  Young and Dumb
Posted by: GTBrandon - 07-22-2018, 11:05 AM - Forum: Motorcycles - Replies (12)

Well after about two months with the Shadow, I’m wanting something else. Dealing with a choppy, 30 year old, carbureted V-Twin engine can be cool, but doesn’t itch that scratch for me anymore. I rode Alex’s R6 on the Blue Ridge Parkway and I think that solidified my desire. So here’s where I’m torn:

I absolutely love the looks of super sports, the high end ludicrous speed, and full tuck position on them. BUT, I have a bad back and I’m not sure if riding one every day will irritate it to a point of needing to sell for the sake of my chiropractor bills.

I don’t love the looks of the 650’s I’ve seen, and not sure about the performance of them on the top end or at future track days. BUT, the riding position is way more comfortable going around down, although one I sat on didn’t feel like it was easy to really go full tuck which concerned me slightly.

So opinions on what y’all have done or would do? Anyone else deal with back issues (like legit spinal issues)? What path did you go down and did you regret one or the other? Help me out because as the title says, I’m young, dumb, and worst of all, an impulsive buyer Big Grin

Feel Good Story of The Day

One of the local radio stations near me does a segment every morning called Tell Me Something Good where they highlight positive news stories around the country. I love this segment and figured we can bring some positivity to MM as well. Who doesn't need some more positive things in their life these days?

Anyway, if you see a positive story post it here. I'll try and update with one per day.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/17/us/city-h...index.html

Quote:(CNN)Instead of shutting down a teen's hot dog stand after a complaint, the city helped him start a business.
Thirteen-year-old Jaequan Faulkner had been cooking hot dogs outside his home in North Minneapolis to raise money for new clothes, his family said. It's something he started doing in 2016, but this summer, he got more attention. When someone noticed the stand wasn't city sanctioned, he was forced to shut down.

In an age where black kids are being reported for selling water bottles or mowing the lawn, Jaequan was able to flip the trend of the dreaded "Permit Patty." When the city received the complaint a few weeks ago, the Minneapolis Department of Health started making calls to help him.
"When I realized what it was, I said, 'No, we're not going to just go and shut him down' like we would an unlicensed vendor," Minneapolis Environmental Health Director Dan Huff said. "We can help him get the permit. Let's make this a positive thing and help him become a business owner."

  FS: 2015 Highlander

The lease is about up on the car and I'm looking at picking up another manvan, hopefully this week. The highlander has been great but a minivan is just too good at what they do for the amount of tax deductions we have.

It's a 2015 with 45k or so miles. XLE AWD which is the mid trim for leather, nav, camera, etc.
Current payoff is just under $28k and any friends of MM can take it for that if they want.

It also once towed a pile of dung with a lighting rod for an antenna.

Sort of in the same vein as my Officer History post (http://forum.mmsports.org/showthread.php?tid=11686), I think it would be pretty neat to try to record who was in the club what years.

Let's post the year, the most one or two photos of the club together, and list as many people who were in the club as possible. I'll work on the years I know.

I am planning to install a performance shock absorbers on my 2010 Ford Mustang GT. Are Bilstein Shocks' highly recommended? A friend suggested it to me.

  Motorcycle Tread Life?

Riders of MM. In your "real world" applications what would you say is a fair estimate for mileage out of rear tire? I've had these Battlax BT-023s on the SV for 5k+ miles. They've seen daily commuting in DC for 3 months, 300+ mile trips on weekends, a trackday, and plenty of aggressive street riding.

I've notice for some time now the rear of the SV in turns (read: hard lean) feels "wiggly"? Tire pressure is always setup for manufacturer's spec, I've dumped the old shock and now have the ZX10r shock in the rear. I'm having a hard time distringuishing if it's me (riding position), road conditions, tires or a combo. I would say prior to Mayish the bike did not feel this way.

Is it possible due to the increased wear in the center of the tire from regular riding has produced a "ridge" which is where I feel the bike wiggling?

Time for a new tires? I'm thinking my next set will be more "sport" oriented.

Note: I don't feel the confidence to push the bike as hard I used to.

Last night, the cars at my dad's house (in a decent neighborhood where we've never locked the doors or cars) were gone through. They opened every compartment and removed most of the paperwork and things and they were laid out on seat. Didn't take any keys (for misc locks) and didn't take the old gps or iPod or any spare change (which was in the ashtray which I don't think they could find or my stereo stuff. Or anything as far as I can tell. Same story with my dad's car and he had a new gps I his and the keys were in the cup holder.

Talked to my boss who lives down the street and same thing happened to him and all his neighbors and they called the cops and apparently it happened to lots of houses last night. He had keys in one of his trucks and the only thing taken they can tell was a spare change cup from one of the cars.

So is it just kids or a random person looking for change and ignoring everything else that could get them in trouble with the cops. Cops basically told my boss this wasn't worth their time to follow up. Or are they taking something (information maybe) that people just aren't noticing and using at some point in the future? Thoughts?

Btw, same thing happened to my buddies cars that live 30 minutes from my dad in downtown Richmond a couple months ago.

  MSF Course

Harley-Davidson is offering their MSF Course to first responders for $99, so I signed up for it on the weekend of July 8th and 9th. Should be all I need to get a motorcycle license once I complete the course. Any pointers or thoughts for a first time rider taking the course?
