Posted by: GTBrandon - 01-29-2017, 10:00 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (3)

Looking to get a cargo box for my upcoming road trip. I was looking for a 18-21cubic foot box, but let me know if you have anything at all!

  Rolex 24 is Saturday!
Posted by: PDenbigh - 01-27-2017, 11:06 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (10)

It starts Saturday (1/28) at 2:30pm EST. I know there are some MMers (JustinG, others?) in Daytona for it. For those that aren't, here's a good rundown on the event including where to watch it:

http://blackflag.jalopnik.com/the-total ... 1791660766

I'm looking forward to the "Cadillac" and the new 911RSR, and to see how the Ford GT does in Year 2.

Predictions?

My name is Connor and i currently have a 1992 E34 535i/5. Its a fun car but also very comfy. I haven't really done much to it other than general maintenance.

The red metal bumper E30 was my last car which i did a lot to but was forced to get rid of.
some mods were:
H&R Sports
M20b25 Swap with miller MAF and Chip
Everything was refreshed with the engine swap
4.10 Dif
E46 ZHP steering rack swap for faster steering
Sport seats
TRM C1 with Kumho Ecsta 4x ii

All around it was a great car and i hope i get another one some time soon.

  Honest Slim's Auto Detailing

So as some of you know, I'm coming up on a long-expected job transition. Charter has been in the process of acquiring my company and they're closing down the VA office. I still don't know exactly when this will happen, but I'm getting a strong suspicion it's going to be March-ish.

In an effort to keep myself busy and keep some money trickling in during my downtime when I'm not blasting out job applications, I figured I'd try to line up some detail jobs if any of you NOVA guys are interested in getting something cleaned up. I've got Dave's rustbucket on deck when DJ finishes it up, and RJ also expressed some interest in giving his new car some love, but after that I'm accepting reservations.

I pecked out a quick price list of a couple different options. These prices are about 75% of what places around me charge.

Full Detail $450

  • Foam Cannon & Pressure Washer Wash
    Sonax Wheels
Clay Bar to remove embedded contaminants
Iron & Tar Decontamination on Paint & Wheels
2 or 3 Stage Paint Correction as needed
    Apply Sealant
    Tire dressing
    Treat unpainted plastics
    Complete interior detail
    Complete interior wipe down
    Dust Vents
    Steam Carpets
    Glass Cleaning
    Leather condition and decontamination

Quick Detail $300
  • Foam Cannon & Pressure Washer Wash
    Sonax Wheels
Clay Bar to remove embedded contaminants
2 or 3 Stage Paint Correction as needed
    Sealant Application
    Treat unpainted plastics
    Interior Vacuum & wipe down
    Glass Cleaning

Quick Polish $200
  • Foam Cannon & Pressure Washer Wash
    2 Stage Paint Correction
    Sealant Application

Here's my resume:

One of my favorites, hand/back sweat being, well, sweated out of a convertible interior:

The seats looked clean before I started and they still turned a rag black.

DISCLAIMER: I cannot put paint or leather back on the car. Any deep scratches, nicks, dents, and gouges in the interior are obviously going to remain. The before & after photos of my gray GTI are probably the best example of what polishing can correct.

DISCLAIMER #2: If you bring me a car that looks like it has been used for active military duty, we're going to have to adjust the cost appropriately. For example, if you bring me something like this:

And want this:

That'd be it's very own conversation outside of "normal" wear & tear correction.

Like I said, timing is currently uncertain, but I am thinking I'll have all this time on my hands sometime this spring. If any of you NOVA guys are interested just post here letting me know, and when I have firm dates of my availability I'll get back to you guys.

  Ryan Green 2010 Forester XT
Posted by: ryangreen1 - 01-26-2017, 12:40 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (8)

My name's Ryan Green and I've been meaning to make this post for about 3 months now. I'm a senior chemistry major graduating in May. I finally joined MM last semester after a guy freshman year talked to me in a parking lot after seeing my car and telling me to join.
I got my forester about a year and a half ago and it doesn't look like the same car anymore. I wanted something faster and sportier and my parents wanted me in something bigger than my corolla.

