Project DD moonlighting as trail rig
You're about 6 months late. I sold the same car with almost 100k less miles on it for like the same price with brand new tires. Actually, I may have gotten $2k for it.

Yeah dude, Just Say No to the Eta. Redline is 4,500 rpm and it made something like 110 hp when new.

I hated mine because the motor and car were collectively a giant turd, but I've driven an '87 Eta in near-perfect nick and it still mostly sucked.

Matt, I posted on that thread and literally said "Too bad this isn't a few months from now, or this would be perfect for me" haha. What's your opinion on the one I posted? As long as it's not losing oil, isn't full of rust, clutch isn't gone, etc. How much life would the vtec have?

And thanks, Jake.

CaptainHenreh Wrote:The ETA is a DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOG. It's no joke, man. Real talk, I'd rather have a 318is than a 325e.

I told Jake that before he bought the stupid eta, but someone decided they wanted "torque"... which an eta doesn't really produce either.

Senor_Taylor Wrote:The other Matt is saying the same. I don't doubt that's true. It just depends on the degree of how right y'all are that is what concerns me. I don't mind something being slower if it still handles the same as a normal 325 AND I can flip it and get my money back. The last part is most important.

It sounds like you've already decided against the car but I'm going to pile my 2 cents worth on anyway. If you buy that BMW you will end up sobbing yourself to sleep at night, a poor and broken man. $2500 is not a flippable price for an ETA sedan, if he was selling it for like $750 then it might be worth looking into. The fact that it "runs fine" and has good tires makes me suspicious as to what else is wrong with the car, otherwise he wouldn't be trying to sell it with a dead inspection sticker. It also has a broken temperature gauge which is like the one thing you *really* need on a BMW.

Also, coming from a Toyota truck, the same bloodline of truck that was so unkillable on Top Gear it outlived the show itself, a BMW's ability to break expensive shit would blow your little socks off. In a matter of months you'd have a receding hairline and stress wrinkles.

Is a Miata off the list? It's the wrong time of year to buy one but I still think that's the best option for you, even if you end up with a finicky piece of crap (Miatas are not as bomb proof as the internet would have you believe), it takes dirt cheap parts and it's stupid easy to work on.

I got this car looking like this and driving fairly well for a total cost of $1,336. It needed shocks to firm it up but they only would've been a couple hundred bucks.

+1 to everything Joey said.

The Eta cars make about the same torque as the 325i's do... 170ish, I think. But, they are down on HP (110 vs 170) so uh, they really suck.

Miatas are cheap-ish to buy, cheap-ish to run, very simple to work on, cheap-ish aftermarket, etc etc.

I REALLY want a Miata. I dream about having a Miata (seriously) like 4 times a week. I just haven't found any great deals. I would prefer to spend under $2000 so I can have some wiggle room to fix it up over the summer, but I haven't seen a single one pop up that was a good price. It may sound impatient, but I'm really at the point where if a good deal pops up, I want to jump at it. I've been telling everyone I know to keep an eye open for a killer deal for me. I'm just worried that prices will shoot up over the summer.

I dont know much about Honda's but that one you posted would probably be fine if it was taken care of. Its a civic though so it probably wasnt but youd really have to look at it i guess. The biggest problem with mine was a trans bearing which i fixed myself and i think now it needs motor mounts and window regulators and some other stuff but nothing major really went wrong with it. It did tear a brand new cv axle's boot though. Not sure why other than maybe cause i used the cheapest axle i could find.

But i bought it as a beater. Im not sure how much fun it really was to drive.

You're too late, especially for a Miata. Prices are going to be way up this time of year, you need to buy a Miata between october and january.

That said, this is a decent price. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/c...10748.html

I sold my '90 for $2,750 with 56k and both rear quarters rusted out.

Depending on the condition of the paint, headliner, and if it has a defroster or not (early ones did not) you can sell a hardtop for up to $1k.

I'm actually talking to Scott about buying his. The only problem is I start making mad money right around June, so none of these deals will be around and the prices will be way higher. Someone has to be wrong with that Jersey one.

Edit: I really like this one. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://smd.craigslist.org/cto/4950988141.html">http://smd.craigslist.org/cto/4950988141.html</a><!-- m --> , but it'll probably be gone before I had a chance to go look at it. If I could get these Shocks sold, I'd have the money right now. I want something near stock so I can do the work. I've been looking at Craigslist south of Harrisonburg since I'm from Lynchburg. MD is a 4 hour drive from there, but if I can get it during Finals week...

So, for a while now, at around 60-70 mph I've been getting a whirring noise and a slight pulsing vibration. I think it might be a wheel bearing, but I don't have any movement at the wheels when I grab them and push/pull. I don't really have the money to do them right now nor do I have the tools to do it myself. When's the point to call it quits and park it?

Any play in the rear driveshaft or cv axles?

When is the last time your tires were balanced/rotated?
  Reply
I'm due for a rotation right now, which has been my #2 thought on what's happening, but it's really not any tire noise I've heard before. Tire rotation/balance is scheduled for Thursday.

No play that's any more than I've ever had. I've always had a really bad shake/vibe at ~20 MPH from my driveshaft angle at the carrier bearing.
