College Solo Invitational - September 19
#1
Posting this early so you alumni's can plan your weekends now.

Basically, Ray Schumin approached me a while back and said "We have the Verona lot in September, we want to do a college autocross, and we want you and MM to plan it."

So, here's what we're doing. The actual event is Sunday, September 19th at the Government Center as usual. Since most people will be coming from far away - and the early Sunday morning drive will suck - we'll host a BBQ on Saturday afternoon/evening and find couches and floor space for people to crash on.

Schools invited so far - Virginia Tech, UVA, Old Dominion, William & Mary, VCU, and George Mason. I haven't heard back from VCU yet, but everyone else has replied with a "yes, we're definitely interested" sort of thing.

There is a Facebook event here, and the other details are on our site here.
If you want to come down on Saturday and BBQ/trash talk/crash on someone's couch, you need to register - do that here.

I will post the link to MotorsportReg once the BRR guys make it available.

BRR will still be doing traditional classes since this is an event for them, too. So you can win your class if that's where you want to focus.

Ray has an idea for how to calculate each school's fastest times - it will be an average for each school (guessing PAX time instead of raw) but we haven't talked 100% details yet.

And yep, you're an alumni representing JMU and MM, so your times will count for the college portion of things as well as regular BRR.

Your more than welcome to co-drive mine if we decide to, but if they are going by PAX time, im going to try to find another ride, my car is very badly classed in SCCA due to carpet removal. I am in E prepared. Anyone's car fairly well prepped for an SCCA class?

Youd need some hoo-hoos or V710s to be competitive, and even thats tough. I dont know what shows up to blueridge, but the SRT4-ACR and Genesis 2.0T are in that class...

Kyle - Yes, you can run as part of JMU.

DJ - Added Liberty U to the BBQ registration list this morning and I have David's registration for that already.

Registration for the Saturday BBQ and the Sunday AX are two different links. BBQ is up now, AX will be up whenever Ray posts it to MotorsportReg.

Integra got bumped to H-Stock this year, unless you have a GS-R

So in, depending on registration we should think about scoring 5 deep per class, say 8-5-3-2-1, where only the top 2 drivers for a particular school can score and see who gets the most points. Of course that would only work if everyone brought 12-15 cars...which maybe isn't likely.

I looked at the season points of HS and people there have only done 1 event or so, and all were on all-seasons or at the max 1 was on Kumho XS. The integra should be alright, and have a great pax score because of being in HS, just drive your ass off and you'll be good!

Well if we really want to win maybe we should pitch in and buy some r-comps to put on a car that is classed well and get 2 people (or more) codriving that car. Or if someone has a car that is well prepared for a street tire class, just get a good set of street tires on it.

After the event is over we could always sell the tires and redistribute the proceeds back to those that chipped in.

This is a very smart idea. I think the most competitive car in the club might have been David L's STX WRX, and I hear that is gone now :-(
