RJ, want to show everyone your thigh-gina?
Definitely NSFW, although perhaps I can make myself a money shot dollar bill toga.... watch out for the beanbag slipping out.

Went out to Bend, OR last weekend for a wedding and rented a bike to ride with some of the local wedding attendees. (With strict instructions to make sure the groom didnt break his collarbone the morning of his wedding)
We hit a trail called 'Lower Whoops' outside of town that was one of the top 3 trails I've ever ridden... 2 miles of downhill flow trail - rollers, berms and tabletops - just an absolute blast! Rode it four times over the course of the weekend and I think my face is still sore from smiling and laughing the whole way down. One of those perfect trails where a group could ride and you can push as much as you want (no gap lines, can hit alternate side rollers vs larger tabletops). Highly highly recommend if anyone is ever out in the area....

God I love flow trails. I want to ride BC so bad.
Race Results:
This past weekend I raced my "first" mountain bike race. I've done one other race, but that was 2 years ago. This is my first race after getting back onto a mountain bike 5 months ago and consistently riding. Poca Go! was an enduro style race. Basically timed downhill stages connected by XC/fire roads. No timing was done on the connector portions. It was a great experience overall and all of the proceeds benefited Pocahontas State Park and a much needed parking lot expansion. I think we raised over $7,000!
I raced the beginner male category and placed 4th out of 33 racers. Just missing out on the 3rd place podium by 20 seconds overall time! My total race time was a 16:00.9. First place posted a 15:03.8. Out of the 158 people who raced in total I placed 24th overall.
I'm really, really pleased with my results! I was definitely faster than some of the expert category racers. I'm sure they would have crushed me if the whole race was timed, but it was cool to see the results after just 5 months of being back in the saddle. I'm looking forward to another race soon!
(I have the the deadest eyes when it comes to riding... )

"Enduro-style XC MTB race to be held on the single-track flow trails and XC trails at Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield, VA. This race will involve multiple timed stages on downhill portions of the Swift Creek trail system with non-timed transfer segments in between. Racers will start in 30 second increments."

Go ride climbs for a month and I think you'll change your mind. We tend to avoid things we don't like..
It was fun bombing a lot of those trails on a 6 year old XC race bike, but I couldn't help think how 120mm+ of travel front/rear would make it that much more fun...
I've wanted to do an enduro race for like 2 years now. Most races out here seem to have a climb that would possibly kill me even untimed haha. Have a great bike for it too just need to get my conditioning in check. Plan on riding a lot in the mornings this fall now that I'm going to be working remote again and it's not 90+ by 10am.
I THINK The endurance thing was september 28 and it was a 6/13 hour event.

Anyone going to Snowshoe for the DH World Cup race this weekend?? Ill be up on Saturday to check things out

Finally did my first DH race! Snowshoe put on a "Pedals & Pints" and I had to be out of the house for showings all weekend so I figured why not. It was supposed to be a relatively chill race (pretty rowdy but short black line into a flowy blue line) but the rain made it VERY interesting the whole way down. Trails were an absolute mess all day Saturday for practice. They weren't too bad for the race run as some of it got packed down but still super sketchy in a lot of spots. Mud caked tires don't really stop on mud and especially on wet roots. Coming in too hot was a guaranteed wreck. Played it safe, only went about 75% and had to dive off the trail twice to let 2 faster riders go by. Still managed to not get last and was within a minute of most of my group on a 7+ minute course. Did really well on the steep stuff but was absolutely gassed halfway down which is also where it flattened out and actually required some pedaling. My heart was pounding before I even took the initial drop in so that didn't help either. Was an absolute blast though. Highly recommend it next year if you're looking to take the DH plunge.
Was hoping to get a cool shot coming off one of the drops or flying through one of the rock gardens but I caught the photographer at the berms. Oh well still cool, at least you can't see I'm absolutely dead here.
The BEST part though was watching little dude finally start pedaling. He made a friend while I was practicing and they were hitting a little pump track by the lift. We just brought the balance bike so I grabbed him a 20" rental and promised him some riding armor he really wanted if he could learn to ride it. He was hesitant at first and wanted to ditch the pedals for what was easy but I knew if he just got the start down he'd be golden. He already bombs down hills on his balance bike with 0 fear and coasts for days. So we practiced that on Saturday before the lightening shut everything down. Was trying not to be too bummed the weather was being a pain and when I came back from my early Sunday run I caught him looping around the gravel road by the lift and taking off. Easily the best moment of the weekend and that alone made the trip worth it.
Now I gotta find him one of these because the Target bike just isn't going to do. The fat tires and gears really help a ton. Kinda sucks there's a nation-wide shortage going down and I just sold my trail bike but gotta keep the momentum going. If I gotta drive a couple hours to pick one up or pay wayyyy too much for Commencal Clash (only thing I really found in stock that doesn't suck) it's gonna happen.
Way too much bike for him at the moment but considering I do live 10 minutes from some great green trails, perfect riding weather is here and especially since I just sold my last bike for about what I paid for: I'm half tempted to just pull the $1,900 trigger if it comes to it. Going to check the local shops first but I don't have high hopes here.
I didn't know so many people were into mountain biking. The wife and I have really gotten into it over the past year or so; tons of maintained MB trails that run out of our neighborhood in Cville.

Shameless plug. Ryan and I's lease ended in Richmond so I decided to pack my bags and move around for a bit to work and ride. Currently located in Basye with plans to hit Roanoke next month and then headed cross-country in lieu of my New Zealand plans that were canceled for December. Been slowly working through video editing to keep a log of fun rides.

Hitting Pickleback for the first time is magical. I'm an idiot and didn't bother rolling anything, just sent all the drops because "they looked good". It's a miracle I don't fucked myself up more. That last drop in your Bryce video looked like a definite code brown haha. Nothing worse than feeling the bike slowly drift away from you in the air, good save!

Going to Kanuga this weekend. Really stoked to try out an e-bike for the first time and the park looks amazing. Of course it's looking like rain all weekend because I can't ever travel and ride without that. Hopefully everything doesn't end up too soupy, I really want to hit some of those jumps. They look so smooth compared to what's out here.
Probably had one of my best rides to date on Sunday out on Massanutten. Just rode good, hit some lines I normally wouldn't and managed to clear a few of the smaller jumps on Creamy for the first time. Just been so stressed with working on the house and selling/buying it just felt really good to be out there and just send it. Haven't been in that kind of mood in a while, I mostly just half-ass ride blues for fun when I'm out there. Playing hooky a bit to get there for an extended lunch break, really going to miss being able to do that.