I've done a few mods to it so far: XXR 527 rims, BC racing coilovers, nameless muffler delete, some cosmetic stuff like the grill and mud flaps, and a pioneer head unit. Once the warranty runs out I'm considering getting an access port, louder exhaust, and a few other things once I have money.
Taken it to one autocross and refrigerator bowl so far since I lowered it and it does ok, its just a bit top heavy and unfortunately its an automatic but its still a lot of fun.
Managed to blow my turbo on the first cruise I went on with MM, but fortunately got fixed under warranty and no problems since.

  VMR v710 18" w/ Michelins and TPMS
Posted by: GTBrandon - 01-26-2017, 12:30 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (4)

Looking to sell this setup to anyone who is interested. They are gunmetal gray, and in perfect condition, only mounted to one vehicle. It's a staggered 8.5 and 9.5 setup, with a 5x120mm bolt pattern. Tires are 225/40 and 255/35 Michelin Pilot Sport AS3's, and sensors are for any 2011+ BMW. Tread of front tires is brand new, as in I haven't taken the sticker off the tires, and on the back it's around 7/32nds. Let me know if you or anyone you know is interested!

This is my first year here at JMU studying International Business, with a focus on Italian and I'm sure you can guess why. I currently drive my 335xi GT because I needed the space to fit my dog as well as move stuff back and forth from college. Had a list of mods that I wanted to do but after realizing I was about to drop $5k on the car, I decided to save up for a track car instead. So currently I just watch and admire at autocross, but will hopefully be getting something fun soon to bring onto the track. And no, it won't be another miata

HPDchillE: NASA at Dominion, February 25-26
Posted by: Jake - 01-25-2017, 04:13 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (10)

NASA Mid-Atlantic is kicking off their season with a vaguely test-and-tune-y weekend in late February at Dominion Raceway, near Stafford.

Instructor Clinic is being offered on Friday evening (allegedly with track time as part of the Clinic, on Saturday) and the Saturday/Sunday bit is just HPDE with no TT or racing.

I will be there completing the Instructor Clinic and doing some hot-ish laps all weekend. Happy to give rides in HPDE 4 for whoever wants to come out.

Anyone else in for this? It's not a 100% sure thing as severe cold or weather could affect our ability/desire to host this. But for now, party on.

  Spend my money
Posted by: Deceus - 01-25-2017, 11:02 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (84)

Yeah another one of these threads. I'm looking for a grocery-getter to share with my GF. Once the Demon is done I'm selling my Challenger, taking out my student loans and buying something to tow it. She needs something a little more reliable than a $800 Jeep and I need something that's not a pain in the ass to park and gets a little more than 10 MPG.

Parameters:

-Automatic
-4 door (she has a kid)
-$10-15k
-40-75k miles
-2008 and up

Bonus points:
-AWD (her)
-Turbo (me)
-30 MPG

So help me out here friends. Not good at this whole practical thing. Would really like to have something like an EVO or STI but she refuses to learn stick and quite frankly if she's going to suck at it, it's better to avoid it IMO. Not to mention it's out of the price range for now. Once everything is paid off I'd really like to go that route but for now we stay sane.

I was looking at the WRX but they only offered automatics starting in 2015 so that drives the price up. Can't seem to find very many of them either for obvious reasons. Then I was considering a Lancer GT and realized they're just really boring cars but I found a 2013 50k miles for $10k, not bad.

Then I realized I wasn't even considering any German cars. I know fuck-all about them except the expensive ones look exactly the same as the peasant versions. One of you kraut-lovers help me out here (please). Found a 2011 328i xDrive 41k miles for $15,000. Gonna take a look at it this weekend but I'm wondering what else I'm not considering, so please help a brother out.

Not going to mod or track this thing ever so no need to consider any of that. Would likely never take it out over the Demon anyways after all the money I've dumped into it.
