i did once with RJ, i think in 2013 on my dual suspension. poor guy - he ran a great 3 hrs and then i promptly went out and bonked on my first 12 mile lap and had to retire. a lot of excuses on my end but mainly bad meal/water prep. everything just locked up.
would love to go back and ride it someday just for fun. such an awesome course but its punishing...you're either climbing or getting worked on downhill rollercoasters.

Only for running, and most days running I am with the wife or my neighbor who use theirs. I use it mainly to guilt myself to run harder when I see shitty averages.
Any reason to use it for mountain biking?
I like it for keeping track of my ride mileage and checking my PR's on trail sections. Gives me something to aspire to if I know I hit a certain section in X:XX and could possibly shave off a few seconds.

registration for 6hrs of Warrior is Jan 25 next year....IIRC that race sells out in like a day so you gotta get on your horse. maybe there are other 6 hour jams in the NC/VA area that would work too.

I have a history of signing up for things way above my skill level (cause fuck it why not?!). I have ridden exactly 3 times on trails on my mountain bike...6 hour enduro??? SOUNDS LIKE FUN!

One of my drivers just gave me a Cambox (camera that mounts under helmets above the eyes). I plan on using that a bit for mountain biking and karting.

Riding XC is gonna be a real bitch getting your ass back that far smoothly when you're running your seat high. Not impossible, but more difficult when your seat isn't dropped way down. I'm looking into running a dropper post on my bike for this exact reason.
Good times crushing trails last night. It's certainly rewarding watching that "A-HA" moment click in for new riders. Mountain biking is all about momentum and balance. That's it. As we ride more of the trails here you'll get faster just like racing because you'll remember the course. You know your lines, you know your braking points, and you know when you can just straight haul ass down the straights.
Scotty nailed it with other riders. Riding with people faster than you makes you take risks and pushed you more which ultimately makes you faster. I've gotten in on a group of racers that host more casual Thursday night rides. It has definitely put me in my place quite a few times.
Also, any of you clowns on Strava? Good point, it's been a while since I've been on a hardtail. I "cut the corner" and half ass a manual 95% of the time because that's really all you need to get over most things. I'd try it out a bit to see how it feels. The recoil trick works good until you mess up the timing and then it's gets sketchy really fast.
Dropper posts are definitely legit. Probably my favorite upgrade that came on my Stumpjumper along with the 1x11 setup. Probably the first bike I've ever had that's actually big enough for me. It's a 29er XL setup which would probably look ridiculous if I wasn't as big as I am. I might have to bring it down with me if you guys are gonna be riding after work.

that's exactly what i did with RJ and our friend Al when i bought my MTB in '09. I rode 2 times with them for about an hour each then signed up for a 13-hour 3-man race, haha. why not? that hurt, but was a lot of fun despite me breaking my frame on my 6th and last lap. I never really rode MTB much before then, except the time i destroyed Scotty's Rear Derailleur trying to shift and put down power in the Botanical Gardens at JMU one year.

Lol you and me both. I'm running a 29er XL Scott Hardtail. Going to convert to 1x10 today. Ordered a RaceFace 32T Single-wide chain ring for up front as well as upgrading to a XT bottom bracket. Pretty sure my current BB is absolutely smoked. It was groaning when I first got the bike. Going to see how that plays out and whether I will need to pickup a 11-42 rear cassette to give me a little more climbing power. I pretty much run the middle ring on my 3x10 anyways so I'll be fine. Coming from the SS life I've got the leg strength.
Bring it!
I'm serious about a race team for that event.
@DJ, when can we all come crash at Casa de Fitzpatrick and do a Tour de NC?

I Am too, I have the date saved on my calendar for registration.
As for coming down, July/August is out due to kid and then previous plans, but September and October are fairly open. I would be glad to have some guys down and do a bunch of trails.

Hitting up Bryce on Friday. Getting the younger son (13) a lesson. The older sort of got one last time out, he was by himself so one of the patrollers rode with him for about an hour and it was a huuuuuge help for him. I have no problem getting down the greens and blues but terrible at articulating anything I'm doing technically and kids often just respond better to non-parental coaching.
