  Winchester Autocross - 11/6 GWS-MBCA
Posted by: EclipseTurbno93 - 11-02-2016, 08:25 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (21)

Mercedes-Benz Club of America is hosting their final autocross of the season. It will be this Sunday in Winchester, VA at James Wood High School, just an hour north of Harrisonburg. Cost for non-members is $35 and we should be looking at between 6-8 runs per driver.

Here is a link to the event:

I will be there, I know Jake will be bringing his new whip, Ryan Allen is coming whether he realizes it or not yet. Come on out!

Hey guys I'm Christian Chenault, I am a new MM member this year. I drive a 2005 Hyundai Tiburon/Tuscani GT. I don't race her, she's just for looks. She's my daily driver so I can't dog her on the track. A little about me, I'm a junior computer science major at JMU.

Exterior mods that have been done include: body kit, wheels, badge kit, RGB halo headlights, exhaust system (idk what kind, was on it when I bought it), Injen air intake.
Interior mods that have been done include: LED lights, badge kit, aftermarket radio
Radio mods include: Kenwood DDX672BH, Alpine SPR-60c speakers, Kicker KS 6.5" speakers, 2 Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-10 subwoofers.

  JMU Lunch/Dinner November 10?
Posted by: V1GiLaNtE - 11-02-2016, 09:58 AM - Forum: Campus Events - Replies (21)

Rex/Current students/anybody,

I'll be at JMU Thursday, November 10th presenting for CIS 434 on behalf of Deloitte. I'm planning on getting onto campus around lunch time.

Who wants to grab lunch/dinner/beers?

  High value E46 parts?
Posted by: lxpeery - 11-01-2016, 02:42 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (12)

Due to "complications" with the Virginia DMV, I have a 2004 325i that I can't legally sell as a whole car. As such, it's being parted out. I'm pretty good about knowing part values, but BMW is far from my specialty.

Is there anything on the car that is unreasonably valuable? I don't want to throw away some piece of interior plastic or the like if it's something that would actually be worth selling, but given my lack of experience with BMW parts, I'm wasting a lot of time and space researching every little part that I pull off. Shit like the cabin air filter housing seems like the kind of thing that would be worthless, but they sell all day long on eBay for $50.

Sigh... the death of a perfectly good E46 Sad

  WTB: 05/06 SV650

Many of you are pretty well connected in the bike world and so I'm hoping to enlist your help.

Looking to pickup a 05/06 Suzuki SV650 with max budget of $3500. Not the fairing "S" version, but the naked model. I'm doing my own searching via CL/ebay/etc, but I know some of you guys have friends who are bike hoarders.

Happy to get you a 6er of your favorite craft beer as token of my appreciation.

The bad - Needs a new Cat, and an airbag harness. Just had the airbag replaced from the recall. A couple of minor chips in the paint, a scratch on the passenger front wing, a very small dent in the passenger rear door and a knob missing from the air speed switch on the interior but otherwise in great condition, small chip in the on the driver's side door.

The good - Only 69K on the clock, interior and exterior nice and clean, comfortably seats four (I am 6ft 2in and can sit behind the driver's seat) rotary engine revs to 10K RPM, great fun to drive RWD car! 4 door (suicide rear), low insurance because it's not classified as a 2 door coupe. The aluminum body doesn't rust.

I believe only 1,500 of this color were made, and comes with a boxed matching matchbox car that Mazda sent to the owners.

Make me an offer. Looking for around $4k.

  E46 Repairs, BTDT opinions?
Posted by: PDenbigh - 10-27-2016, 01:38 PM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (11)

MM,

I have a E46 330Ci (5 spd) with 240k on the odo. Been a great car as long as I've kept up with the usual stuff. I'm due for another round of wrenching, and I want your opinion on two things:

1. Should I just pull the engine out and do this stuff at once? (I have the space, tools (Edit: including a lift) and know-how already) and,
2. What else should I do while I'm already shoulders deep?

On the list:
-oil pan gasket
-motor mounts
-PCV system
-O2 Sensors (throwing codes like woah)
-Power steering lines
-Clutch possibly, if I pull the engine

Already complete:
-Cooling system top-to-bottom
-All other oil gaskets that get hard and spew
-Intake boots, idle air flapper valve thing, coilpacks and plugs, valve cover gasket, Vanos rebuilt

Looking at the oil pan and the PCV it just seems like a whole lot of work to change, and would be an equal amount of work or less to just pull the engine/transmission as a unit. I could then clean it all up and do the various repairs and inspections, and slide it back in fresh and clean.

I'm not against pulling it and accidentally reinstalling a M3 engine either, but from what I've seen on the foremz yo! this seems like an unnecessarily expensive project.

Opinions appreciated. Thanks!

Peter

New Tires on the Explorer Sport
Posted by: Feersty - 10-26-2016, 11:22 AM - Forum: Appearance/Cosmetic - Replies (10)

Hello again MM!

It's been a while since I have posted. I put on some new tires on the 2014 Explorer Sport I got back in February 2016. The stock ones were 255/50R20 Hankook Optimo H426. Picked up a set of Nitto NT420S 265/50R20 for $144.99 a tire at Discount Tire. A great thing they did was price match for me, the price at TireBuyer.com

Stockers had about 29,000 miles and were in the yellow in terms of treadwear. I just love the tread design.

Final NASA Events - Dominion Oct 29/30, Summit Nov 12/13
Posted by: Jake - 10-25-2016, 03:55 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (16)

Roll call and open invite for the final two NASA track weekends of the year!

Dominion Raceway - October 29/30
That's this coming weekend. Yes, Halloween weekend. Double points for racers. Will be a full weekend of HPDE, Hyperdrive, Time Trial and W2W racing.

NASA at Dominion - Facebook Event

Summit Point - November 12/13
Coming up quickly! No W2W racing which means more track time for the HPDE and TT groups! This event is always a lot of fun and more laid-back compared to the rest of the season.

Come up Saturday and get some rides in the pace car or with instructors at speed. Stick around for the Time Trial awards party, featuring cold frosty beverages and BBQ.

NASA Fall Finale at Summit - Facebook Event

Come up Sunday, donate a minimum of $20 and drive your car on track in honor of Cale Kastanek, #57. Cale was a TT competitor and instructor who we lost in 2008. The local S2000 group helps NASA-MA put on a touring laps session the Sunday of Fall Finale every year. Any vehicle with seat belts is welcome on track. These laps will be behind the pace car, with no passing allowed. As your pace car driver, I can promise that we'll get up to a reasonable but not crazy speed (65ish?) and you'll get 20 minutes of lapping, give or take. It's a very touching tribute every year.

Touring Laps for Cale - Facebook Event

Additionally - Sunday marks the first Refrigerator Bowl of the winter 2016/2017 season! Sign up now and get your car on both the Jefferson and Shenandoah circuits at Summit Point for what is, more or less, a giant autocross using the track. Cars go one at a time in an autocross format, the difference being you are on a real track with higher speeds, and you don't have to work the course. A few MMers have done these last year and we all had a blast.

  Turducken 2016?
Posted by: Senor_Taylor - 10-25-2016, 02:59 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (54)

Hey all, November approaches.

We have a meeting November 2nd which may be the last one before Turducken (if there is one this year). I was just wondering if anyone has any info; RJ? I know DJ mentioned having it at his place, I'm not sure if that has changed because of recent events, but that may be kind of a hike.

Anyway, any information would be greatly appreciated so we can try to get as many students out as possible.

November 19-26 is JMU's thanksgiving break.

NASA MA Fall Finale is November 12-13.
