So a little backstory here. A few weeks ago my girlfriend bought a 2005 Subaru Forester LL bean edition. Good deal and it seemed to be in good condition. There were a few yellow flags but not red flags and for sub $5,000 you can't expect TOO much.
Timeline:
We drive the car the 60 miles home without issue.
8 days later it starts stalling while driving
Check CEL it's for P0302 (Cylinder 2 misfire)
Change the spark plugs and clear code and it goes away
Car won't start half of the time and then it will fire up normal the other half of the time
Get new CEL for 02 under threshold and I'm on a 60 hour work week for the next few months so said okay let's just take it to a good shop around here. They diagnose it by saying it's the rear 02 sensor. Okay sweet. Change that and it runs even shittier (the dealer had also put in a new cat before we bought it).
Still runs like shit but now worse. Sometimes it'll run fine but others it is almost stalling while driving. Lillie couldn't get it above 35mph and if stopped would stall.
Pull new codes for 2 cylinders misfiring now (keep in mind this is less than a fricken' month into ownership!!!!). Tell her to take it back to the shop to rediagnose it since that 02 obviously wasn't the issue. They come back and say that it is a head gasket (great can't wait for that to compound onto my already week). I'm still not certain I agree with the diagnosis.
Is there anything else I should check/change before pulling this motor apart? These motors (2.5 Subaru N/A) are known for their HG issues but I'm not seeing any mix. We get it back from the shop today so I'll check again but didn't see anything.

this truck was never intended to be a "project"...but after driving it for 10 years, it needs attention and its not going anywhere for a while. time for some TLC and upgrades. bought it in 2007 with 42,000 on the clock, and showing 127,000 today. its my wife's daily and our primary kid hauler. sits in traffic every day, trundles through 500mi interstate trips, goes up mountains, asked to work well below freezing to 110+ Georgia heatwaves, loaded to the bumpstops with stuff from Home Depot.
its a 2003 Xterra SE 4x4. N/A 3.3 V6/auto. Rockford Fosgate Package, Tow Package.
![[Image: qoooZpz.jpg]](http://i.imgur.com/qoooZpz.jpg)
it drives like pickup-based SUV's used to in the 90's, which was fine when it came out and had to compete with the XJ and the Tacoma but man does it ever feel ancient now. body on frame, tiny brakes, torsions in front and a big live axle in the back with manual 4WD locking hubs and a V6 that is all torque because you'll get there when you get there. you get some power stuff, lots of hard plastic, and the back seats fold down. this is not an exciting vehicle. its never going to be some hardcore rockcrawler or prerunner either, but its gonna keep soldiering on as a true sport utility vehicle for us, with the emphasis on utility. its been paid off for years, is simple and reliable, and isn't worth a damn thing so there hasn't been a push to replace it although that time will likely come in a few years.

Making fun of what people drink is a great past time. This is thread is for everyone to post beers they really like and for everyone else to tell them how terrible their taste is.
I'll start - this is awesome. The lower the IBU the better.

So, I've been known for putting shitty cars up here. *cough* *cough* nb2 Miata. There's a reason I haven't posted my C6...
This time is different though! Really!
I bought this bike to do a lot of long distance riding... and then found out I don't really care much for long distance riding. Who knew?
Anyway, 2014 Yamaha Bolt R-Spec. 942CC V-Twin with a ton of low end torque, perfect for cruising. Bike comes with the following mods:
Vance and Hines staggered pipes
D&D dual exposed intake
Power Commander V
Baron H bar handlebars
Baron highway / crash bars
River Road saddlebags
National Cycle windscreen
There may be a few other things that I'm missing. Currently has a Mustang solo seat that can be negotiated into coming with the bike. There's over $2K in bolt ons alone, on a bike that's still pretty much new.
Only flaw is that it fell over in the previous owner's garage, creating a small dent in the tank. Never been actually dropped though.
Asking $5400 to the public, gotta get pretty close to $5K for it though. Plenty of these bikes going in the high 4s to low 5s with more miles and bone stock. Would also trade for a 600CC supersport, preferably a CBR or an R6.

