Hey my name's Charles, live in Sterling Virginia. I'm a freshman majoring in CIS currently.
I've been obsessed with cars ever since my friend introduced me to the car culture. I didn't realize this club was here till recently so I didn't bother bringing my car, but I'm so excited to finally have a place with people like me who love cars and I can continue to share my passion and meet a whole new group of people just like me. Like I said I currently have a 2015 Golf TSI completely stock, but I'm looking into buying a 2000-2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 hopefully by next year.

Hey all, after this weekend at Summit, I know I'm ready to move on and get something with a roof. I'll always be a Miata guy and I hope to be in another one soon (Just not as my primary or secondary vehicle). I'm listing it high because I'm in no rush at all to sell. If someone in MM is interested, a special price can be arranged for sure. I want this to go to a good home.
I'm going to just copy/paste the CL ad since I know none of you will buy it.
Hello, for sale is my 95 M Edition Miata (Only 3500 Produced). I'm selling because I want a car to track and I'm too tall to daily this with a rollbar. It's been my favorite car I've ever owned and I hope to own another 95 M one day. The 95M is special because it has a one year only color called Merlot Mica (yes, like the wine), is the only miata to ever have seats with adjustable headrests, and has the ultra desirable 15 inch BBS Wheels with all 4 center caps along with the other special features of M Edition Miatas
116,XXX
Good:
- Has every option offered on NA Miatas ever (except for the alarm on the 96 M Edition) ABS, AC, Power Steering, Cruise Control, Power windows, Power Mirrors, etc
Done within last 15,000 miles:
- Tires (Dunlop Direzza Dz102 less than 5000 miles)
- Water pump, timing belt, CAS O ring, cam seals, crank seal, spark plugs, wires, brake pads and rotors, power antenna, fuel filter, shifter rebuild
- All new fluids (Coolant, transmission, rear diff)
- Comes with OEM Hardtop painted white
- Replaced leather wrapped steering wheel, Nardi Shift knob and handbrake lever (Not in all pictures)
- After market headunit with upgraded speakers
- Magnaflow High Flow Catalytic Converter and Cobalt Stainless Steel Catback Exhaust
Bad:
- Idles high when outside temperature is very cold (less than 50 degrees)
- Leaks/Burns oil very slowly (No smoke, and never drips anywhere, just enough to have to add some between changes)
- Soft top window was recently cut
- No rust except behind driver front wheel, easily fixed with a new fender (Not the usual rear rocker rust that is expensive to deal with)
- Discoloration on lower part of bumper in the front
Pictures of the car are in my thread. Asking $4500 on CL, less for y'all. Make an offer.

So after selling my restored/cafe racer'ed CB750 about 4 years ago, I've been loosely on the lookout for another CB350 - I owned two of them back when we had the motorcycle factory garage in Falls church, along with 3 CB400's, 2 CB750's and various others - not all at the same time mind, but they passed through. Problem is the cafe racer craze had shot prices through the roof, I gave up when I couldnt buy a non-running motorcycle for under $2000. So I wait.
This came up for sale on RRAX for a very fair price, and the seller was awesome to make the sale easy - I booked a van transport on uship to get the bike here from PA, and it was so nice, cheaper than renting a van and burning a day going to get it. The bike also came with some new parts that will make the bike nicer to live with like new roundslide carbs and electronic ignition. The bike is partially disassembled, with most everything it needs to go back together coming with the bike in 2 giant bins.
First goal is to get the bike running and riding again. I'll be going through everything and making sure that its safe & reliable, I know that I'll need new cables, the inside of the tank stripped, and I need to make sure things like the swingarm bushing, head bearings, tires, and so on are in good shape.
Down the line, I have grand plans of stripping it and rebuilding it like I did my last CB750 -

More photos here - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.photodromo.com/Galleries/Motorsports/CB750ForSale/">http://www.photodromo.com/Galleries/Mot ... 50ForSale/</a><!-- m -->
I've had this page bookmarked for years, as inspiration for another CB350 project - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://niskygarage.logical.net/CB350/week19.html">http://niskygarage.logical.net/CB350/week19.html</a><!-- m -->

