College Solo Invitational - September 19

G.Irish Wrote:Well if we really want to win maybe we should pitch in and buy some r-comps to put on a car that is classed well and get 2 people (or more) codriving that car. Or if someone has a car that is well prepared for a street tire class, just get a good set of street tires on it.

After the event is over we could always sell the tires and redistribute the proceeds back to those that chipped in.

Unfortunately we really dont have a car thats fit well in a class. All are heavily underprepped as far as I know in their perspective classes. Ive even offered a few poeple that I would pay the entire season's worth of tires if someone wanted to compaign an SCCA competitive car and go to Nationals, but everything has fallen on deaf ears. :dunno:

I'm so in for this, remember that autocross we had last year with like 18 MM drivers? We need to go big for this one. WTF big, get the whole goshdang club out there, if not to drive then to hang out and show support.

My friend mentioned that having a spot either saturday or sunday to take pictures of the college cars, each from their own college and maybe a total picture of everyone's cars in a Car and Driver Lightning Lap like setup (cars are stacked like in a parking lot 4xwhatever....)

Good call... that would be so cool. Probably Sunday, since some won't be at the BBQ. We'll have to figure that out.

I like to win as much as the next guy but I think I like the DavidM scoring theory. Something along those lines will allow a club that can mid-place 10 cars to kill a club that purpose builds two cars to end up with a killer average.

Irregardless (<--to give you grammar folks a twitch), I think MM needs to have a big showing and we should encourage people to bring out their cars and run even if they are poorly classed, prepped or just not even well suited to turning.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...

For this year my car's still solidly in STS, and depending on the date when my friend is getting back from Iraq I might be able to give you a co-drive. I've promised him a co-drive upon his return and he's getting back in Sept. or Oct, so I'll have to check with him. Car is a little lightly sprung, but locally competitive.
No matter how competitive we all are (I'd really love to beat VT but their alumni are tough to beat), just all do me one favor...don't go nuts with the tire shine before the autocross....it's not exactly a traction aid

^^ Thatd be awesome, just let me know!

Also have we come up with scoring? We could always not say how we will be scoring prior to the event, and then decide that the top 6 of each College get AVGed their RAW or PAX (I like raw better, thats what she said), and if they dont have 6 cars, it still is an avg of their cars. That way no matter how many cars participate we get a single number and it encourages colleges to bring more people. We could also say that if you dont have 6 cars, for each car missing you must avg in one "median" score for the entire field for every car missing. That way they dont just bring one ridiculously fast car and have one entry and skew the results.

BRR will still be doing traditional classes since this is an event for them, too. So you can win your class if that's where you want to focus.

Ray has an idea for how to calculate each school's fastest times - it will be an average for each school (guessing PAX time instead of raw) but we haven't talked 100% details yet.

And yep, you're an alumni representing JMU and MM, so your times will count for the college portion of things as well as regular BRR.

Here is the way the North Carolina clubs do it for the club championship at the NCAC. The average PAX time of the top 80% of the drivers from each club count. Lowest score wins. I think that is a good system that I know works. That said, I won't dictate the method, but here are some guidelines. You shouldn't have to be a Math major to understand the scoring system. You should be able to calculate the results within 15 minutes of the end of the event using only a pencil and paper. If you can't do that, then it is too complicated
