Cordless Tools

Long story short, someone broke into my garage back around the blizzard time, stole a bunch of tools and shit. I had an 18V Black and Decker Firestorm 1/2" drill driver. I loved it because you could pop the entire chuck off and keep a hex bit behind it so you could drill a hole, then pop it off in 2 seconds and put the screw in. Apparently they don't make that anymore so I need to find a replacement.

What are you guys using for heavy-duty grade cordless tools? I also have a Dewalt 1/2" cordless impact that I like, but it was expensive and not sure if I need to maybe buy some kit that can re-use that battery but its not a big deal.

here's the dewalt..uses a DC9096 model 18V battery

Does anyone know - if I have NiCd 18V batteries, can I also use Li+ batteries that are also 18V? Looks like for the dewalts the packs are the same shape. Might just break down and buy one of the dewalt combo kits. After todays research I see it really sucks no one makes the quick-change chucks anymore.

I'm in the dewalt combo camp, got one of these sets at lowes on black friday forever ago and it's been great. You should be fine using either a nicd or li that are the same voltage, the motor isn't going to be able to tell, you'll just get more charge cycles out of the li.

All my stuff has never broken despite intense usage over 6 years. I did notice the "cheap small" batteries they come with are garbage NI-CD, but I have a lithium battery that has served me over 6 years and probably 200+ wheel changes.

If I was shopping now, I probably would go milwaukee (just for increased torque) and start that setup, but the Ryobi has served me perfectly.

Finally sold my Black & Decker set and bought a 20V Max Dewalt drill. For those looking right now, I found a Dewalt 20V 1/4" impact driver with a brushless motor, upgraded charger and 2 2.0amp/hour batteries on close out at Sears for $119. Def. a good buy. The brushed version with no batteries and no charger sells at Lowe's for $119. I picked one up to go with my 20V Max drill and it's a very nice tool.

I found mine in store. I think you are confusing a impact driver with an impact gun. An impact driver that takes a 1/4" shank is similar to a drill, but it accepts 1/4" shank bit (like screwdrivers and the like) and uses hammers to provide additional driving force. They are best used when you are driving lots of screws like building a deck, hanging cabinets, driving into really hard wood, etc. The Dewalt one is powerful enough to take off lug nuts though, I tried it last night.

I have the full size cordless impact. It's good enough to do lugs. I just recently bought a set to match that, 18V with the sawzall, and drill. They both work as advertised, but it does seem like the batteries go down faster in this than they did in my last 18V set.

Should have jumped on that dewalt deal. I couldn't find it at my sears and I'm in th market for a new cordless drill. Would have been a good way to get the batteries and start the set

what do you already have batteries for? unless you don't mind multiple chargers and battery types to keep track of