![[Image: 0022.JPG]](http://niskygarage.logical.net/CB350/images/week19/0022.JPG)
And, a guy in Richmond started his own business fabricating & selling parts for old motorcycles to allow them to use more modern parts like forks, shocks, lights, etc - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://cognitomoto.com/">https://cognitomoto.com/</a><!-- m --> - I will be buying some stuff from him I'm sure.
And, this guy makes and sells a lot of CB350 engine performance parts - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://thrhonda.com/THR/CB350_K4.html">http://thrhonda.com/THR/CB350_K4.html</a><!-- m -->
My long term plan will be to strip it completely, and rebuild with modern forks, aluminum rims (still lace up of course), new shocks, cleaner electronics routing (no gauge cluster), new paint on frame and other bits. I'll probably tear the engine down and rebuild it as well for a little more scoot. But that's getting way ahead of myself, since I dont even have a garage right now (although, a walk out basement will serve in a pinch). For now I'll just reassemble and ride, and put some money away on the side to buy all the parts I'll need.
On to the photos. Reassembly starts in a few weeks.

So basically my truck has some rot behind the tailgate and on the bottom of the drivers side doors. Plus the frame is in desperate need of some tlc.
Wondering if anyone has any tips or products they've used. Looking for like rust convertors or inhibitors maybe. I think Kaan had good success with chassis saver on his trailer so I may try that for the frame but should I put a rust convertor on it too or just drive the truck down to South Carolina this weekend and park it next to a beach and hope Irma takes care of it?

