Project DD moonlighting as trail rig

Of course, this is down the road. I have no money and plenty of life on these tires, so I'll be rolling on these well into the lift.

Wheels are "meh".

33x10.5 is a good tire size. "Pizza cutters" are what I'm eventually going to run on the XJ. Go for the KM2s. It's about the next best thing to the Goodyear Wrangler MTRs. They don't sell those in 33x10.5 otherwise that would be my tire choice.

Don't forget CL is your friend...Nobody said you had to buy new. I got a steal of (4) 31x10.5 BFG ATs mounted on cragar windows with 85% tread + a 5th wheel for like $500.

Not sure what the Yota guys do but if they're like jeep people they're probably changing shoes all the time.

I feel like without some sort of disconnect you're going to be missing out on a lot of flex... :dunno:

Can't be any more sketchy than an xj running NO swaybars..Ask me how I know.. Confusedhock:

Only reason I chose the wheels is because another guy on TW with the truck as me runs them and they look good and they're the perfect backspacing. Off course I have been and will be scouring Craigslist.

I'll see once I get new shocks and springs. I really would not want to drive with no sway bar right now. Maybe once everything is stiffer with the new suspension I'll see.

I would imagine you would be missing a huge amount of flex. You would at least need to extend the links wouldn't you? I don't know about toyotas but on Jeeps you usually get some sort of extended disconnectable link for the bar. I made my own for the XJ's front and deleted the rear bar. On my JK I ran mopar disconnects on the front and extended links on the rear.

Also, I probably can't afford the KM2s but we'll see. Hopefully I can find a good CL deal.

Here's that guy's Taco.

Doing some work in the parking lot at school :/ Had a cop stop and ask me if I was broke down, haha.
Finally got around to changing the fluid in my front diff (downside of a 4x4). By far the hardest drain plug I've tried to break loose. Took about an hour of PB blaster, beat with a hammer, ratchet, hit ratchet with hammer, repeat forever. Too bad I don't have a breaker bar...

Also touched up some of the trail damage on my main skidplate.

Realized after I drained it (50% in my rigged up milk jug catch pan, 50% on the R1 parking lot), I remembered I need 1.6 quarts of fluid. I only had around that much, so I had to be careful.

This is the biggest piece of medal on the magnet after I cleaned it some, does that look bad? The plug is pretty big, so it makes it look small.

My harbor freight transfer pump starting to leak out of every possible place as I was pumping so It made a huge mess, but I somehow ended up with the perfect amount to fill it up.

As soon as I'm torquing down the fill plug I get a call from Sam saying his 240's battery died. So I throw my 219308213 (read: 2) skid plates back on and rush over there.

MM equipment manager to the rescue.

Also continuing my trend of teaching people the CORRECT way to jump a car. Haha. Gotta ground out that cable on the jumped vehicle, not hook it to the battery.

Ordered a front diff drop kit from a guy on TacomaWorld because they're originally $40 or so and he was asking $20 shipped.

Still debating on whether I want to run it. CV angles get pretty bad with more than 3 inches of lift and I'm going for about 2 3/4 of lift.. Installing this also means my skid plate and most aftermarket ones will no longer fit either...

Thoughts?

sylvia has never run KM2s, but the General Grabber AT2s she got 50k plus miles out of and did her pretty well while wheeling. A lot of the other jeep guys were impressed with sidewall flex and strength.

she went even cheaper (because they were on sale) and got the Goodyear Authority tires at walmart lol... they did really well in the last snow and we will see how well they do aired down the next time we go to rausch creek. they are pretty beefy lugged but got mixed reviews over all.

^ Looking at that tread pattern, aired down they should prove decent grip on rock/mud.

How's the wear on those Authorities? Honestly, I'm leaning to 60/40 road use/wear to offroad capabilities.

Thanks, man! I don't mind road noise THAT much. Unless is a ridiculous howl. My Rugged Terrains are the most quiet tire ever.

Met up with some TacomaWorld people after work and hit some mud holes for an hour or two, then everyone split.

Kind of scary to find out that you have 5 lbs of mud in your front driverside wheel going 65...
