Because I saw a merkur on the road for the first time, i thought to myself, "self, why doesn't MM have a forum dedicated to car information? It would be in the main forum, searchable (obviously), and hopefully correct." So there it is. Should we add a forum for car info where people would post info about cars and their specifications?

Here are the positions and exact details for each. Look for the number of positions needed and let me know if you can help in any position.
(4 needed so groups of 2 can rotate)
Gate Attendants: Stop all vehicles entering lot and direct them to either the registration tent if the are entering the show or to the far side of the lot near McGraw Long Dorm. Do not allow vehicles into the show area unless they are registered and paid the entry fee. Direct vehicles over across the RR tracks to R1 lot for additional parking. DO NOT LEAVE POSITION UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE COVERS YOU!
People to let in for free:
ÔÇó Bill Wilkey from Capital Area Pocketbike Racing Association- show to display area
ÔÇó Darren Drury with JMU NASCAR and 1970 Cutlass- show to display area
ÔÇó City Motors dealer (viper or white mr2 turbo)
ÔÇó Any dealer cars- direct to dealer spots
ÔÇó Blue Ridge Power Sports- show to display area
ÔÇó Police!
(4 needed so groups of 2 can rotate)
Registration Tent Workers: Responsible for signing in all entries (including all club members) and collecting money. ($10 members, $15 non-members- if there is a question with membership- see Chris or Mike!). Put sticker on windshields of cars that have registered and paid. Be sure entrants fill out entry form, pay entry fee, and fill out show evaluation sheet by the end of the day. Also, pass out schedules for the day to each entry. Limit vehicles that enter show area to only those who are in the show. Be very careful to safeguard money. Direct each entry to the correct category area! DO NOT LEAVE POSITION UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE COVERS YOU!
(4 needed so groups of 2 can rotate)
Concession: Sell food, drinks, and club T-shirts to everyone. Be sure to know prices of each item, and collect money in a specific container. Keep an eye on ice and inform officers if you need more. Be very careful to safeguard money. DO NOT LEAVE POSITION UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE COVERS YOU!
(I think Jack will do this mostly, but 2 other people can help)
TV/GT3 Tent: In charge of keeping videos running all day and controlling GT3 game. Watch equipment very carefully! Keep sides of tents down except for one entry/exit. DO NOT LEAVE POSITION UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE COVERS YOU!
(one person needed)
DJ Assistant: Help DJ as needed. Be sure stereo equipment has fans blowing on each item so they donÔÇÖt overheat. Free to walk around unless DJ needs help.
(any and all help!)
Before and After Setup/Cleanup: general help in the morning around 9:30am, and cleanup following the show. Main concerns are setting up rental equipment, blocking off category areas, putting signs on main campus roads directing to show, and taking care of trash cans and trash bags around show area.

Well I know all of you haven't been informed of the Madison Motorshow details, and now is your time to know! We've been working out a lot of details and fighting bureaucracys, but most of the final things are worked out. I have included a show map design, that will be the general layout if every group shows up.
-pocket bike club is bringing 6-8 bike and having a display
-JMU NASCAR is being put on display (owner bringing a 1970 cutlass)
-Soapbox display from local kids group
-4x4 vehicle category if enough show up (there was interest from a group so we created a category)
-JMU break dance club to perform at NOON
-DJ set
-we are selling food that we will purchase at cost-co- only packaged food and soda
-GT3 and race video playing in tent with food
-possible dealerships to come: O'Baugh Chevy, city motors, Subaru, H-Burg auto outlet
-donations received: $50 crutchfield, $50 Shenandoah automotive, $25 and $10 gift cert. from advance auto, 2 free oil changes from Merchants, 3 free oil changes from Toyota dealer, and 2 value meals from Mc D's
-some of these prizes will be raffled off
-club t-shirts for sale at show
-possible display from blue ridge power sports (bike shop)
-show info packets and evaluation forms for each participant
What to bring/what we need:
folding chairs
extension cords-tape your name on them so you get them back
power strips/surge protectors
cameras!
I will start another thread with worker positions and help needed.

Just an idea....
The wrath of kaan is putting his ricepile on the dyno tomorrow. I say we start a pool - $5 to enter, whoever is closest without going over wins half the pot, with a portion going to Kaan and the rest to the club.
Can enter up to 3 numbers each?
What do you guys think?

If anyone in their wondering finds a Merkur XR4ti for sale, let me know. If I could pick the perfect one, it'd have no engine, no tranny, no brakes, no interior, and someone would pay me to take it :-).
FYI.
Thanks,
Peter

Alright. As all of you know, I'm selling the b00sted pig b/c I don't like the way it handles, it's been a money sucking-whore, and lots of other reasons and heartaches. Obviously, I'm not going to track the mkIV, and especially not if that is also my daily driver. Sooooo, what do you think I should buy? I'm looking for something that is fairly reliable (so no rotaries), under 2 grand (doesn't have to run but needs to be easy/cheap to fix), and still decent looking. I'd like it to get decent gas mileage, but fun to drive, and serve primarily as my daily driver/track slut, leaving the IV as a possible track car occaisionally but primarily to drive for fun. Should have a strong aftermarket and handle well enough that you can have confidence in it on the track. Here's what I've come up with so far:
AWD DSM: So what, I'm infected with b00st. This would be a badass daily driver and seems to be pretty reliable, definitely easy to make faster.
Civic: Probably keep the stock motor for a while and TRY to blow it up, resulting in the need to do a swap. Probably an early-mid 90s. Easy on gas, not the fastest in the world, but still a lot of fun.
S13 240: Rex has really gotten me interested in these. Fun to drive, easy to work on, ample aftermarket, RWD, not too bad on gas, looks terrific, cheap to buy and maintain.
WRX: Great to get around town, b00st, still pretty far out of my budget though.
vtAk prelude: sweet looking car, not slow, don't know too much about it though.
E36: probably the only BMW that I actually like, although I know absolutely nothing about them or what kind of options they had. Pipe in here guys, you know me pretty well and what I would like. I also recognize it's probably out of the price range, but good to keep it in mind.

Alright fools, the time is drawing near and we need to give our cars some extra bling to make them look like hot shit. I don't have much time this week, and the weather is total shit, but a freind of mine is going to detail my car for me on Friday afternoon, and I'm passing the word along to you guys. He's been a car detailer for quite some time now and from what I understand does a very good job (this will be my first time using his services). You guys should give him a call and arrange an appt.
Matt can be reached at 540-630-1513
