I don't recall Jake's purchase story but i'm sort of betting he wasn't looking at the bottom of the market trying to spend under $2k. I think its been said before, maybe in this thread, if you try to buy a car you can't really afford (at the time), you're going to have a bad time.

I spent $5300 and got a car with two past owners, pristine paint and 72k miles.

Taylor, hopefully the woman trying to sell you the red one isn't flaking and just had life get in the way. You'd think she could manage a quick text or call, but who knows. If her mom has some medical issues, it's possible some emergency happened and she was dealing with that. I wouldn't give up hope. Definitely do keep looking though.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Doesn't seem too bad.

"Some dings and rust spots" - stay away if he won't send you photos and descriptions of the rust.

That's how I ended up with a swiss-cheese'd E36 328i. It was listed as "needs minor body work" and my hungover ass was too full of headaches and remnants of tequila to bother laying in the snow and looking under the car. Oops. :roll:

Yeah, sounds terrible to say, but I'm hoping in the back of my mind that something did come up and she wouldn't just ignore me like that. She seemed very nice. I'll shoot her another text today.

Had a guy PM me on Miata.net and he just sent me some pictures. He's in NC and he says it's his GF's daughters car. Says it needs tires (he may have some to throw on it) and he needs to put the thermostat housing neck back on. Why it's off, I don't know, nor do I know why he hasn't put it on. I'm not a big fan of these "Easy to fix once you buy it" type things. I'm awaiting more pictures.

I don't have any CL ads you probably haven't already seen, but I'll be damned if this isn't the biggest group effort to find someone a car I've ever seen. :thumbup:

have you talked to that guy with the rare hidden lights and the 1.8 swap? I'm partial to that on paper. looks properly done, you've got probably $400 in new tires on it and it's in town. if you can come up to $23-2500 and get it for that it seems like it'd be a good, hopefully trouble free deal.

If you went into my g-mail and searched for the word "Craigslist" or "Miata", you computer would explode. I've been e-mailing and texting so many people right now that each time I get a message, I have to look back to remember which one we're talking about.

Fun fact, all of the 1.6L white cars will have paint peel eventually. The paint didn't adhere to the primer very well and comes off over time.

Figured I'd mention it since the one you posted has a spot missing on the hood.

It could be an alright car if you got stock (or non ghettofab) wheels back on it, removed the stick-on pinstripe and gave it a really thorough cleaning. I'd want to know why it was taken off the road though. Looks like it's been sitting for a long time.

It could be a good car that's just sat for six months because it blew a thermostat and winter really sucked this year. Worth hearing his explanation.

What you said about the paint has me concerned. That seems like a huge problem if all of the paint is going to fall off.

Probably some older guy who can't be bothered to use the camera on his dagnabbit Android that his daughter gave him because it requires reading glasses and he doesn't have time for that.

He works night shift and is asleep right now. He apparently is the DJ of Miatas and has like 5 of them. He said he can throw on one of his three sets of stock wheels and is going to clean it up this week.

- Timing belt done at 100,000 miles

I told him if the rest of the pictures come out fine, I'll be down in after finals to look.

I always wanted a white NA too. Actually the only color I didn't like was red, so naturally I bought one.