i hold RJ and Jayray mostly responsible for all of this.
a long time ago, back when i could throw a couple back for a night and not be hungover for 3 straight days afterwards, i got a ride around VIR in RJ's black Type-R during a DE weekend. that thing was a screaming riot, and did things i didn't think a FWD car could/should do. shortly afterwards, i ended up rooming with Jay who had a '99 Si. what a sick masochist that car was....just beaten relentlessly and kept asking for more while driving like an overgrown go-kart. not the fastest cars, but they were unfiltered and alive, and it stuck with me ever since.
fast forward a decade and a half, and my beloved 2.5RS got punted at a red light. i'm faced with a dilemma - i need a compact, fun, utilitarian and efficient car that was as reliable and "analog" as the subaru, but i wanted more power and a better chassis that didn't require so much tweaking to make it handle not like garbage. had to have a manual tranny and a real back seat, and more modern safety amenities. but beyond all that, it had to have a sense of character and occasion, and very few cars in the sub-$15k range can measure up to that list.
for 3 straight weeks after my wreck, i looked at everything and even started breaking my own rules to make something fit. i mean, literally, from Toyota X-Runners to Honda Crosstours to E91 wagons to IS300s. i had things narrowed down in the end to 2 finalists - the MKVII GTI and 8th Gen Si. Truth be told, they're very opposite characters, but each had strengths in certain areas and i had to figure out what felt the most fitting. i knew the GTI was a powerhouse and had the benefit of that awesome hatchback form. but i still remembered those days i spent in those old hondas....man they were good. were they still that good? i had to find out.
first up was the GTI, and so it was that i also dove deeply into the pit of suffering that is dealership car shopping. see, the GTI's became a possibility for my budget due to a crazy discounted August sale that was advertised showing them at $6-7k off MSRP with the additional bonus of 0% financing. i was very keen on NOT having a car note, but who can argue with 0% for 60 months? i start calling around, and by the 3rd or 4th dealer i'm seeing a trend - i can have the 0% OR the discount price, but not both....those scheming bastards. the bullshitting gets progressively more annoying with dealers starting to go silent in my email communications or only agreeing to talk over the phone, and then playing more cat and mouse games once i agree to talk. just utterly useless business tact and it became clear i couldn't get into a VW at a price that felt comfortable for me. i was glad to end that chapter.
enter Round 2 of the car hunt, which then became finding and driving a clean, unmolested 8th Gen Si with less than a billion miles on it for reasonable money. i test drove one locally, which was a smoker's car with a string of hazy ownership records and a couple half-assed modifications. i had to try it out though. i got hold of a salesman, took the car out, and by the first on-ramp it was clear these cars were special. truly a dual personality car - relaxed enough when you're just moving around, typical civic. but crest that 6,000 rpm limit and lean on the suspension and its angry and dynamic and full of racecar noises. i loved the driver interface, everything where it needs to be for performance driving and the inputs are Right Now - steering, clutch, shifter. tons of room inside too, for what they are. seemed to be stout build quality as well. i made a note of it, left, and decided this was the answer. i came to the realization that these Si's are sort of the "Last Mohicans" of the golden age of screaming VTEC hondas. only 4 honda models ever came to the states with an 8,000+ RPM redline, LSD, and 6 speed 'box: the S2000, NSX, ITR and 8th Gen Si. in short, honda will never build a car like this again for emissions reasons combined with the horsepower wars, which demand turbo power and lower revs. the newer civics will be faster, sure, but the experience i loved will be gone. i wanted a piece of that classic honda driving feel.
it became obvious very quickly that i had taken on a task that may require therapy. over the course of 2 weeks i test drove 3 Si's and attempted to purchase 2 of them in 2 different states, both deals falling apart in the final hour either due to negotiations not working out or life events taking the car back off the market. with my insurance rental gone at this point, i had about a week to figure this out or i'd have to just settle for what i could find locally, and to be honest i was getting emotionally drained anyway.
finally, in what felt like the 11th hour of the final inning of the last game, i came up on an Autotrader ad buried at the bottom of a list of cars, for an Si at a little tiny "mom & pop" dealer right here in GA, that checked every box I was hoping for: nice color, 09-11 MY, 1 owner southern car and UNMOLESTED. i cannot put too fine a point on how hard it is to find one of these things in anything resembling stock condition. higher miles than i wanted, but if it presented and drove well, i'd be fine with it. So, Friday before Labor Day at 5:30, i'm on the phone with this dealer asking 1000 and 1 questions about the car. everything is checking out. i decide its Go Time....except i need to get a certified check from my bank, which closes for the holiday in 25 minutes! AUGH. drive like a butthead over to the bank, blast through the doors like Kramer with 10 minutes to spare, and grab the sacred check. OK, call the dealer back, talk some more about seeing the car the next day...and the guy, Ron, makes a comment about the K20 in the Si and how they're strong enough to give him grief when he races. Wha? i gotta know more. we carry on a bit longer and i come to find out that Ron is a race director for NASA-SE! he campaigns an S2000 in Honda Challenge and drives a Legends car in American Iron too. unreal, and welcome news. apparently he's just an older dude who digs cars and has fun selling them from a little business he has set up. he knew the PO of this Si as well, and helped broker him a new BRZ, so the car's history is pretty known. i know now that this HAS to happen...the odds of finding another car like this, sold by someone that knows Hondas, just isn't going to come up again.
fast forward to Saturday morning. Ron has agreed to hold the car for me (racing community FTW) and give me right of first refusal when i get there. i'm out of bed at 6:30, throw sleepy wife and boy in the xterra, bomb over to Lawrenceville 2.5 hours away. we get there and he's got the car right on the corner of the lot, all shiny and proud. i give the car a thorough look-over, and Ron insists on driving the first loop of the test drive to assure me he isn't hiding anything. we poke around for a few minutes, then he just belts it - redline 2nd and 3rd, shift light strobing, just letting that K20 sing. slams into ABS braking - hands off the wheel to show its not wandering or pulling - then pitches it into a ramp and another VTEC romp through 3rd. i'm already sold. this thing just wants to run and run, and is clean as a whistle. we switch places, and within the first couple shifts i've got the clutch takeup down and can already tell this one's more solid than the first Si's i test drove, which had half the mileage. so as i'm driving it, Ron gets 2 calls - one guy wants to come buy the car today, and another guy from TN is trying to buy it sight unseen, over the phone, with a credit card. holy crap! i had no idea these cars were this hot right now. no more screwing around, let's get a check in this guy's hand. i felt like Indiana Jones outrunning the boulder trap and escaping with the gold idol....but i made it.
and so, finally, later that day i pulled this into the driveway:
![[Image: dSFjju4.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/dSFjju4.jpg)
2010, 86k highway miles, almost new tires, completely stock and rust free. Dyno Blue Pearl. it has some warts, sure - a couple good rock chips, some spider cracking in the paint on the rear bumer from a boop, the wheels are chewed up from some sloppy parallel parking, and a cracked fog light. overall though, it just rips and feels as tight as a car with far less miles.
current plan is to just love on it in the coming weeks:
• full detail inside and out
• new oil/filter and gearbox fluid
• air intake and cabin filters
• replace fog light
• patch up chipped paint
• needs an alignment
• install/hardwire my old dashcam
mod plans will be pretty straightforward updates to ensure the car is capable of turning a drama-free HPDE weekend while remaining as stock as possible. its incredibly tempting to throw parts at the engine....a reliable 240whp is completely formulaic with bolt-ons and a cam at this point. but, i really enjoy it just the way it is, and i've never been a "numbers guys" anyway, so these parts will come in slowly:
• TSX front caliper upgrade with better pads f/r
• shift knob (just a thing i do to make it "mine")
• SPC crash bolts to dial in about -1 degree camber up front
• OEM mud flaps for the rear

