Hobby special...
Miscellaneous stuff since my PC shit the bed lately and I'm just gonna buy a new one - prices are shipped to you unless you're local and want to meet up (Great Falls)
Corsair DDR3 1600MHz
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DRI...UTF8&psc=1
-$75?
Refurb Core i7 2600k 3.4GhZ - $40? (you can have the original i72600k if you want too - these were good processors for overclocking and benchmark surprisingly well compared to modern CPUs)
XFX RX580 8GB GPU - $100 bucks?
As far as I know, everything works. I think my Motherboard is what the problem was, could have also been the power supply? I ordered a replacement mobo and you can have it and the original if you want - https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/P67AGD65
-$50 for both?
Otherwise this stuff going to ebay or the dump.
The RAM and GPU were bought maybe 18 months ago.
Power Supply + ATX Tower Case + Lightscribe DVD player - $40 - prefer local pickup
Offers accepted on everything. Refunds if anything doesn't work. I know it doesn't work all together, but I'm not sure what the problem is and it aint worth my time to diagnose any further.

Since the C8 is gonna provide a lot to talk about in the next couple of years, I thought it'd be easier to discuss in one thread.
Pricing for the Stingray options just got leaked:
![[Image: BtL7iyb.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/BtL7iyb.jpg)
Pretty attractive pricing for the option packages IMO. Only gotcha is that your can only get axle lift with 2LT and above. If be perfectly happy with the Z51 package as and 1LT trim buy axle lift is a really, reality useful feature for this kind of car.
But damn, about $65k for a 1LT Z51?

That time of year again, and hoping we get this done early enough that the day will work for everyone. A big thanks to Chris for hosting again this year, right next to Massanutten.
Thinking maybe November 16th as of now. How does that look on the calendars of alum who would be interested in coming? I want students to see our awesome alum network, so the more people who can come the better!
As a reference, the 22nd - 30th of November is JMU's Thanksgiving break, so those days are out. Also, the 9th and 10th of November are a NASA event at Summit.
Absolutely open to any date everyone can agree to. Want to get this discussion started now, and hopefully have a date finalized ASAP.

still getting used to seeing this hoss in our garage but it followed us home. first new car we've ever bought.
![[Image: eKLn8f0.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/eKLn8f0.jpg)
2019 TRD Off Road, basically a no option car aside from a dealer-installed clearbra on the entire hood, mirrors, and door edges. we fell into this one. the plan was to replace the xterra within the year, but our local high-volume toyota dealer was running the national 0% APR deal until September and was locally pricing these final-year 'runners very aggressively to allocate space for the upcoming 2020 MY's which have some big changes. when i say aggressive pricing, i mean after talking back and forth with the online sales manager they gave us $2000 under MSRP, and then when we got serious they came at us $1000 under invoice which came to $35.5. MSRP is $39.5, we drove off paying $37.5 out the door including $2k GA sales tax and their $450 admin fee. i feel...like it was pretty well bought. no other dealer in the entire state could/would get within $1500 of invoice.
the used market on these wasn't even an option. 'runners with 20k miles on them going for barely a few thousand less than new? with a 1 year warranty? forget that nonsense. to get a body on frame SUV we looked at old GX470's and final year Xterra Pro4X's as well, but the GX's were just too told (and Jen doesn't identify as a lexus driver, ha) and the Xterra's weren't as good a buy as i thought they'd be with the Pro4X's holding value even with 40-50k miles. Jeeps were out, FJ cruisers out, the old 4Runner V8's were too old too.
"the back windows go all the way down! and i get my own vents!" my son pointing out the truly important features
![[Image: gMLh3o6.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/gMLh3o6.jpg)
anyway, its an April '19 build date so it didn't sit long, and i think it went on one test drive before us (8 miles on the odo when we took it out). i just don't think anybody wanted a cloth interior, dedicated off roader in black/black without skipping straight to the TRD Pro trim. it was sitting and they needed it gone. but for us, perfect. we like simple, we like honest, and the T4R is very much the spiritual successor to the Xterra. it has everything you want and nothing you don't, as long as you like a full frame SUV that gives up the bells and whistles to get you further off the pavement as a utilitarian device. i think it will be the absolute perfect combo for pulling our modest teardrop trailer to parts unknown and taking us far from camp and back again.
back in black *cue guitar riff*. that's how my wife rolls. this'll be our 3rd black SUV in a row. and guess who's always gonna be cleaning the damn thing?
![[Image: I5rva84.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/I5rva84.jpg)
so this thread is not, honestly, going to be much of a project. we specifically opted for the Off Road package so that we wouldn't have to do much to it - just go out and get it dirty - and let the factory kit do its job. i see some sliders, skidplates, a mild lift (one of the reasons we opted out of the KDSS suspension) and upgraded tires in the future, and we need some factory roof crossbars. so maybe we should call this an adventure thread? its going to leave the pavement more than your average city boy SUV and i think it'll make for some great stories.
speaking of factory kit...here's what makes it an "Off Road" trim vs the standard SR5 (what you would call a base model)
• rear locking diff
• multi-terrain select (fine tunes throttle mapping, traction control, and ABS for specific terrain)
• crawl control (essentially off-road low speed cruise control that engages a higher wheel slip sensitivity)
• physical transfer case shift lever
i insisted on the diff and this was the only way to get it. all 'runners get factory traction control called ATRAC that's pretty baller and will get us through 90% of what we encounter via acting like an e-locker aka individual wheel slip control. i'm not impressed with the weaksauce tires but we can fix that.
these 'runners get a lot of flak for being priced beyond what they really are - essentially churched-up trucks with 2010 tech in them. and i don't think that's unfair. but i do think they're the last of their kind, and i think their claims to cast-iron assembled-in-Japan reliability are well earned due in large part to sticking to what they know and keeping the tech BS to a minimum. i see it as a 15 year investment and that's money in the bank to me.
so, join us, won't you, as we explore the appalachians and hopefully the lower 48 to follow in the coming years while we put TRD's finest hardware to the test. i'd also be happy to go over how i shopped the car, some tactics i used, and the negotiation process fwiw.

