After waffling over selling my gs500 and keeping the cash or buying another bike, another bike landed in my lap.
I got a link to a $1600 F650 from Dave one morning and emailed the guy immediately. As it so happened I sold my GS500 the day before for $1600...
Guy had a ton of interest from all the local dad bike enthusiasts, I only got it since I was the first guy to respond.
It's a 1999 F650 with 30k or so miles, lots of little farkles and upgrade bits included. Came with an entire binder full of the bikes full maintenance history, definitely not something you expect for $1600.
Didn't take very long before I had it up on some dirt roads, she takes jumps pretty well..
Went exploring and found a forest fire
Now to the project part- took the carbs out today to check if everything was still stock inside. I was putting them back together when I noticed that both diaphragms are torn in multiple spots. No idea how the bike ran this well, I had noticed a little slump in the mid range before though so maybe this is the problem.
While I had the needles out I bumped up the circlip to the next notch, gonna see if that helps the midrange as well. Maybe looking into some 140 jets up from the stock 132s
Since the bikes gonna be down for a while I decided to try my hand at making a skid plate, I started with this perfectly legal not stolen sign
First mockup on the bike after a lot of bending
Little bit of trimming to cut back on the chance of foot annihilation
Got the front bracket bolted on, need to drill the rest of the front mounting holes and do some final trimming.
I think I may leave a lot of the sides in tact, I sat on the bike and I can rest my feet on the skid plate, would be pretty nice for long rides