Hey alright, welcome to my project thread! Driving the faultless IS was providing for a too-financially-stable lifestyle and the Homelite wacker is collecting dust in project purgatory, so I bought this:

Purchased on Thursday, August 24th and delivered this past Saturday, the 2nd. She’s a ’94 PEP (Popular Equipment Package) in Vintage Red with 88,2xx miles. Mine is 1 of 159 for ’94, with the PEP package bringing a metal sunroof, leather seats, and a few cosmetic deletions such as front lip, foglights and rear wing. I found this car on eBay from a dealer in Florida, who had purchased it from a 83 year old man who had owned it since 2009.
Why?
Purchasing this car was what I like to call a very, very slow impulse buy. I’ve grown to love the FD as much as any other car over the years - the ride-along encounter with Robin’s (Zach’s brother) LS2 V8 FD in 2010 gave me a raging clue that this was a car to truly lust after; gorgeous inside and out, with a sublime chassis to match. Loving its little brother - my NB Miata - as I did, and coming across many mouth-watering FD’s at Cars and Coffee and other events over the years only grew the desire to experience one. And then I saw this video:
...which quickly became one of my most re-watched videos of all time, up there with the probably NSFW Mastodon "Motherload" music video and Acid Trek.. I've watched this video in the shower on more than one occasion. I've pushed my supermarket shopping cart into the quietest wine section aisle for a RX7 reprieve. That video did a number on me.
RCR's review didn't hurt either:
If you dare to descend into to the comments section of the above, Dylan6611 wrote:
You gave me every reason not to want one of these, but you also gave me every reason to want one of these.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Despite the festering desire to own a FD RX7, I've long been fully aware of the fact that owning one could be likened to volunteering to hold a hand grenade with the pin pulled. So I benched the idea, test drove a handful of other cars, and waited. And watched. Watched as the values of anything remotely desirable or "future classic" offering an analog driving experience built in the 90's/early 00's skyrocketed in price. I began to write off one car after another, but the pang of starting to see the FD ascend to such heights stuck with me. Damn logic, and reason, and logic again, it was time to act.
Around the time of this realization I noticed two stars were aligning: I'm soon to turn 30, and my parents, including my 66-year old dad, had recently retired. The thought of being able to not only enjoy one of my hero cars as a milestone birthday gift to myself, but to enjoy it with him as a quasi-retirement gift was more than enough to 2800 lb. red-pill myself into taking the plunge into RX-7 ownership once I saw this car's listing go live. He's garaging it and will have keys to drive it whenever he wants to stunt on everyone about town like a retired sir.

