Project: 1976 911S - Apoc - 03-17-2013 Given the full restoration that's already been done, I'm not sure this qualifies as a "project" but whatever. Full story: http://chris.derecola.com/2013/03/a-por ... ily-again/ Full gallery: http://derecola.com/archives/1976-911/ It started life as a 912E and had ~50k miles on it before it was completely gutted, rebuilt and upgraded with a 2.7 L 911S engine. Given the only real difference between the 912 and 911 of the era was the engine, it’s now titled as a 911S. It’s got a bit under 6k miles on the rebuild, so it’s about as fresh as you’re going to find a 37 year old car. The Plan -remove front plate holder -panoramic rear view mirror or right side mirror (see below) -window tint, maybe (requires both mirrors, by law) -airbag, maybe ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Re: Project: 1976 911S - BLINGMW - 03-18-2013 GREEN! Apoc Wrote:-airbag, maybeAs in, an aftermarket driver's airbag? That sounds pretty crazy. Explain. Re: Project: 1976 911S - Evan - 03-18-2013 I dig it. On an unrelated note, Im all of the sudden in the mood to eat something lime flavored.... Re: Project: 1976 911S - Apoc - 03-18-2013 BLINGMW Wrote:GREEN! I'd seen some info on retrofitting from a newer 911, but I can't seem to find it. It's likely to be entirety too expensive to do it without it being dangerous... I need to do more research. I really just threw it out there as a list of possibilities. The paint is the original color (for the 912). It's called Speedway or Ascot Green. I can't say I went looking for it, but it's definitely better than the most of the 1970's brown ones out there for sale. It's grown on me; party because everyone has a reaction (good or bad) to it. Re: Project: 1976 911S - FlaakCM - 03-18-2013 so beast Re: Project: 1976 911S - Goodspeed - 03-18-2013 Nice! I dig the color, I'd love it with the wheel centers black and maybe the "Carrera" script on the rockers. Apoc Wrote:BLINGMW Wrote:GREEN! I've seen some cars (including older Porsches) with these pimpy RAID airbag steering wheels as well, might be an option. I'm guessing that you'd have to take into account the factory airbag-less seating position and belt too? Re: Project: 1976 911S - Apoc - 03-18-2013 Good spot on the black wheels, especially since the window frames are black vs. chrome. I could probably swap them pretty cheaply. When the car is here, maybe someone can do a photochop for me. I'm not sure the Carrera would be appropriate, given it doesn't have a rear wing... but I do like the way this looks. Re: Project: 1976 911S - V1GiLaNtE - 03-18-2013 Gorgeous car. I'll admit I have a soft spot for older 911's. I imagine this thing is pure bliss running through the gears. Congrats! Re: Project: 1976 911S - premiershine9 - 03-18-2013 This is awesome. Got to work on and drive an 86 Turbo and since then I've been hooked on the older models. Bravo, this is aweseome - Dan Re: Project: 1976 911S - Jake - 03-18-2013 Mmm. I love everything about this. Especially the color. Re: Project: 1976 911S - BLINGMW - 03-18-2013 Goodspeed Wrote:I'm guessing that you'd have to take into account the factory airbag-less seating position and belt too?Yeah I'm not sure I could ever feel good about this aftermarket mount-explosives-in-front-of-my-face idea. :| Anyway, cool car  Re: Project: 1976 911S - ScottyB - 03-18-2013 i lust for these cars. great color, and i think the narrow bodies look awesome too. Project: 1976 911S - JPolen01 - 03-18-2013 +1 on the color Re: Project: 1976 911S - CaptainHenreh - 03-18-2013 Looks fantastic! Re: Project: 1976 911S - JPolen01 - 03-18-2013 Apoc Wrote:I'm not sure the Carrera would be appropriate, given it doesn't have a rear wing... but I do like the way this looks.I can probably make you a DIY kit of this for a good price. PM if you're interested. Re: Project: 1976 911S - premiershine9 - 03-18-2013 X2 on the Carrera livery
Re: Project: 1976 911S - ispoonwithmugen - 03-18-2013 Yummy, I dig the color too! Re: Project: 1976 911S - Apoc - 03-19-2013 There's something cool about levers, especially the one on the floor, to control heat. With no AC, I don't think I could ever own this thing on the east coast. ![]()
Re: Project: 1976 911S - ScottyB - 03-19-2013 did the 944 have floor-mount pedals too, or is this a first for you? how does it feel? i've heard its a love/hate thing. Re: Project: 1976 911S - Apoc - 03-19-2013 You mean like floor mounted reversed pedals? Both this car and the 944 are the stock bulkhead type. Are you seeing something different? |
