I did a local weekender trip 2 weeks ago that was more mileage, 1/3 the elevation and nearly all flowy park singletrack & paved/canal trail and it was a breeze, rolling into camp at 2-3pm. On this route even the descending was tough and slow in a lot of parts . We camped downstream of panther falls on the 2nd day if you know the area.
I've been wanting to do some bikepacking on the C&O for years now. Need to get my ass up there and just do it.
I'll go with you.... summer is a great time IMO, you can pack pretty light & fast when you dont need much and sleep in a hammock.

Finally got out this past weekend. Only went over the bars twice (first time in a while) and both times my handlebars pinned my left leg to the frame so I went along for the full ride. Landed a really weird position the first time too and couldn't get out of the fucking leg-lock my bike had me in for a good minute or 2. My weight on the front tire was pinning my leg but I couldnt get off the bike because my leg was pinned. Good times.
Blue lines are still fun and easy especially downhill. Still can't really tackle the more technical black lines on the Western slopes. Just too many damn rocks.

There are soooooo many nice hidden campsites out in the GWNF, Monongahela, etc.... stocked trout waters... just saying.

I tend to keep track of those nice campsites... I'd totally do a bike-packing trip soon. I got some time at the end of August or end of September.

Tried GoPro recording of an easy trail known as "poop loop" in the area. This trail I had to walk some when I first started. Now it's easy.
Some lol moments of my left foot slipping off pedal and the pedal smacking my shin along with a couple of rear tire slides from a combination of muddy rear tire/novice rider skill
Highlights of the more flow-y parts of the trail
Like I said easy trail now, but it's a fun one that I just need to practice more speed!
Dead serious if someone wants to go glamping for a fall overnight trip mountain biking.
I suck so you’ll have to deal with that.

IN, I'm fat and out of shape so there's that. Also if anyone wants to ride out at Massanutten at either the park or the single track you can crash at my place in my spare room. I need more motivation to get out riding more.

What kinda shoes are you wearing? Definitely invest in some decent riding shoes at some point. I reluctantly bought a pair of Five Tens ($125) after getting somewhat serious at the bike park and it made a huge difference. Probably don't have to make that kind of invest for a while but it's worth checking out some deals on other brands. I'd occasionally lose a pedal going over some the rougher rock gardens but with those I can barely even adjust my damn foot they grip so well and they're super stiff.

Time for a good laugh. Don't know trail as it was my first time. I was also tired. Mistakes were made
In all seriousness this was my first full over handle bar. Glad I cut the handle bars last second and used my shoulder/hip to take the hit. Scratches and bruises on both for a reminder. Usually I jump off, but my right foot wasn't set on the pedal.... Always be sure you are ready to wreck I think is the main thing to think about here and lesson learned. Silly mistakes can be made at any moment just be prepared. I would of jumped off left to the uphill

There were so many times last night where I would wait at a likely stopping point and think to myself "Ah fuck he wrecked...." or I was waiting to hear the sound of screeching brakes followed by a "OHHHH SHIIIITTTTT"
Note: I still eat shit from time to time.

Amazing soundtrack. Wasn't too bad.
I crash a bunch on the mtb. Falling usually doesn't hurt as bad as road.

Only way to learn and get faster is to get on the more technical stuff. Gotta just learn by fire. I'm surprised I don't wreck more myself or the other times I have wrecked have been handled well especially with the noobness level on two wheels that I'm at.
I just take it slow. I'll walk if I struggle or am tired. This time was just mental error. It happens. All for fun laughs if nothing serious happens. I'm sure in a few months I'll be moving pretty good I hope.

Yes, thankfully I take it slow and downhill speed was only minor. GoPro makes it hard to see steepness of hills. Shit still hurt and is hurting today, but glad it wasn't worse with more speed
If you want to ride better, to take a clinic/class. Makes a big difference.

solid laugh out of that one. nice form, 9.5/10 on the dismount.
if it makes you feel any better, one time i got the bottom bracket stuck on a log i was trying to clear, fell off to the side, and rolled all the way down a hill into a river. and not like, a crispy mountain river, it was a disgusting city river probably full of toxic waste and various forms of tapeworm. good times
