10/9 Daytrip to WDCR RX Event?
Posted by: V1GiLaNtE - 10-07-2016, 12:25 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (2)

So I've always been interested in RallyCross and wanted to go see what it's all about. It looks like the WDCR RallyCross is having an event this Sunday (10/9) in Catlet, VA which is about an hour south of Fairfax. I was thinking of heading down there mid-morning to just check it out for a few hours.

Anyone interested in a little road trip?

I'm in for instructing. I assume the other regulars will be there?

So who else is going? Any students coming that can bring the MM stickers?

Pick the best ‘super car’ you can buy for 25k or under. Super car can be fast or exotic type car. 1 car per person. Let's try to make it more than 2 pages before anyone argues about Jeff choosing a stick-shift turbo dodge caravan.

So to keep the urge to set the car on fire at bay, I figured making a build thread here to remind me how far I've come. It's a 1973 Dodge Dart Sport I bought like 12 years ago when I turned 16. It was $800 and hardly ran but I thought it was pretty cool at the time. Drum brakes all around, I'm pretty sure I was only running 4 cylinders and a few shot bushings in the front end made for quite a few interesting experiences in my teens. The final nail in coffin for this thing after I bought my Challenger was a pinhole leak in my power steering line that left me stranded in the Outerbanks shortly after I graduated college. It sat in my parent's backyard for like 2-3 years before I decided I either needed to put it down or fix it up.

The original goal was to just swap over a V8 and disc brakes from a 74 donor car I bought. Was really just looking to do something that didn't involve bar tabs and/or failed relationships. The more I dove into this car and looked at parts/other projects, the more I wanted to do.

Here's some history to start:

Shortly after I first bought it:

The motor crapped out on me the next summer. I melted a rod bearing somehow so we did a total rebuild.

Went to basic and when I came back I sent it off for body work and paint:

Drove it off and on during college but it mostly sat once I got my super sweet 91 S10.

  Help me commit insurance fraud

Just kidding.

I left the white Land Rover in a field over the summer while I was gone. It was running fine when I parked it. Now that I'm back I was driving it back home (2 hour drive) and it died about 1/2 way there. Unsure of what went on I opened the hood. Rodents chewed one spark plug and two pig tails.

Okay, easy fix. I soldered new pigtails on, order a new plug wire set and being proactive ordered 8 new spark plugs. Replace everything and still not getting anything. It starts but won't turn over. Here's a video that sounds exactly like it.

Any suggestions besides running it into a river? The PO replaced the fuel pump so I'm having trouble believing that would be the problem again (I know how shitty they are but damn).

I bought a moped.

What I know:
2003 Kinetic TFR50.
It has an engine.
It has a new clutch.
It has a slightly bent rear rim.
It needs a new ignition since the guy lost the keys.
It has pedals, they are not aligned.
It has brakes that seem to work.
It's adorable, and I love it.

Complete impulse buy, I'm kind of stoked about it though. Eventually I'm going to need a helmet so if anyone with a big head like me is selling their old one, let me know!

Hi my name is Chris Castor. I'm not a student at JMU but I joined anyways. I'm a software developer but that's not important and boring. I'm driving a completely stock 2011 Challenger R/T so obviously I went through my mid-life crisis a little earlier than most. I'm also building a 1973 Dodge Dart Sport although there isn't much 1973 left on it. It has a 318 with the only stock parts being the block and crank. A 904 built by John Cope with a manual valve body so it won't be a complete drag to have an auto again hopefully. I went with a Ford 8.8 rear end because the swap was easy as hell and much cheaper than anything I found. I also don't like passing up opportunities to piss off thousands of purists when i have the chance.

I have just about everything needed to put it back together after working on it for 3 years, I just need the time and help to get it together. Once it's running I want to race the shit out of it. Drifting, drag, autocross I want to do it all so that's mostly why I joined. Here's some pics:

Tradition states a FS thread must be made for all MM cars, so here it is. Customary MM pricing or finder fee is also available.

  Model Trains Anyone?
Posted by: Apoc - 09-21-2016, 03:14 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (7)

I had a generic set when I was growing up that my family always put under the Christmas tree. I also had my dad's original Lionel trains that I traded in high school... well, let's just say I regret that act to this day. Now that I have a kid, I'm thinking I want to get into it. I can't see myself being one of those guys, but I wouldn't mind a really nice set we set up from to time... especially around the holidays.

Anyone else? I feel like is something a few of you know a lot about and you haven't had a chance to talk trains unail that one time it got you laid.

WTB: Miata Test pipe or Cat
Posted by: Senor_Taylor - 09-20-2016, 09:04 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (3)

Hey all! My catback gets here tomorrow, and my cat is welded in the rear, so I can't bolt it to my catback, so I need a test pipe or a cat with flanges on it. Anyone have one close to JMU?