Y u no V8?
This was a struggle. In the end, my purchase decision came down to this car, or a ’93 LS2-swapped FD in South Carolina that was built with all the right parts. There still would’ve been a healthy amount of making the latter car “mine” - there were some cosmetic choices I wasn’t a fan of - but it was the diamond-in-the-rough high-caliber build in a sea of shadetree project cars, and such LS-FD builds don’t come up as often or as well-priced as I’d like, as this example was.
In the end, the desire to at least experience a twin-sequentially turbo’d rotary engine reaching 8k rpm won out. Saying that sequence of words still sounds bonkers to me, as does the idea that I now own something with that nature and capability under the hood. I have a goal of owning a car of every (at least somewhat mainstream) engine configuration, and the uniqueness, rarity, and shall we say “quirks” of the rotary just gave it a charm over time that I couldn’t ignore. I can experience a V8 in so much else in the future, and even in this if I want to - but I want to give the rotary its due.
There was another reason that increasingly bugged me, however, when it came time to seriously consider buying a swapped car: no one keeps them for long. The LS-FD community is the pinnacle of “buy-build-sell” activity, and I can’t assume that it’s because their community is solely-composed of those masochists who truly prefer “the experience of the build” versus driving and living with the fruits of their labor.
An example? Here’s one of the nicest builds I’ve ever seen - not just of a LS-FD - that went well above 100k all in. Surely after all was said and done, this would be worth hanging on to for more than a ~year?
Nope, up for sale it went. And then the car, with the new owner was featured on Speedhunters and the new owner repped how amazing the car is. And then within a month of his comment, he put the car back up for sale.
I know the swapped cars are generally raw, unrefined beasts to live with, but until I figure out what’s going on with that part of the community & ownership experience, I wasn’t 100% comfortable with making that leap right now. Despite the rotary’s reputation, there’s a much larger diehard community that has solved basically every issue and answered every question about these cars by now. The idea of relying on one guy halfway across the country who makes this or that one crucial swap part to always be interested in answering emails or phone calls was too much of a risky proposition for now. The market, cottage industry, and community around the LS-swap is maturing and expanding at a steady rate, however, so we’ll see what the future holds.
I knew this one was coming…
But what about the Supra!?
Well:
This is normal.
So here’s the deal: I almost bought one of those too. Remember when I said I test drove a few other cars up there? Back in the summer of 2015 I drove up to NJ to test drive a ’93.5 TT 6-speed targa car, that was warmed over to so-called BPU (Basic Performance Upgrade) levels with bolt-on’s to the tune of ~450rwhp on the stock twin turbos.
It was amazing. And it sucked. I’ll try to explain: when I owned my MKIII Supra, driving (Ryan T’s) MKIV was a revelation. It was like everything my car wasn’t - lithe, athletic, communicative, all with the feeling of such solidity that it felt as if the car had been hewn out of some sort of space rock. It was one of the best drives of my life, on Rt. 33 with that car. I had met my hero and it. was. good.
And then I lived with a Miata for 4 years. Now, I lusted for a MKIV throughout my ownership of the Miata, but during those 4 years, the memory of my drive in Ryan’s MKIV faded in equal, if opposite measure to my growing appreciation for the lightweight, supremely communicative driving experience that the Miata afforded.
In truth, the MKIV can kick up its skirt move like a sports car, but has the bones and true character of a GT car. And after the Miata, a GT car the Supra very much was that day in NJ. It felt huge and wallowey, but once the throttle was pinned in a straight line - I couldn’t imagine what, say, a 700whp single-turbo car must feel like. It was insane how that car moved out. But it no longer felt as right. Maybe it was the one I drove that day - it was on the rougher side cosmetically, the trans needed a new synchro or two, and it needed a tune (hence why it was even able to be on my radar as the price reflected these issues)- but I didn’t walk away with quite the same butterflies in my stomach as I had some years before. I’d still love one, of course, but I don’t quite believe that the price they command these days ultimately lives up to the experience. I’ve now long thought that, dollar for dollar, a FD is probably a much better value. Time will tell.
Future Plans
Immediately: the car does need a little TLC. The tires are 11 years old, the shifter bushings feel worn and a bit sloppy, and there's a slight vibration coming from somewhere in the rear. I'll be diving into some minor work here and there, but the plan is to take it to an area rotary specialist for a good look over to ensure it's 100% healthy or make it so.
Longer term...
I learned many a lesson during and after my experience with my Miata, which stands as my one and only true “build”. Namely, that unless you have megabucks, cars can generally only do one thing *well*. I tried to make the Miata into one of those fabled “dual purpose” street/track cars, but in the end it sucked to drive on the street, and was too nice and full of my capital and emotional investment to wad up on track, so it just kind of….was.
The RX-7 won’t become a “track car”. No concessions will be made to tracking - there will be no FIA seats, no 6-point harnesses, no squealing pads or widest, stickiest-possible tires.
No, this car will be built to live happily on the street, and the occasional, casual autocross, first. Remember, my 66-year old dad will be driving this car too - and to that end, I’ve formulated a build plan that should hopefully make this a very competent street car.
On the horsepower front, my goal is to keep things simple and extract every safe, useable, livable bit of power out of the car and nothing more. I want to keep the stock turbos in place in sequential mode, and eventually reach in the neighborhood of 320whp with them. Thankfully, there’s a very simple recipe that’s been well proven by now to reach this level:
- A full 3” exhaust - I’ll likely go with the quiet Tanabe Touring Medalion.
- An A’Pexi Power FC EMS
- An uprated fuel pump and possibly injectors
- An aftermarket intercooler
- Requisite cooling mods, namely a sturdier radiator and fan controller fixings
- A slightly uprated clutch
- About 12-15 psi with a tune
The PO handled a few of these mods - there's a RX7Store catless downpipe (absolute necessity to rid the FD of the killer clogged cat in this section) and catless midpipe which - OK - how does anyone live with a catless car? A catless rotary no less!? I was starting to get a headache and my clothes stank inside of 40 miles! Catted midpipe incoming ASAP.
He also installed an aluminum radiator and AST (air separation tank), and an ACT 6-puck clutch and lightweight flywheel. This will be replaced with a full-face disc because street car - though my dad is a total boss at handling it as it sits. I also have a PowerFC and Greddy SMIC (stock mount intercooler) on the way. The PO also installed an A'Pexi Power Intake which I'm on the fence about, it seems to be more of a hot-air intake, TBD on that front.

