2006 BMW M3
WRXtranceformed Wrote:What do you mean by clunky? Is it the transmission? Or just how the suspension is tuned?

You have to wait for the oil to warm up before you can rev it too high. I've been told to keep it at 3k or below until the oil temp gauge starts to move. So until then, you're slower than a dump truck leaving a stoplight. You can feel the motor noticeably "loosen up" and get more down to party once it's warm, and then the car is fantastic.

In the 328, I'd just twist the key and drive it, oil temp be damned. It didn't have nearly as much of a Jeyll/Hyde thing going on, but it also wasn't as fun or fast either.

Does this change with the seasons? I assume yes due to ambient air temps..which makes this a mostly summer time car IMO.

Yeah, it'll warm up faster and be less creaky overall when it's nicer out. The past few days have been wonderful. I bought it at the middle/end of fall so I haven't had much wheel time in super-nice convertible weather yet.

Yeah the transmission in these cars isn't particularly smooth in general either. It's most noticeable in the 1-2 shift when it's cold, but it's always somewhat clunky cruising around town. At high rpm's it's perfect though so I guess that's what matters.

My drain bolt was messed up when I first changed the oil too. I'm pretty sure you can switch to a e39 m5 drain bolt which is a normal style one if you feel like doing that next time you change the oil. Double check on the forums, but I'm pretty sure I remember reading that.

Lol I can reach my drain bolt without even jacking up the car and I want one of the support-my-lazy-ass machines haha. Probably just gonna show it to my dad let him buy it and just use it when I need it.

Since Dominion was cancelled, I was chatting up Matt and he was like "yo, club dinner this Saturday, come join everyone and we'll do a cruise too." Figured why not, I had no plans other than some super-serious laser tag with friends in DC on Friday night. I helped my friend Cory look at used X5's on Saturday morning, then hit the road after lunch.

My attempts to drive with the top down all the way to JMU were thwarted about halfway there. I drove through a massive rain storm for about two miles - roof down - and saw more dark clouds on the horizon, so I had to stop and put the roof up and dry the interior out.

Got down to Harrisonburg around 2:30, picked up Brandon and ran over to Zach's place for a bit. We all met at 4:30 to blast up 33 West just like old times. Was a great turnout of students and recent-students-turned-alumni alike. Lots of younger faces and enthusiasm which is really good to see. Zach ended up behind me on the way back down the mountain and was apparently hustling his Miata pretty hard to keep up. He asked how hard I was pushing my car... there were no risks taken or limits achieved. It was pretty cool to see how capable the E46 M3 is, even though mine weighs as much as a condo and has 500TW all-seasons on it.

Dinner was at O'Neill's and then we headed back to Zach's to finish the Turducken beer. Sometime between 9 PM and midnight, we figured out Sunday was Brandon's birthday, which added to the fun. Lots of laughs were had all night and I even got to hang up on his girlfriend when she called!

Was glad something impromptu could be worked out and that I got to meet some n00bs. Sounds like there will be good student representation at karting, VIR and the car show alike.

shoot, missed a chance to pack your trunk full of stowaway basketweaves for DJ. Sounds like everyone had a good time; that moped video had better make it up here somewhere.

Aw, we could have given it the ol' college try but I'm not sure how well this car would do at transporting wheels. The trunk isn't super huge (even with the convertible stowage bin folded up) and the seats don't fold down. May have been able to do one in the trunk, two in the backseat and the fourth up front but would have been tight. The coupes are remarkably more practical.

I'll let Matthew talk about that moped video

Have you searched your car thoroughly for contraband? If you go to a secured government installation, maybe you should take the truck Wink

The new owner (Prince Al) posted a video, too... if I could figure out how to share a Facebook video post, I would. It's got blue neon underglow, and TVs in the sun visors. My mind is so full of fuck right now.

None of the above. You should research those a bit more.

Alright Mister Maryland, since living up there clearly provides more knowledge, spill it, what's the purpa-M3 considered?
