  What CUV/SUV/4x4 should I buy?
Posted by: Goodspeed - 08-30-2017, 11:56 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (47)

Further ignoring Justin’s consolidation thread (wuv you boo <3)

Cliffs:
Looking for a CUV/SUV/4x4 that is:
- ~2012+ model year
- Comfortable
- Quiet
- Seats 4
- ~25+ mpg highway preferable
- Has electronics/infotainment/buttons etc. that are intuitive and easy to live with (my retired parents will likely borrow this for trips)
- Won’t be in the dealer all the time for maintenance, CELs and so on
- Within ~$15-20k budget, but open to spending more

Not cliffs:

I’m looking for a new/ish vehicle in a segment that I admittedly know very little about - something in the CUV/SUV/4x4-AWD category. I’m not moving on from the IS, for now, but have often missed the utility and go-anywhereness of my old Jeep XJ. I’ve been and am looking to do more outdoors stuff, so a DD-able vehicle that can put up with at least some of the rough-stuff to get me places has been on my radar for a while.

And as mentioned, my parent’s will probably want to borrow it from time to time to do similar things (either longer-haul trips where a bigger vehicle is appreciated or outdoors excursions) now that they’re retired. That’s partially why I’m keeping the IS around, and will either do more involved project-car stuff with it, or replace it with a recent 5.0 Mustang or something.

Cliffs again: I don’t actually know if crossovers suck or not as I haven’t really driven any, I don’t know if SUV’s are even relevant anymore, I’m wondering if quad-cab trucks are where it’s at given Jake’s success w/ his F150 and Lee's happiness w/ his Colorado, and I haven’t been paying attention to the whole 4x4/AWD technology race since neanderthals bashed the first XJ’s into existence out of stone.

What say you MM? What should I go test drive?

BNIB Assorted OEM Trans/Driveline parts
ask for prices or parts your want.
these were in prep for a clutch replacement, some trans work to fix a leak and replace a known-to-wear bearing, and some updating to better OEM parts for increased reliability.
clockwise from top:
• axle roll pins
• clutch release lever
• clutch lever pivot ball
• input shaft needle bearing
• input shaft main bearing
• input shaft support bearing
• input shaft seal bearing
ignore the red bearing and throw out bearing, they belong with the clutch kit.

OEM WRX intake duct
fits any impreza from 2002 up to 2007
excellent upgrade for N/A RS.  logging showed a significant drop in intake temps at speed, up to 40 degrees in cooler weather.  also provided a true ram air effect at highway speeds.  plug and play fitment with the standard snorkel removed.  includes mounting screws and a home-made gasket that seals it to the fender opening.  never worry about hydrolock and keep your stock resonator so the engine runs properly at low rpm.
$15.00

Drawtite 24710 Sportframe Class 1 hitch not gonna ship this heavy beast.  pick up in Augusta GA or I can drop off in Roanoke VA this fall
1-1/4" receiver

comes with 5 of the required 6 mounting bolts - your chassis should have the bolts already screwed into the chassis though.  great for platform style bike racks, which is what i used this for.
NO rust, just red dust, thanks GA

  No Longer FS: 2008 E90 M3
Posted by: turboneticsSS - 08-25-2017, 09:39 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (9)

ok so here is my craigslist ad below, honestly I don't go on the forums all that much, not intentionally I just almost forget then every so often i remember, get excited, then forget again, so if you're interested find someone in the club who knows me and shoot me a text. Car is in Alexandria VA. Anyways, as the ad says I want to focus on the lotus, something cool is coming once the m3 sells, and get a daily driver that doesnt have a hefty insurance bill and is a little better on gas. I have it listed on craigslist for 23,000, the least Ill take is $21,500 and of course the least Ill take is the price Ill give to an MM'er, thats the cheapest price for an E90 dual clutch within like 1000 miles that Ive found apart from one on craigslist that has a little over 10k more miles so I believe my bottom dollar is more than fair.