Appearance wise, the exterior will be getting a JDM '99+ front end, and probably an OEM R1 rear wing which I've always loved, though I didn't think I'd like the current wingless look as much as I do. I'm mulling my options for wheels to replace the wee-little stockers, but again, nothing too crazy for a street car.
Speaking of nothing too crazy, it's pretty wild how this car handles out of the box, even on ancient tires and lacking a needed alignment. I can't imagine doing too much in the suspension department, but I'm sure the original bits could use attention at some point so perhaps some springs/shocks or a set of coilovers and sways.
On the interior the A-pillar gauges will be getting ditched entirely for a new trio of combined boost/AFR, oil pressure and water temp in a triple dash pod. The original leather presents well, but 90's Mazda leather was never approaching Montalban-approved levels of quality so recovering would be a "nice to do" at some point. A few other touches here and there should set it off nicely.

And the final and most importat part of the plan - to enjoy and share the car with as many people as I can. See you on the twisties

Let's see how true this thread title stands.
As stated in the diesel thread I got rid of the 2500HD. Really was too much truck needed for what I do/plan to do. I had this grand plan and reality set in. Live and you learn. I had enough self control to wait until I could break even in the loan to downgrade. Worked with current credit union to stay with the same great rates.
This won't be much of a project thread more of a documentation thread. I just hope the truck lasts a good while. Only a few things planned for it.
On to the goods.
2014 F150 4x4 SuperCrew Lariat with 44k miles. Looks like it was actually taken care of just judging by interior and exterior is almost flawless. Really really like the color combo inside and out. Never been a huge fan of red but this color is nice. Really nice. I also really don't usually like two-tone trucks but this color combo just really works.
Notable features:
- Heated and cooled package pleasure-ers, there are a lot of tiny holes in this leather, front bucket seats
- 10,000 way power adjustable seats
- Is this even real wood dash and door trim?
- High intensity I blind other driver's headlights
- This navigation system still has a 2014 nav card
- I will probably never off-road this descent control, skid plates, and 'off-road', baby soft tuned shocks
- I'm too lazy to get out of my truck power folding mirrors
- Eight or whatever amount of speaker, this isn't really worth the money, Sony sound system
- Why does my truck have a sunroof?
- I tow things, tow mode, trailer brake controller, and transmission cooler with gauge
- This is decent, Sync system with MyFord Touch system - I can actually tell this shit to change climate settings and turn on my package pleasure-ers
- My backup camera makes weird beeping noises when I hit things
- Remote start - for the days in the summer and winter when I'm feeling like a princess
- There is an actual f*cking power outlet in my truck
- Conventional hitch towing of 9,600 pounds
Plans are:
- New black floor liners for front and back
- Spray-in bed liner
- Hard folding bed cover
- Most likely a tune