MM Price - $3200
after 12 years of ownership, its time.
we'll be moving onto something a bit newer and bigger for long distance adventures. great condition for its age, and the 4x4 models are getting tougher to find. i've had a long ownership to go through this thing with a comb so i can tell you pretty much anything you need to know about it. would make a great winter bomber / camping rig or just something to keep around for odd jobs. its old school...drives like a truck because it is one. slow, simple and honest.
southern car with NO CORROSION, 2nd adult owners, title in hand. sees mostly highway miles. sat parked most of the time when we lived in ATL/Raleigh since Jen took public trans so it didn't see major city traffic.
super reliable. needs a few things (noted below) from normal wear and tear but otherwise just goes and goes, anytime and almost anywhere. wife commutes in it everyday and we use it for most of our major vacation and holiday trips. garaged since 2012, nothing but quality synthetic fluids, never abused. up to date on recalls. AC blows icy and the heat will melt your face. 4WD and locking hubs engages and disengages without an issue. starts up with a flick of the key.
Paint is a 5/10 in my critical opinion. just an old clearcoat and lots of rock dings. all the weatherstripping is still good. regularly washed/waxed because i find turd polishing a relaxing passtime. it took a light hit in the driver's front quarter 2 yrs ago, got a new painted front quarter panel, bumper, grill and headlight bezel. totally straight, decent paintwork.
comes with 2 key fobs, a hitch ball, BNIB 555 Idler Arm, BNIB MOOG zerk-fitted driver's side lower ball joint, BNIB MOOG Drag Link, and a binder full of receipts and full Excel spreadsheet showing all maintenance records.
Specs
• 147,783 miles and goes up daily
• SE Trim, Super Black over Grey Celadon
• 4spd Auto Trans, 4x4
• 3.3 SOHC V6 180hp 202lb.ft
• factory LSD
• factory 300W Rockford Fosgate 8 speaker system
• factory tow hitch
• factory step boards
"Modifications"
• intake silencer delete
• knock sensor relocation (popular and fixes overactive knock sensor)
• Bilstein 4600 stock-height shocks F/R
• Akebono Pro-ACT Ceramic front pads
• hardwiring for dash cam installation
• replaced front cig lighter socket with USB charge ports
Recent Maintenance this past year
• new A/C compressor high-side line and recharge
• Duralast front sway bar links
• new front rotors and front bearing repack (w/mobil1 synth grease)
• Amsoil sythetics in t-case and rear diff
• Continental Poly-V drive belts (all 3) with new Gates and AC Delco pulleys
• NGK Plug Wire Set (blue!)
• PCV valve and hose
• tire rotation
• throttle body cleaning
Problems
• ding in the rear bumper center section from a parking lot boop
• some weird water stains in the back seat fabric
• windshield has a small crack in lower driver's side
• headliner's got a few saggy patches. i re-upholstered it in 2013, went too light on the glue apparently.
• 6-disc CD player's acting sassy. won't load. nobody listens to CD's anymore so we just let it go.
• slight hesitation/idle bounce for the first minute or two warming up. doesn't always happen, figure its likely a dirty MAF or maybe time for a distributor cap.
• doesn't like 87, prefers 89. can get pingy in real hot weather on the cheap stuff if you push it. we just run it on 89 all the time and its smooth going. tried retarding the distributor a bit but didn't seem to do much.
• HVAC recirc button doesn't seem to do much anymore
• drives straight but tramlines a bit on the highway, could use an alignment. i've been putting that off until i fixed the steering links but that's not a very pressing job. not a big deal but thought i'd mention it.

So Sahm, Alex, and I all went out to a Summit track day with N2 a few weeks back. We found out about them from one of their organizers at the International Motorcycle Show in DC. We linked up with him at the track and got talking about college students and track days. Robby really wants to help get kids off the street and onto the track to learn in a safe and controlled way how to ride and race a motorcycle. Essentially lining up directly with the goal of MM.
That brings me to the awesome news: bringing MM and N2 together to help make track days more accessible. There are lots of details, but know that this is an awesome deal for anyone interested in getting on track with their bike. If you’re interested in doing track days with N2, reach out to me and we can talk about the specifics. They have events up and down the east coast, as you can see on their website.
I can’t be more excited for this, as it’s taking something similar to our NASA partnership, and bringing it to all our current and hopefully future motorcycle riders.
Sahm and I are going to try and hit up their August 25th event at Summit. I you’re interested let me know and we can all go down as a group and hang out.