Up for sale is my Jerez black 2008 BMW M3 4 door with fox red interior(has 60/40 folding rear seats), and a 7 speed dual clutch transmission. This has been the best all around car I've owned but I don't like the insurance bill for 2 sports cars and I want to get something cheaper so I can focus on building my elise. I bought the car from plano porsche in Plano, TX where its spent most of its life. I drove all the way back to here from TX (18 hours) without a single problem. The bearings were done at 100k miles with BE bearings and new OEM bearing bolts and the oil was changed after 2000 miles for break in purposes with 10w60. The only modifications are a muffler and resonator delete (I have the oem parts) and One Eighty customized headlights which are customized OEM headlights with black housings and LED halos. The car is in great shape both inside and out, the front bumper is the only part that could use some attention because of the highway miles its seen. I will post pictures this weekend when I get a chance to get it all cleaned up.

  2006 BMW Z4 si coupe
Posted by: Scott - 08-24-2017, 10:22 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (3)

My brother is selling his Z4 coupe. I will pass his contact information on to anyone interested. Stolen from his posting:

I am selling my 2006 BMW Z4 coupe. I have owned this car since it had roughly 40k miles and used it to commute between Waynesboro and Charlottesville. Less than 1k of these were produced with a manual during their three year production run, and it had been an excellent daily.

The exterior is in excellent condition with the exception of a small scrape on the lower part of the front bumper and some rash on the wheels, both from the prior owner. I added sports seats to the car roughly 30k miles ago, they were originally tan but were dyed black and could probably use a touch up as well as new thigh support handles, there are no rips in the leather and the memory/heaters work well.

$13,500

I also have a second set of wheels with winter tires that I will include for an additional $500

Silver/Black leather, brushed aluminum trim
6-Speed Manual
Sport Seats
Premium Package
Sport Package
Clear Bra
Heated/Electric Seats with Memory
B-Xenon Headlights
Bluetooth
Auxiliary Port
ZHP Shift Knob (stock is included)
3 owners, garaged
clean carfax

I've taken down my projector and have this 52x92 screen that I hate to take apart if anyone wants it. It's just fabric on a wood frame, could be painted on the edges to look nice, fabric is in good shape.

  New Battery cooked wiring
Posted by: HAULN-SS - 08-20-2017, 07:37 PM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (4)

I was trying to get my SS started today, to pull it out for a wash. Got in the car, and it was completely dead..no lights no nothing.

Hooked up the charger, put it on 75A, got in the car to turn the ignition, and got a rapid fire "click click click click." Internet tells me this is a bad connection possibly from battery to starter, causing an (internal?) starter relay to clock back and forth because its not getting enough juice.

So I clean the terminals, hook the charger back up - same result.

At this point i test the battery, and see it's making 11.x volts. I decided maybe it was too dead to even be jumped. Had a marine battery sitting around with LESS Amps/CCA. Had the negative side hooked up, and went to the put the positive side on, and the lead going from my positive cable to the alternator cooked and burned in two.

What are the odds the rest of my electrical is cooked? And any ideas why this happened? I guess something completed a circuit in the whole thing?

Help Me Buy A Car Thread v.ScottyB: WITNESS ME BROTHERS
Posted by: ScottyB - 08-17-2017, 12:22 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (341)

alright you filthy animals. this is going to go to hell in a handbasket so here's the rules:

EDIT $16k ceiling, don't want a payment
EDIT under 50k miles preferred
• max 10 years old
• must have side airbags f/r and a history of not murdering people because the ignition shit itself
• 4 doors or more
• nothing from farther north than PA
• no swapped/rebuilt/project BS
• no spinning dorito motors
• no private sellers that can't spell or talk in complete sentences, or dealers with names like Big Bill Hell's Challenge Pissing Thunderdrome
• will view any German options with a completely irrational level of distrust and anxiety on an emotional level
• MANUEL TRANS ONLY i'll drive an auto when i'm old and back to pooping my pants again
• NO silver, NO grey. can't take it anymore. eye burning colors preferred.

