Totally going to brag real quick, but I somehow managed to be the face of Technology in our recruiting pamphlets out of a company of almost 3000 people.

I came to JMU to recruit for all technology positions on Tuesday and met some really smart people and got a chance to suggest the ones I liked for further consideration which is an awesome honor! I'll also be at Radford in October so if you know anyone down there, tell them to come find me. [Image: 5fcf3e780d4bafa0451fbe7a28eb98b0.jpg]

Taylor already helped me out (props man!), but I have a really close friend looking to GTFO from Deloitte. Fellow JMU COB CIS grad (2012). He's done pretty much the whole gambit (DB,ETL,Functional Role, Requirements, etc). He's PMP,CSM,ITIL certified.

He's applied to CapOne, Carfax, and a few of the other big names. Anybody need a good resource?

I'm hiring developers,  all levels.   Several days a week of remote work possible, great cutting edge company and the pay is good too.
Java and Spring skills would be good but if you're a smart rockstar dev and can learn I don't care.
Secret clearance needed and can hold all the way up through SCI.
email me at evan55 at teh gee mailz  if you or anyone you know is interested

Or go into the sales side of technology and within 3-5 years have a base higher than the machine learning/AI/data science boss's boss's total comp and OTE higher than most enterprise companies SVPs/C-Suite  Cool

Yeah, but sales guys are douches.

(I'm pretty sure your total comp statement doesn't hold true at Amazon. If it does, you shouldn't be worried about spending an extra grand for a bigger tv. ?)

Yeah I was talking more traditional software / tech firms.  Everyone knows Amazon overpays their management :Tongue I have no idea what your salespeople make, you probably have different types of sales as well (ad, cloud services, etc)

And I'm mostly retired from direct sales.  I took a big step up in title and a big step down in comp (and I wasn't earning nearly as much as some of those cats).  But I'm not losing years off the end of my life anymore, I just concern myself more with little things like saving a grand on a TV  Big Grin

I know next to nothing about sales at Amazon, but I do know enough to know it isn't for me. Fun fact - cash for every single salaried person at AMZN is capped $160k and everything else is paid in RSU. I think the sales folks may have a different pay structure, so I suspect they could make more than that. Anyway, I'm guessing my boss' cash compensation is like 30% of total comp. Anyone see earnings this week???

As far as ML goes, I hired a few directly and managed a few managers that hired them. I think most of the Fortune 100 requires a PhD if you want to do anything more then be entry level. The field isn't old enough to have a ton of mid-level managers formally trained in the stuff, so I'm not sure how degrees are going to pan our for those roles. Right now, you have guys like me with BS Finance / MS MIS who are decent at math managing them. I've always maintained the best managers aren't necessarily the best individual contributors, so it'll be interesting to see how it pans out. If you go outside the Fortune 100, a lot of companies are hiring people with "data science" certifications and any ole degree... or you just learn Python and R and get hired most places as a BI Engineer.
