The bad - Needs a new Cat, and an airbag harness. Just had the airbag replaced from the recall. A couple of minor chips in the paint, a scratch on the passenger front wing, a very small dent in the passenger rear door and a knob missing from the air speed switch on the interior but otherwise in great condition, small chip in the on the driver's side door.

The good - Only 69K on the clock, interior and exterior nice and clean, comfortably seats four (I am 6ft 2in and can sit behind the driver's seat) rotary engine revs to 10K RPM, great fun to drive RWD car! 4 door (suicide rear), low insurance because it's not classified as a 2 door coupe. The aluminum body doesn't rust.

I believe only 1,500 of this color were made, and comes with a boxed matching matchbox car that Mazda sent to the owners.

Make me an offer. Looking for around $4k.

Spare change, two M&M bags, one half eaten kitkat and a 6 pack of PBR? Might be able to throw in a seized scissor jack to sweeten the deal too.

I didn't know they were aluminum! Must be super light. Good luck with sale!

Man, these cars shoulda been so good.

I don't think I've ever had more fun on an autocross than wringing the neck of a RX-8. The sound, the engine just climbing to the sky,the chassis begging you to go harder daddy harder pull my hair yesssssssssssss. It's a good time.

They needed either 100 more horsepower or 15 more miles per gallonm, so no RX-8 for Rexy. Cry However, for a student, this is a no brainer. One of you shitheads should buy this for sure. So much fun.

I have been saying for a long time that an RX-8 with the MazdaSpeed3 motor stuck in it would be a damn near perfect car.

Has the motor on this one been replaced by Mazda under the engine recall?

Edit... if it needs a new Cat... probably not, and that is indicative of a much larger issue.

Or this ^^

isn't this about due for a new motor? i'm fairly confident i don't say this in jest. so sad, mazda. not sure what rex is smoking - a rotary is a horrid idea for anyone, let alone a student.

Re: 2004 Mazda RX-8 69K miles manual 6 speed - ViPER1313 - 10-28-2016

I would rock a 2009-2011 R3 all day long, gas mileage be damned. A 70k mile 2004 with no history of engine replacement and a clogged cat... :/

Well, my bad for suggesting he post this here. Sorry James.

Not trying to shit on James, but when you post a car to a message board with a known history of early year engine failures (to the point that Mazda had to extend the warranty of the motor), and symptoms that are indicative of said failure (worn seals causing high oil consumption which clogs the catalytic converter, which once clogged can cause further damage) and said person does not disclose this, expect someone to ask. There hasn't been a response; if the engine was already replaced, great. If not, I would spend $150 at a Mazda dealer to get a compression test (you can't use a standard gauge on a rotary) before purchasing this.

I understand that. He isn't reaponsding presumably because he never planned to post here. I told him to. Big Grin

Plus. This group? You didn't really expect constructive conversation, did you?

I feel the questions are constructive. Any person in MM about to spend 4000 dollars on a car should know the good and the bad. This isn't Craigslist - I feel like if you sell shit here you need to tell the good and the bad like you are selling to a best friend (because a lot of people here are.)

Re: 2004 Mazda RX-8 69K miles manual 6 speed - Ginger - 10-30-2016

It was a bit tongue in cheek. He was disappointed things went off the rails a little, but that's kind of to be expected here.
