Please use jack stands.

Really sad news today, as a Miata.net member has passed away after his car fell from a scissor jack onto him. His wife found him.
Most people are making a point about scissor jacks, but I feel the need to point out that NO jack is acceptable to leave your car on. Jack stands are a must, and it frightens me how often I see people get under a car while on jacks, or on jack stands that are on a soft or uneven surface. Even when using jack stands, have the jack under another part of the car in case the stands fail, and always always always let someone know when you're under the car and get them to check on you every 30 minutes or so.

Quote:So, a few weeks ago I got a hold from an administrator in a different Miata forum, that knew that Garret and I were friends.
This administrator, had received an email stating that Soledad had passed away.
I posted a thread in the Mid Atlantic sub-forum here @ M.Net, inquiring Soledad's status. Forum member Kevin Spann (kevinspann), PM stating that Garret in fact had passed away.
This past weekend, I received a PM from forum member Jerry (bassman1) and he gave me his phone number to contact him, as he was a VERY close friend of Garret's.
Evidently, in a completely out of character move, Garret, lifted his '90 silver NA (Soledad), with scissor jacks, to install a wideband. Though he had a real floor jack and jackstands, Gar decided to use the scissors to lift the car.
At some point, the car fell on him, and Garret was found dead by his wife.
I'm in tears as I type this. Please, use proper jacking methods to work on your car. Garret was in his mid 30's and had a lot to live for.
I miss my friend.

So now if Porsche has finally acquiesced to the reality that the 911 would be faster if it were mid-engined, will they take the next step and actually change the street car? Before this car I would've thought, 'no way in hell' but after this, and the rumor that the 960 (mid-engine flat-8 quad turbo Ferrari Fighter) is cancelled, I'm not so sure.
I feel like if the 911 went MR and they lost the rear seats that there'd be many Porschephiles howling in protest, then putting down a deposit at their dealer. Personally I would buy a GT3 either way, but if it goes MR all the better. I wouldn't be getting back seats either way.

I'm sure you've seen or heard the advice that you're supposed to stop filling when the pump clicks off and not squeeze in that extra half gallon. But I've been doing that for 20+ years in 20+ cars and I've never had a problem.
But it causes damage to the evaporation system / charcoal canister, kills all the local wildlife and makes the engine run poorly!
.... Really? Are you sure? :dunno:

Come on down to Taylor's house for Pizza and Beer and TopGear... I mean, The Grand Tour! (Top Gear rhymes much better with Beer).
We will have Pizza, but the beer (or your beverage of choice) is yours to bring. Visitor parking fills fast so come early as we'll start watching at 7. That way you can go have some fun afterwards. CarPooling is suggested!
I will have Hoodies and Hats for all who ordered, so come and pick them up!
Of course no Pizza for people who didn't pay dues.

Hey everyone, I don't have a picture of it, but we found one E46 mirror or mirror cover in the pile of MM things when we took inventory early this year. Does anyone have any idea whose it is? I believe it is black. Still in the plastic.

It's time. I'm moving and have lots of debt and don't want to take it with me.
Once, it was a streetbike I rode everyday. Then, it was a streetfighter I rode sometimes. After that, it did a lot of sitting. For the last year, it's been in my living room and I've taken a few hours here and there to get it close to running again. It starts with a dash of aerosol and will rev up, but doesn't hold an idle. I've got six quarts of the best carb cleaner you can get that will go with it. Have fun. Technically, everything you need to make it a running [very unapologetic looking] streetbike again is included. But things like the gas tank were put away wet and now are. Well. Not so great. There aren't any plastics. But the levers are brand new CRG units.
Clean. Title. In. Hand. That might be the most valuable thing to it.
What you do get is a bike that with some work you could ride and not every worry about. Drop it, it doesn't matter. Probably won't break, either, because it's a Honda. And you get a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot of spares. Even a spare set of front forks. And a box of parts, many still in OEM Honda sealed bags. Things like jet kits and master cylinder rebuild kits and pads and valve shims and seals and assorted special bolts and cables and switchgear and most of a wiring harness and so forth.
$800. It's in Reston, VA (20191) and you can have an Ommegang extra big that I took from RJ's wedding reception. Oh. And it has a lot of miles. I don't really know how many. I'll leave it blank on the title and you can make it up. asteele2 at gmail if you don't like forums.

Vineyards on the way and around Harrisonburg

Girlfriend's birthday is coming up and was thinking it might be nice to take her to some vineyards. A little day trip. We'd be leaving from richmond and heading west towards harrisonburg. I'd like to have lunch in harrisonburg I think so maybe one stop on the way up. Maybe hit up crosskeys while we're up there cause I know she likes that one.
But looking for other suggestions. Maybe looking to hit 3 or 4 total for the day. Might mix it up and do bold rock or blue toad instead of one vineyard. Don't know. Guess anything that's good along the way up. Maybe cville or around Afton. And then anything near harrisonburg. I know bluestone vineyards is down in Bridgewater but I've never been so maybe if someone suggests it. Any of you classy people have some ideas?

1994 Miata R package

Since I've gotten a couple PM's regarding any more cheap Miata's I have, here you go.....
1994 Laguna Blue R package (one of 140 made) that needs a little love and I'm never going to get around to it. 122k. Rust free. R package included Bilsteins shocks, heavy-duty rear springs, heavier sway bars), rear spoiler, front air dam, rear skirt, alloy wheels, Torsen limited slip differential, manual steering and roll up windows. It was the lightest '94 Miata you could buy. The only option this car has is AC (which works). New clutch, timing belt, water pump less than 20k miles ago. PO reupholstered the interior and recovered the seats with leather.
The Bad:
-The car has been sitting for a while and has some impressive HLA tick
-Body isn't perfect, it has some dings, paint scrapes, etc......
-Currently has an issue on the title with the mileage not being accurate. This is from a Carfax mistake where the mileage was recorded incorrectly (or the original owner put several thousand miles on the car during 1 day....) during a service and the PO of this car (who i bought it from) freaked out and signed the title over to me that way. I am working with the DMV to see if I can resolve it, but who knows......
$2500
