans (i think) blue with black interior and blue stitching. Its got a lot of options including Idrive and nav except the comfort access which wasn't a deal breaker. As long as it had the M-sport package and sport seats I was good. It also has what the dealer said was a "Dinan exhaust, intake, and stage 3 tune" but I don't think any of those are correct. I'm gonna get pictures of the exhaust tomorrow but it says Dinan nowhere on it, and the intake looks stock BMW to me. I can always send Dinan the VIN and see if it's got a tune registered to it from them. This thing is fast as hell but a Dinan stage 3 puts it at ~370hp and ~400 torque according to their website and I don't think its THAT ridiculously fast. Its also lowered about 1" on springs which I'm fine with, looks good and doesn't rub. More importantly it doesn't have the shit run-flats anymore.

This thing is an absolute rocket compared to what I'm used to and screams the whole time. Steering and ride feels amazing but I haven't got it out in the twisties yet. The sport seats carress my love-handles in all the right ways and the stereo is one of the better stock systems I've heard for a while. Off throttle/feathering it has tons of pops and burbles. Idk how I'm gonna drive this every day without keeping a spare set of pants with me.

Plan is keep it pretty much as-is until I get out of grad school, then we'll see. Ordering a tow-hook license plate frame since although I'm in NC for school, its still gonna be a VA title/reg. Hopefully will tint before it gets too hot here, and I'm looking for some affordable halo bulbs that get the whiter look compared to the yellowish they are now that won't throw any codes. I'm also looking into being able to code stuff like what Justin's done on his wagon but I'm not sure if my car is new enough for all that. It does have the TPMS light on since apparently these aren't the original wheels or they just didn't do the TPMS with the new tires and that can be coded out, along with closing windows with the fob since currently I can only open them with it, and a few other goodies.

Next up - Tilt Car Trailer - $7000
Posted by: davej - 04-17-2018, 04:57 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (6)

Same story, helping the same guy. Do you guys have any tips on where to advertise this? Would the racing crew be interested, or is that more enclosed trailers because enclosed?

Selling an Aluma Tilt Car Trailer Model 8218 Tilt with the upgraded  axles. Dimensions are 81" x 219"
This trailer has only been used 4 times for about 200 miles, so practically brand new and priced less than what I can find for used ones at a dealer with the upgraded axles. It's a great trailer, just turned out to be too long for what we need, we are getting a smaller version of the same one.

Asking $7000

More details on Aluma's website.

  New t-Shirt Design
Posted by: GTBrandon - 04-17-2018, 02:59 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (43)

So we want an updated design for t-shirts to wear around campus. I feel as if the current design is too bland to attract attention and have people interested and aware of our club. We worked with a fellow student designer to come up with this, and had it printed by a local shop in Harrisonburg. I want to get inputs from Alum and students on this design, what you might improve, change, or if you like the design as is. Open to all criticisms, but remember, I can't draw so any new ideas I would have to outsource unless an alum has some hidden artistic abilities.

  1973 Benz 450SL
Posted by: davej - 04-16-2018, 04:31 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (14)

I'm peppering this around the web, so might as well leave it here also....cough...Chan...Adam...cough

1973 Mercedes Benz 450SL
VIN: 107.044-12-009600
Mfg Date: 12/1972
Mileage: 107,482

I am helping a co-worker sell their 1973 450SL. The car is complete and would be a good platform for restoration, or just use the parts to finish another project. Expect body work for the rust spot in the hood above driver headlight and on either side of the rear passenger tire/wheel well.

Car has the smaller European bumpers before having to put the unsightly US bumpers on.
Tires are flat from sitting and should probably be replaced before driving due to age.

Car needs a new battery but I’m told it starts with a good one. Spots on the hood are just from dirt and will power wash away unless you want that barn-fresh patina.

I’m happy to try and answer any question you may have or get more photos if needed. Car does have a title.

Asking $1250 and it is available for pickup in Harrisonburg, VA 22801

Well for starters I am here in Harrisonburg VA, Have a 1985 Scottsdale truck that has a 327 vette engine and 350 turbo transmission. That truck is my pride and joy as a sweet ratrod muscle truck.  My other toy that just got running after 7 years of sitting is my 87 Monte Carlo SS.  Everything is rebuilt or new. It has a rebuilt 350 engine and transmission, with a blower and all performance parts. just waiting on hood to be cut for the blower and painted.
I run a small landscape business here in Harrisonburg.  Not much time for hobbies other than driving around and the occasional camping trip.

  Books? What Are Those?
Posted by: GTBrandon - 04-14-2018, 06:59 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (8)

So I’m curious, this is the first car where I’ve actually sat down and read some of the manual. Some for curiosity/boredom, some for diagnosing, but I’ve never found myself doing this is another car thanks to the internet and forums.

How many of you actually read your cars manuals versus look things up online and never even touch that bundle of papers in your glovebox?

Hey all, just making this so we can document some history. We brought it up in the chat it seems we've started to forget who was running the club when. Do me a favor and help me remember.

GroupMe - If You Can’t Beat Em, Join Em
Posted by: GTBrandon - 04-06-2018, 12:08 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (34)

Let me start by saying I think slowly but surely students are coming onto the forums and seeing how fun and informative they can be. But, they will always prefer the instant gratification of a constantly updated chat that they are already using for other groups at college. We are currently using GroupMe for the AluMMni and Student chat, so here’s why I’m posting this:

If you want to be in the chat (Which currently includes all recently graduated as well as DJ, Jake, Adam, Brian, David, Joey, Stephen, and Dave) then post on here and I’ll add you to it.

It’s a cool way to keep up with the club, be a part of a conversation with other Alum or current students when you’re bored at work, and a way to stay current for the upcoming workforce known as Millennials, Gen Z or whatever you call us now a days Wink

It breaks my heart, but I'm forced to find a new home for my beloved Australian Shepherd Sasha.   Reason because my 2 year old son developed a severe dog allergy out of nowhere recently (rash, lesions, face and limb swelling...the works)
She is 6, 50 lbs, and up to date on all shots.
The good:  She is a wonderful dog with tons of personality.
The catch:  You will let me come visit her occasionally.  Though I will probably bring alcoholic beverages.

If you are *seriously* interested, contact me, I have plenty more details, can bury you in pics, and am happy to answer your questions.   Email me at evan55 at gee mailz  if you would like to talk more
