GM order accepted on 2/4!
Should have a build date and VIN in a few weeks. My brother hooked me up with a Friends and Family BoA connection so I was able to snag GM supplier pricing plus whatever incentives they have on delivery day. Made the negotiating process a lot easier
Options:
2016 GMC Canyon SLE 4WD Crew Cab Short Box
Onyx Black
All Terrain Package:
- Off Road Suspention (Z71?)
- Auto Locking Rear Differential
- Hill Decent Control and Gear Hold
- Underbody Skid Plate
- Some body colored visual components
- Jet black / Cobalt Red "cloth" interior with "carbon fiber" leather seat bolsters and "carbon fiber" trim package
- 17" Dark Argent wheels
- Front Recovery Hooks
- Heated front seats
- Some power options to front seats, not memory though and manual recline
SLE Convenience Package:
- Auto climate control (single zone)
- Remote Start
- Sliding Rear Window
Other individual options:
Bose and Navigation upgrade (8" screen with IntelliLink, 4G connectivity and Apple / Android CarPlay)
Factory Trailering Package (to future proof it for me)
Factory Spray In Bedliner (because it looks really nice vs aftermarket and has a lifetime warranty)
Other cool things:
EZ-Lift and Lower tailgate (doesn't slam down when you open it and can be positioned with the cables that hold it up to aim the backup camera down on the hitch)
Auto engaging 4WD that can also be manually selected
Just realized it also has Automatic Cruise Control, that is interesting
Anyway super stoked!! I keep telling myself I won't buy another black car, and then I buy 2 more black cars. It's the best looking color on the Canyon imo. Also had to sacrifice some amenities from a bigger truck like the Sierra, but I don't need a big truck (the Sierra has also been having drivetrain issues) and this thing if I measured right still fits perfectly in my garage. Delivery schedule right now is about 8-10 weeks so I might get it right before my birthday
This thread will probably be less of a project thread and more of a chronicle of owning another GM car (which I said I never would after my Cadillac). But everything I hear and everything I've read about GMC trucks is that they are the ones you want long term. Hopefully "they" are right

Let me preface this with: Please spare me the peanut gallery comments. Serious thread, cash in hand, in short:
![[Image: 63131946.jpg]](http://cdn.meme.am/instances/250x250/63131946.jpg)
Wanted:
Inexpensive reliable "beater".
My fiancée's twin sisters are currently auto-less, and rely on bumming rides for transportation to and from school, work, etc. My life would be much easier if they had a car to call their own, so I thought I'd see if the MM search engine heard any rumors or lies about possible options.
Here's the Req's:
Automatic: they can't drive stick, don't want to learn, fucks given: 0
Reliable: If they get stranded, I'll feel bad. I want something that requires as little attention as possible. Looking for a cat: Keep food and water filled, litterbox empty. Not Dog, take out every day, brush, feed, play, cuddle, etc.
Cheap: They're college students.
Preferences:
4 doors are better than 2.
Four cylinders are better than 6.
Fuel efficient is better than Not.
Front wheels are better than rear wheels.
So I'm kind of thinking early 2000's Front-Drive Lex, Acura, Honda, Toyota, Basic Beige Standard Transportation Module A.
If anyone stumbles across anything, please let me know.
Thanks,
Rex

Emily got a promotion and will start working remotely 100% of the time come April. I've been asking and asking for details for months with no answer. Finally got some paperwork today. They are providing her a laptop, monitor, phone, and chair. We must provide Internet access. Seeing as how they arent picking up any of the tab for this I am assuming I can write off a portion of the electricity and Internet bills next tax season. Am I correct? Anyone have experience with this?

Was just mulling over the idea of selling the Ape and getting something new to tide me over until Honda gets its act together on the whole-V4-superbike-that-I-can-afford deal. I'd be using the bike pretty much the same way I do now, for commuting and track days.
I really wanted to check out the F3 when I got the Ape but there weren't any in stock nearby and I didn't feel like waiting. Now there's the F3 800 that shouldn't feel like I'm giving up too much power and is a gorgeous machine. I have to admit I kind of want another bike with a single-sided swingarm.

