I like how it says "Ready to roll", then lists off a ton of issues. This would be fun car to buy if I hated myself more than I already do.

One of my dad's past times, in retirement, is to check auction websites daily - he's always on the hunt for a deal. When he was here a few weeks ago, we drove about an hour south to a classic car auction. We weren't really looking, but he was ready to buy something if he found a deal. Fortunately (?) the best two deals were near the very beginning: a Midget and the Mach 1 (which went from $17,500). Here are a few pictures I took there. The auction house is literally rows and stacks of collector cars, military vehicles, and about anything else you can imagine. It was my first proper collector auction, I'm sad to say, but it was a solid way to kill a half day for the price of gas.

They both look like Series IIIs, we don't talk about those.

Agreed. Something looked funny about them. Is the front end longer?

I think its the bumper and wheels, and they added a lip to the rear wheelwell that looks like complete shit, plus the busy grill, and the "safety bumpers." It all sort of comes together to ruin the car.

I think the smart E-type money is on a Series-II 2+2, true, they aren't nearly as sexy as the Series-I or Convertible, but they can still be bought in driving condition for a reasonable amount of money, and you still get the straight-6's simplicity and charm (that 4.2 is inarguably one of the best sounding engines ever made). The biggest cosmetic differences were the more prominent front grill and exposed headlight lenses, so a casual observer wouldn't know you cheaped out.

Series I 2+2

It's a 1960s Jag.

The '69 we had at the shop required vigorous & frequent flicking of the gauges to get them to actually tell you anything, plus a 3rd gear that would wander off for a nap from time to time. I loved every bit of it.

Seriously though if you guys are looking to spice up your boring rides you should seriously consider retrofitting a manual choke and 1960s Lucas brand gauges. Nothing makes you feel more manly and WWII-submarine-operator-like than having levers, buttons and gauge-thwacking involved in your morning startup procedure.

Apparently, they aren't that desirable because the 2+2 hosed the roof line. I made my dad stay until they both sold, because I was mildly interested in bidding one if they were stupid cheap. I think maybe these went for mid to high teens.

Oh and both were V12.
