ha, sadly that's probably truly how they're made.  

yeah aggressive winters are likely what i'll try to find.  dedicated rally tires are $$$ and not actually that good on our clay surfaces.  and of course winter tires will actually have some value as useful street tires for a few months.  looking hard at the Sumitomo Ice Edge and Uniroyal Tiger Paw Snow and Ice 3.  they have the 205/55 size i'm after, are cheap, and have nice big tread voids.

I had summer tires on my tuned 135, I'm pretty sure you'd do just fine.

if i could give you mine i would; mine are 205/55/16. i'm currently using some old Dunlop winter tire and it'll likely be the last season i'll be using them, so i'll be selling my winter wheels sometime in the coming months.

that's for a Pilot Super Sport 4S but all the "max performance summer" tires have the same legal snippet. it gets below freezing here and i leave the car outside sometimes. is this a "its possible it could happen, maybe, or maybe not but just in case we're saying this" kind of thing or literally never happens? i'm not waiting a day for my tires to warm up because it sat in the driveway overnight but i sure as hell don't want to crack $600 worth of tires because i drove on them before they were all happy again.

anyway as Jay said, i'm looking to get winters because its basically rally tires i can get added value out of as street tires sometimes. our clay is actually a good surface for them. also a hell of a lot cheaper than new rally tires, and used ones are impossible to find down here.

eh, it depends on the usage. I'm using summers (General G-Max RS) on the z3 right now and i've driven them in subfreezing temps before just to drive it. i just know that they're relative hockey pucks, but even without ABS i haven't had an issue with them. If you have some all seasons on one set down in HotLanta that's what i would rock for the winters; i'd even be tempted by summers all year round down there even with the occasional subfreezing days.

i'm not at all worried about the traction, its the compound cracking these manufacturers talk about. i've never actually owned a tire that actually gripped in the winter anyway.

all seasons would make fine winter tires, no problem, but then i'm not getting as much traction at rallycrosses.

solution: now i need 3 sets of tires

thanks - to my eyes they're not that far off the RSX Type-S factory wheels.  always liked a clean 5 or 6 spoke design.

the mountains are calling and i must go.

one of the best times i've ever had was an 800 mile backroads blast i took in the 2.5RS in 2012 from Durham to Cincy via the wilds of WV and southeast OH.  it was wonderful and i swore i'd do it again soon.  but too much time has passed, this poor Si is just wasted on the suburban nightmare that is my home and i'm sick of people/traffic/pollen anyway.  i need to pull the ripcord pronto.

the plan it to take a weekend drive up to the asphalt playgrounds of south NC and just enjoy all the curves i possibly can over 2 or 3 days, sometime in the next 3-4 months.  i'll tent camp and use it as a chance to scout some places to take the teardrop later this year too.  hopefully i'll take at least 10k miles worth of rubber off these hankooks so i can justify some worthy replacement summer rubber by the end of the year.

so far i'm looking to hit the following "big names" in some kind of pattern/loop so i can pack as much fun into the days as possible:

• blue ridge pkwy
• US276
• NC215
• NC151
• NC276
• NC226A 
• NC80
• upper NC209 and TN32 (maybe, its a ways up north out of the way)
• return through Wayah Rd/NC28 into northeast GA

torn on The Dragon / US129 and the Cherohala Skyway.  i want to be out there alone and free.  i've done a lot of research on it, i know how much of a hallowed driving destination the road is, but if it was ever a well kept secret that time has long, long since passed.  its basically a circus now during daylight hours.  aside from a constant police presence and overcrowding, i'm not sure if i want to deal with the incredible level of clownery it attracts from squids, "touge" tryhards, elderly harley boomers, and hyper-anxious noobs from the flatlands that have something to prove and think passing on blind turns and jumping lanes is skilled or acceptable.  the lack of etiquette isn't old-man complaining, its a serious issue that gets people hurt bad, and i'm out there to have fun not have my head on a swivel due to other peoples' incompetence.  convince me its a good idea i guess?

I like the way you think, I can't imagine the dragon has anything significantly better than the thousands and thousands of other mountain weaving roads less traveled.