The R1 is kind of the logical choice if I want to stick with a 1000 cc supersport. I love how the crossplane-4 sounds, I really like the high spec equipment on the R1, and the traction control is supposedly really good. Certainly would be easier to get service on a R1 if I need it, and there are a lot of aftermarket parts. Could get it in the bumblebee paint scheme too.
The H2 is the ridiculous choice but just the same it would be cool to try something out that I can slap a pipe and chip on and have 240 horsepower. Because boost.
Thoughts?

| 4WD vs AWD vs WHAT WHEEL DRIVE?? |

So I was going to post in Jake's F150 thread, but felt like I would be perpetuating the hijack. I think it would be good to capture a lot of what information was said here as a reference.
It seems a lot of folks think they understand the various nuances of "4WD", but in reality there seems to be a lot of confusion.
Let's start with the basics of 4WD vs. AWD
Quote:All-wheel Drive
As the name implies, all-wheel drive (AWD) feeds power to each corner. Depending on the system (designs vary), AWD can provide maximum forward traction during acceleration. It is especially helpful in sloppy road conditions and when driving over moderate off-road terrain. It can help get you going and keep you moving through mud, sand, and other loose surfaces. Most AWD systems deliver power primarily to one set of wheels, front or rear. When slippage is detected at one axle, power is diverted to the other axle, in hopes of finding more traction there.
Not all AWD systems are equal. Subaru’s AWD system always directs at least 20-percent of the engine’s power to the rear, and it can direct a larger amount aft if needed. Many other systems fitted to front-wheel-drive vehicles operate with 100 percent of the power normally going to the front wheels; the rear wheels then only receive power only when the front wheels start slipping.
AWD systems are especially helpful in rapidly changing conditions or when driving on a road with intermittent snow and ice. It is commonly used for car-based SUVs, as well as certain cars and minivans. (See our list of best AWD vehicles.)
Four-wheel drive
Although four-wheel drive (4WD) and AWD are designations that are often used interchangeably in advertising and sales literature, there is a difference. Generally, 4WD is optimized for severe off-road driving situations such as climbing over boulders, fording deep water, and tackling steep hills with loose, low-traction surfaces. Most 4WD systems have high and a low gear range, the latter used to increase low-speed climbing power. Some have differentials (which allow left and right wheels and front and rear axles to turn at different speeds) to be locked for maximum traction.
Modern 4WD systems are either full-time, which means they stay engaged; automatic, where the vehicle automatically switches between two- and four-wheel-drive mode; and part-time, which require the driver to manually shift between two- and four-wheel drive. Vehicles with a part-time system shouldn’t be driven on dry pavement when in 4WD mode, which could risk damage to the vehicle's drivetrain.
Now most full time 4WD system have a center locking differential. Without the differential locked you're not getting the benefit of the power distribution or "true" 4WD.
I've always admired Andrew St Pierre White's 4xOverland videos. He does a great job of describing the benefits of vehicles equipped with locking center differential in his own very PBS broadcasting way.

For vehicle equipped with these types of differential (center, locking, LSD,etc.) learn some goddamn engineering yo!
I really likes these guys simple videos. Most of these technologies are so simple and yet really cool and effective

This is getting its own topic after someone made a post in one of my threads that was 100% offensive and entirely out of line.
I understand that this is a club forum and that many of us are very tight-knit. I also understand that the internet at large is not a place where people are to be taken seriously 100% of the time. That said, there are some depths of language and humor that are just not acceptable to tread, and this is one of them.
This morning's post was not the first involving a gay slur but it will be the last. I'm not the only gay MMer, there are others who are out and still more who are not out yet but have confided in a select few of us.
Comments and memes like what was posted this morning have also been posted in the past, by more than one person. They do nothing to help promote this club as a welcoming environment for all interested in cars/motorsports. I've stuck to PM in the past, but the "apology" I received this morning began with "lol" and ended with a weak excuse of "being sick" as to why the individual's word choice was deliberately poor.
I don't know about others, but when I'm sick I don't suddenly start spouting off racist comments, and this is truly no different.
Looking forward, those forum members who choose to post such comments will receive a no-questions-asked, one-week vacation from the forum.
It's 2016; the humor and language that you may have found amusing at the age of 12 should be left there, where it belongs.

I know some of you ski/ride..use this thread to post if/when you're going to be going somewhere? I am thinking of going to snowshoe this weekend depending if I can find a room for a fair price. Might not be likely with this dump of snow we're getting. I have yet to use my season pass this year, and I'm going to the alps in February so at some point i'd like to get my snowboarding legs under me this year before then.
