If anyone is interested I'm headed up to Rausch Creek this weekend.
Damn, I’ve been coordinating a trip to Flagpole Knob on JF for this weekend... Would’ve rather gone up there haha

Hah, I saw that thread and just posted up on JF.

That’s funny, I really wish I could go up there. If I hadn’t been working with JK505 on this trip I probably would have gone home yesterday, saw my new nephews, and then wheeled with you guys

Always down for another trip. My buddy's fiancé works in the area and they have a townhouse about 45 minutes away so his place has become home base so to speak.
Very nice, having a base so close to a trailhead is nice. Considering my apartment is all of 20 minutes to one of the entrances to the Flagpole trail, I can appreciate that.
I’m already looking forward to getting back up there. We had an awesome time and my Jeep made it through fine. Although, I’ll be honest for anyone who’s interested in going and hasn’t gone, there are some serious butt pucker moments. A few small sections of the trail (not including the Meadow Knob staircase) were tough and required serious concentration and effort for tire placement - so it's some good wheeling. The rest of the trail is pretty easy going, some great views and cool hills to climb up.
When I start coordinating another outing, I’ll make sure to post a new thread to invite any MMers along (I’ll also be in Jeep forums, but this is probably a better spot for anyone local).

I know local Tacoma guys too, but we all know that Tacoma owners have a weird hate boner over jeeps so I don't know if they'd come.
Yeah, it’s such a shame that people get all weird. Can’t we all just climb rocks and obstacles together without getting into some weird brand war?
When the time comes, I’ll be working on using as many different forums/places to get people together. It would be cool to get a diverse group of people/vehicles out there.

I think that just comes with the various limitations of each platform which ultimately leads to the ego regarding each platform. Just as an example, I've found that most IFS Toyota's are great for general trail riding/overlanding but for real rock crawling it's just a design limitation. You'll never get the same flex/strength out of an IFS system as a SOA setup.
On the other hand, IFS is an absolute dream mostly for highway driving and overlanding setups which makes it a great platform for those applications. I like my jeep but she's no highway cruiser.
Even inter brand egos exist. Hate to pick on the JK's but a lot of people poo-poo the JKU because from an offroading standpoint it's just doesn't make sense. The long wheel base means they get hung up more because of the break over angles and generally speaking approach/departure angles are meh as well. It's also a PITA to maneuver (and spot for that matter) through tight trails. On the other hand, that long wheel base is a real advantage on stability and given a small lift a JK or JKU can immediately hop up to 35" tires and be quite the force to reckon with.
So when you get a bunch of people together on different platforms to try and do it all (trail ride, crawl rocks, drive to trail head) people just pick out the limitations of each rig and then point out why it's a flaw and why their rig is better. :dunno:
While I'm guilty of being a fan-boi I'm always interested to see where other platforms excel or what their down falls are. It just comes with being an 4wd enthusiast.
Some may scoff at me (other Jeepers) but I've considered a 3rd generation 4runner as a platform I would be interested in exploring and wheeling. Decent intro price for the vehicle and mods and given you pick the right one a factory e-locker, decent gearing and pretty reliable and powerful V6 is available to happily run a 32/33" tire on 2.5" of lift. Combine that with ample cargo space and it sounds like a great DD 4wd if properly built.
With that being said... XJ OR BUST.

Definitely a lot of great points. I offroaded/adventured with a Liberty prior to buying my Wrangler, and inter-brand hate is so real for everyone. Sorta sucks, but limitations, design flaws, and deep loyalties make it shitty.
I’ve known that this has all been a thing since I bought my Liberty, and it’s tough to get people to back down from the ledge... of the brand pissing contest. But, I’d hope people would grow up and wheel with each other, regardless of brand, but I guess there are a lot of different types of people in the world.
I actually prefer diversity on the trail - it’s interesting to see different setups navigate the same obstacles. Unfortunately, my trip over the weekend was all Wranglers (2 JKs, 2 JKUs, 1 TJ), so there wasn’t much, although we all took different lines.
Point is, if I start coordinating a trip, I hope no one is deterred due to my solid axles, factory lockers and gear, and, most importantly, my fancy Rubicon sticker package  I would really love to get a diverse group of vehicles out there and see what vehicle setup and driver experience can overcome on various platforms. We’ll see if we can do this peacefully, though
Edit - wanted to add that, when trading my Liberty in, I was looking at a wide variety of platforms. I would love to get a 2gen Cruiser, any Tacoma, or any Grand Cherokee down the road, but the shoe fit with the Wrangler for now.

Whenever I'm with a Toyota group and we pass a Jeep group, it's nothing but shit talk. I have no problem with Jeep guys.
I look forward to the distant future and going SAS. I wish my Taco had the simplicity and ease of a Jeep, along with the low price point of offroading. Also, dat wheelbase.
Man, you want to talk simplicity? You’re not lookin at me haha. I learned stick on a 92 Yoder so I have an underlying love of Toyotas. The SAS is a cool move with Tacos, they’re mean little machines.
I wish I had the wheelbase of a JK with the space of my JKU. LWB Jeeps are looked at like minivans unfortunately (they sorta are for the large bit of owners), mine keeps up just fine luckily.
Any interest in going the weekend of 12/6? I know you all will have finals coming up then, but it’s worth a shot. The trip takes about 5 hours total (if we go the route I went this weekend).

I could do a Sunday run.. Unfortunately I have something Saturday evening.

Either day on the weekend will work for me. If there is enough interest, I would love to get an MM specific outing on Sunday, December 7. Anyone happen to have a list of all members with a 4x4? haha

YotaCruisn (Salar) Hey, I have a 4x4. It just never leaves the pavement and i don't even drive it on that anymore.
2004 Honda S2000
2001 F-150 4X4 6" lift on 37" tires
2007 GSX-R 600
2008 SX-R 800
1992 (slammed by PO) 240sx Coupe (SOLD)
1999 BMW POS ///M3(SOLD)
1998 Honda Civic EX beater (SOLD)
No extracurricular activities for me until semester due to my restricted. By that time, I'll have my new front springs and new rear shackles, so I'll ready to wheel.
Does Salar have his car on campus?
Thanks for the list!
Not sure if it’s a 4x4 if it stays in the parking lot though :bootyshake:
Maybe we could shoot for a post-winter break outing then? Students will be freed up from a large workload, we can plan a bit better, and have a better chance a nice turnout.

It'll be cold and definitely high chances of snow/ice.. Just have to be careful as those conditions can be dangerous if not DEADLY.
To be frank most of us/rigs are not suited to guiding a bunch of "newer" folks in those conditions without prior experience and knowledge.
NOVA Jeepers ran Flagpole in Dec/January in 2012 as part of their End of the Year run and it ended up being an overnight 17 hour winch fest....
