Mountain Bikes

What should I look for? I would like a decent bike to ride around the neighborhood and do some easy trails. I don't want nor need the top of the line type. Just something respectable.

my dad is in the same boat. came from a mountain bike background (had one of the first cannondales) but now just rides around the neighborhood to keep the blood flowin i guess. he is looking for a new bike and was all about a mountain bike but i asked him how much trail riding he does and it was basically "none."

maybe a cross bike? what kind of trails, are we talking like old railroad bed trails or stuff with roots/rocks?

Roots, rocks, liberals etc.

FWIW: I am 6'2" if that means I need a certain size. I see some 26" and 4.5? (what is this 4.5?)

Trek for life!

ps- the duallie should be for running over liberals. if you try to run over a liberal on a bicycle then he will think you are coming on to him.

you probably want around a 19" frame

When are you going to wipe the dust off your bike and come ride?

Alan I would recommend this bike
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/2008/mountain_hardtail/6_series/6000/">http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/20 ... ries/6000/</a><!-- m -->

but I also know how stingy you are, so you could go with this
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/2008/mountain_hardtail/4_series/4500/">http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/20 ... ries/4500/</a><!-- m -->

but anything lower end is going to start falling apart on any kind of real trail

How about wednesday, 6:30pm at the ice rink. Enough time to head towards great falls and back.

Yeah, it's not bad at all. It's definitely several clicks below fountainhead... maybe about on par with wakefield. I can take a look at your bike on like, Thursday afternoon if you want.
