Rolex 24 is Saturday!
#1
It starts Saturday (1/28) at 2:30pm EST. I know there are some MMers (JustinG, others?) in Daytona for it. For those that aren't, here's a good rundown on the event including where to watch it:

I'm looking forward to the "Cadillac" and the new 911RSR, and to see how the Ford GT does in Year 2.

Predictions?

If you get fox sports 1 use the fox sports go app. IMSA TV won't work in America

Incredible racing all around. The battles in the last 2 hours in the prototype and GTLM classes were so much fun to watch.

I was up in the air on the last move by R Taylor. It was very aggressive, but it looked like Albuquerque either didn't see him, or slammed the door shut. Given how loose the officials were the entire race, I am not surprised by the decision to let it be.

EDIT: After watching replays I have changed my mind, no way Taylor makes that turn unless he came to almost a dead stop or pulled a Gran Turismo like he did and bumped off of the #5.

Every year the last 4-5 years it blows my mind that over the course of 24 hours it comes down to seconds or tenths of a second to make the podium.

7 of 11 cars in GTLM were on their lead lap! (7 laps back overall)

For comparison:
2 of 12 in Prototype were on the lead lap
1 of 5 in PC (21 laps back overall)
5 of 27 in GTD were on their lead lap (25 laps back overall)

Corvette had a rough go this year, the factory Porsche team didn't start off strong but stayed consistent as always to make their way onto the podium.
Congrats to Ford, but at the same time, you should win, when you have 4 cars competing in an 11 car field. Plus coming off of a Le Man win, I find it comical that people are saying OMG I CANT BELIEVE THEY WON!.

Favorite thing from the weekend... How the WTR team wore Temporary Rolex Tatoos on their wrist for the race that matched the Rolex they may potentially win, with some modification to the watch face...

I watched the move by Taylor live and replayed many times. To me (limited racing knowledge) I think he made a ballsy but perfectly legal move. Albuquerque went off the line and went high for some reason. Taylor saw the gap in the inside line open and went for it. By the time Albuquerque saw him or realized he fucked up it was too late to shut the door. A little bit of contact but like you said they were very lax the entire race. In the post race interview Taylor said he made the decision to just go for it because why not? He either loses the race or makes a move and faces a possible penalty and loses or he wins. Paid off nicely for him and the entire team.

"Here's the thing: You can be upside down and completely by the rulebook"

Completely legal, in fact I would have tried the same damn thing. Albuquerque realized it too late and tried to shut the door. Almost his own fault for trying to slam the door so late. The officials made the right call, but if I was the Taylor brothers; I would be watching for a divebomb coming soon.
