I didn't think anyone was actually paying attention and I spent most of last week deathly ill. Tongue

It was a failing alternator. There was enough charge not to trip the warning light, but not enough to power the fuel pump under load. I ended up in a bit of a battle with the shop I took it to because they tacked on a few part upgrades in the quote without telling me what they were doing. They basically said "yeah, it'll be X to replace it" when in reality they weren't doing like for like. In the end, I got the upgraded part (internal regulator) for 30% off their originally quoted price. It was still too high though.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Part Porsche, part that shop is blingy. There's a guy a bit farther up north that could have done it 40% cheaper than what I paid. I couldn't get a hold of him when I was having the car towed, so I took it to the place by my house. Knowing what I know now, I should have towed it to my house and then re-towed to his shop when he could look at it. Of course, that probably meant we would be living as a true one-car family for a week or two.... which isn't a huge problem, just not terribly convenient.

I decided to remove the quick release hub in favor of reinstalling the horn. I commute in the car 1-2x/week and it's a bit uncomfortable being such a small car with no way to make people aware of my presence. I liked the security of the QR, but I only ever took the wheel off when I was going out of town. On the bright side, I can probably get close to what I paid ($280) for it.

Good move. I hated not having a horn in the Civic. It's just a car. If you had built it yourself, different story, but it's replaceable. Might as well fully enjoy it and not count on someone stealing it.

I've taken to putting the car on a Batter Tender. The current battery is the one that got hosed when the alternator went bad. It needs to be replaced, but I'm waiting on Optima certs from my dad for a freebie. Big Grin It almost stranded me a few weeks ago, but I managed to get it started and home. It's pretty strong on a charge, so I plug it in when I'm not going to drive the car for a few days.

Also, It was a nice day... so I took a couple photos.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I put gas in this thing for the first time since February 2015 and in that time I drove 127 miles. There was a long time that my back was so jacked that I couldn't even get in/out of the car. At some point in there the front right caliper got stuck and then the wife got pregnant and had a kid. It eventually got to a point that the tires dropped down around 16 psi and I had to get air in the tires. I ordered one of those portable air compressors back in February, but never got motivated to take it to my preferred shop. Because logistics. There's a shop with some pretty nice vintage race cars a few doors down from my gym, so I finally pulled the trigger on having them do a once over. That appointment is next week, so hopefully it'll be good to go for the summer.

So, yeah. 127 miles in 26 months. At least I started it every week?

And people say I don't drive mine.

Glad to see her getting some attention, I wonder if you'll need to have the carbs rebuilt after running it on old gas.

Got the car back today. The front brakes has one seized piston and one that was well on its way to being seized, so both were replaced. There were a few other minor things that needed to be addressed, but nothing worth talking about. The car actually feels quicker now that the brakes are dragging.