can move a little on some things but not on the trans, safety, color, or doors.

this is going to be a daily 99% of the time and rallycrossed maybe 4 times a year. it needs to be decently comfortable for 2 adults and a 4 year old on long highway trips, good A/C, good seats, pulling 30mpg without too much trouble. has to be able to dance in the turns when need be. not interested in a continual fixer-upper, if i'm touching the car for anything outside of basic routine maintenance i want it to be because i'm putting fun go-fast things on it and not hating myself, AKA: i don't want to be replacing worn out weatherstripping, rod bearings, fixing a hackjob aftermarket alarm, ripping the dash out for a new heater core, watching the plastic disintegrate around the interior, etc

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

here's what i have so far:

2009-2011 Civic Si
[Image: 2011-honda-civic-si-sedan-photo-386559-s-1280x782.jpg]
not gonna lie, this is what i'm probably getting. i drove a '99 Si years ago and it remains the highest fun per dollar car i've ever been in. visceral and wanted to be hooned.
bueno
kickass N/A drivetrain + helical LSD
"lightweight"
good back seat room + fold down backseats
great seats up front
excellent aftermarket
simple, reliable
VTEC makes my giblets dance
truly the last of the golden era 8k RPM screamers for Regular Joes. after this MY they bumped displacement and dropped the redline
no bueno
will this get jacked the first time i take it to applebees or something
not a pretty face (but i like subarus so i could be tasteless)
interior looks like a spaceship had rough unconsensual sex with an arcade game
FWD
mcstruts
insurance? haven't checked.

2009-2012 Golf GTI (is that the mk6?)
always liked these. you guys keep buying them and most of you are functional adults so i have to assume there's a reason for this happening
bueno
BOOOOST
pretty much invented hot hatchness
can't argue with the interior
hatch space
just pretty to look at
big aftermarket
i know it would kill on long distance drives
no bueno
am i seriously going to have to chip the carbon out of the intake with a screwdriver every 30k miles?
E-LSD right?
FWD
mcstruts
its German so its guaranteed something, somewhere, is assembled to be as irritating as possible
CELs erryday

2005-2006 ZHP (already breaking my age rule here we go)
this strikes me as the best of the E46-for-normies
bueno
so pretty want to touch
good chassis, good power
can't argue with the interior
nice place to kill miles
seems like problems are at least a known quantity
solid aftermarket of course
RWD OMG SO PURE
no bueno
i can't find anything without a billion miles on it
rear side airbags were optional, i wonder if that's hard to find
seriously how fragile is this thing? chassis tearing out, disposable cooling system, CELs, do these throw the nut off the oil pump too?
is a 330i a better starting point?
its old now, i assume every example has issues of some kind
will BMW people try to curb stomp me if i rallyx this?

unless one of you can find me some kind of unicorn deal, no subarus, sorry. the ones i want don't seem to exist in my price and mileage requirements, and i don't trust 90% of the owners to know WTF they're doing enough to buy from them anyway. i did the scoob thing for 10 years, i guess its time for a break. plus, i'll go back someday when those dingalings figure out how to make a modern WRX wagon again.

FF: B&N Nook Color model BNRV200, free for rooting?
Posted by: BLINGMW - 08-16-2017, 04:09 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (1)

I have one of these sitting around, in good shape. Charger plug wire is frayed but still works, or you could use another phone charger. I spent 2 hours trying to root it, bricked it, now it's back with factory reset and I'm done fooling with it. Anyone want it? :dunno:

WTB: Trailer Hitch Bike Rack to hold the MMoped
Posted by: Senor_Taylor - 08-14-2017, 01:11 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (7)

Does anyone have a trailer hitch bike rack? I need to get the MMoped to the track, but I don't want to lay it over inside the 4Runner and have it leak premix everywhere.
