SO... in our house we destroy gasoline. the Jeep with an 4.0L I6 and the Tundra with a 5.7... they love to visit the gas stations. We needed something that got "good" gas mileage (we considered an S2k, because 21mpg seemed good) and we wanted some utility (even if we needed a roof rack, etc). 

I'm a pretty brand loyal person... the Tundra is amazing but i wish the Ridgeline was better suited for my need. I kept looking at the honda lineup, looking at prices, etc. The Honda Fits were just SO cheap for what you were getting... so we started stalking the typical websites looking for a deal.... you know Sylvia and I like deals. 

We went to Landmark Honda and picked out a 2009 Honda Fit Sport... 51,700ish miles... black on black... 3 pedals... 5 speeds...zero accidents and 100% dealer maintained. We haggled over the price, they were really stuck on zero accidents (i was too but i wasnt going to tell them)... i only really got a discount because their sticker had listed options the car didnt have... navigation and hatch cover to be exact. so they rounded down to the nearest thousand and waved their $800 processing fee (whiskey tango foxtrot). 



The plan... drive the hell out of it. we average 20k miles/year on our vehicles... this will take all the weekend miles and sylvias miles to the hospital (technically my park and ride is closer). It fits both our bikes for our weekend trips (no more 15mph Tundra trips)... in the 3 days we have owned it I decided we needed to add some stuff...

over the next couple of weeks (pre vacation)... weather tech floor mats, weather tech rain guards, and canvasback seat/trunk mat are all going to get thrown on. there are zero floor mats in the car and we need them... the car is black on black so i'd like to leave the windows cracked under the rain guards... and while it has a TON of space in the back, it didnt hold up that great to one trip with the welder in the back. 



we are averaging 42ish mpg right now... i did a full commute to dc in it yesterday... even with the disaster of afternoon traffic it was getting great mileage. so far it looks like it will pay for itself in fuel savings in 19 months (or roughly 32k miles). 


dont shed too many tears... i'm hunting the fit forums for wrecks and part outs... i'll start collecting the K swap parts when they come up. I think when my nephew starts driving in 10 years we will give it to him and swap it. 

I won my case against Ford with the BBB Auto Line (full update/story to come in that thread, later) and long story short, my 2018 F-150 gets repurchased tomorrow morning. With the truck's return looming and my '01 X5 shitbox-offroader-that-I've-been-daily-driving looking less and less appealing by the day, I started seriously shopping a few weeks ago. With my "fark, what do I buy" thread returning no real surprise thoughts, I decided on a 2014-2018 Ram 1500 as the next tow rig/daily. The "big SUV" options didn't excite me much, and nothing I was shopping would be truly fun like a sports car, so having the best tool for the hardest job was most important.

Anyway, with the Ford financials secured (I'm getting some money back) I was able to set a budget and get serious. I decided the appearance of the Sport trim (different bumpers/wheels, lack of chrome) was what I preferred, and the Blue Streak Pearl paint color was my first choice. Ended up finding two of the same truck late last week and made a move on one last night. I picked the one that was cheaper and in better condition and closer to home.

Zach and Tyler get big kudos for driving me out to Chantilly at rush hour, then sticking around until we made sure the truck wasn't a rusty POS and agreed on a price.

This is a 2016 Ram 1500 Sport with 41,500 miles. It was sold to me as FCA Certified Pre-Owned and has a powertrain warranty extended to 7 years/100k miles from first date in service. I also get a 3 month/3k mile bumper-to-bumper warranty to cover anything that comes up. It's got a Hemi (yeet) paired to the Mopar/ZF 8-speed and four-wheel drive. This truck has nearly every option available on the Sport for 2016, including leather seats, power-folding mirrors, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, Alpine audio (that bumps), keyless go, remote start, and the 8.4" UConnect with navigation. All Ram 1500s are coil-sprung and mine has the optional air suspension. It can be raised for off-roading, lowered via dash button or key fob for easy entry/exit, and will tuck itself down a little bit above 60 mph for "aero" help.

My particular truck was a 1-owner example from Winchester, VA. It came on brand-new Goodyear tires and included a spray-in bedliner and Bakflip MX4 hard tonneau cover ($960 new). Seems like the first owner took care of it, and I'm going to reach out to the servicing dealer in Winchester to see about any service history.

The brand-new Rams are super nice, but I didn't feel like they were worth a $20k+ jump in OTD pricing compared to this one.