Consuella the Tacoma took great care of me through high school and college. I beat on her and she only showed me love. She got me to work and back home safely in 18 inches of unplowed snow, she hauled motorcycles, mopeds, motors, wood, camping gear, all of the stuff for 4 car shows, and way too many drunk people around Harrisonburg. I dubbed it the MM Support vehicle my freshmen year because I must have been used to jump start at least 10 people just that year, drove people to work in the snow, pulled tons of cars out of ditches including a certain green Subaru on the JMU Campus, a motorcycle off the side of 81, and my own Miata off the side of a mountain. Honestly, as much fun as the Miatas and the E46 were, this truck was responsible for more cool things happening in MM than I'd suspect many other vehicles have been. (I heard it was pretty fast too!) Sadly, it's time for it to go. I always dreamed I'd be able to keep it forever and turn it into the off-road rig it deserved (and clearly wanted) to be, but that's just not in the cards. My back is pretty borked and this thing doesn't really do well on the commute from Sterling to Tyson's. I need a little more comfort and inside space.
For months, I pondered what would replace her. I was stuck between a newer F150, Mid 2000s Silverado. I really wanted something with 4 doors since all Zach and I own are vehicles with either 2 doors or 2 wheels. More recently, I almost bought a 2017 Tacoma. I mean, I was REALLY close to buying one. Standing in the dealership crunching the numbers over and over in my head hoping somehow they would change. In the end, Jake and Joey talked me off the edge of that financial suicide and Joey sent me a 4Runner he found that looked really clean, in my favorite color, and with every feature I wanted. I just so happened to have a short day at work so I stole him away from his gluten free pizza and we drove to Front Royal to look at it. I really liked it. Obviously it didn't make giggle and squeal like a little kid being chased by a leaf blower or anything, but it was comfortable and the thought of how much easier it would make day-to-day life made me feel really good. The rumble of the V8 and 300+ lb-ft of torque didn't hurt either. I was approved for a loan from my bank, so I went inside and told them I'd take it. My bank was closing, wasn't open on weekends, and the dealer needed to replace the right rear caliper anyway, so we agreed I'd come back Monday.
Natalie gave me a ride back down there and I picked it up today. Not only did they replace the caliper, but they threw a new battery in and handled the tags, title, and registration for me. The dealership is G & W auto sales and they seem like really great people. Not pushy at all, really nice to talk to, and honestly they ask seemingly great prices for their stuff. I didn't get this thing for a steal, but I certainly got a great deal considering the mileage and condition. That said, here's the details:
2007 Toyota 4Runner Limited
- 2 Owner, Pennsylvania car with a clean carfax
- 116,000 miles
- 4.7 Liter V8 with variable valve timing ( 260hp and 306 lb-ft of torque)
- Only weighs in somewhere between 4000 and 4300 and you can tell when you step on it.
- Heated leather
- JBL Sound System
- Front window tent
- Power moonroof
- 100Watt outlet in the center console
- Dual Climate
- Locking Center Torsen Differential
- 18 inch wheels
- Running boards
- Tow Package
- Tons of other nice things I've never had (or only had briefly with the E46) like a self closing tailgate, folding rear seats, one of those automatic rear view mirrors, power rear glass, memory seats, electronic lumber support, radio controls on the steering wheel.
- This is obviously the newest vehicle I've ever owned, but also it's essentially the lowest mileage as well since the 95 Miata now has just as many miles.
I've already spoken with Jason and we're pricing out a Timing Belt, Water Pump, Front/Rear/Center Diff fluid, Trans fluid, Coolant flush, etc. I only used Toyota products in my Tacoma and I'll continue the trend here.
The drive home was absolutely splendid. It soaks up bumps and rough road ten times better than my Tacoma on those crazy high spring rate lift springs. I will echo what Cabell said when he got his and say that the stock suspension is pretty tired and really floaty at highway speed (vertically, not laterally). The extra gear and extra 100 lb-ft of Torque was so satisfying when you could pass people no problem on 66 while only taching 2100 RPM at 75MPH. Another thing to note is this gets essentially the same mileage as my Tacoma did. The stereo sounds great and will be even better when I upgrade the head unit to something with Nav and Bluetooth. Joey and I were surprised to see that a 2007 Toyota had a factory aux port in the center console, but then again, this was a $40,000 car. Also, after doing some math, it seems absolutely feasible to pull an open trailer with this. That will have to be further down the road when I have room for a race-car or I finally nut up and sell the Miata to build one. Regardless of that, I'm excited to get out and do some trail riding and camping with this thing. It certainly won't do what my Tacoma could do without dumping large amounts of money into it, but it'll hold it's own on some trails and will be super comfortable while doing it.
Future plans:
Baseline maintenance
Small lift and more aggressive tire (Depending on how much I turn out to care about gas mileage)
Double Din Head Unit with Nav and Bluetooth
After that, who knows? I have a million other things to spend money I don't have on.
Any way, thanks for reading! Here's some pictures of a stock 4Runner.

Hey kids! The time has come, and I have been convinced. Consuella 2.0 is destined to be replaced Now, I won't tell you guys exactly what the plan is just yet, but I think it'll be cool.
Joey and I are going to prepare the truck later this week, but I've got some time before my day starts to make a quick post. I don't suspect any of you will buy this, but here goes.
2003 Toyota Tacoma Xtra Cab V6 4x4 TRD Offroad Package
- 3.4 liter V6 with 161,000 miles
- 265/70/16 BFG Rugged Terrain tires that will pass inspection, but probably should be replaced in the next year
- Every Feature offered on a first gen Tacoma except the rare moonroof and the tow package (tow hitch and a different clutch fan)
- Rear diff locker wired to work in 2-Hi
- Lifted 3" on OME Dakar rear leaf springs with Bilstein 5125 extended length shocks rear
- Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks in the front
- Rear diff breather relocate
- Brake proportioning valve bracket to account for the lift
- Redline fluids in both diffs and transfer case ~20,000 miles ago
- Transmission drain and fill ~20,000 miles ago
- Timing belt (but I don't believe water pump) 40,000 miles ago, Fuel Filter
- Optima yellow top battery installed 4 years ago
- New plugs and wires installed less than 4000 miles ago
- Silver Husky bed toolbox
- 4XInnovations Rock Sliders
- Kenwood Double Din Touch Screen Head Unit with wires ran for amp install under driver seat
- Uniden 520 CB Radio with Wilson 1000 5 foot whip
- Frame recall under coating, rear spare tire carrier replaced under warranty
- 18" Magnaflow muffler with downturn to clear leaves
- Deck Plate Mod
- All weather rubber floor mats from Factory
- I also will throw in an 4 OEM Cloth Floor Mats, extended length SS Rear Brake Line, Diff Drop, and a set of 15x7 Steel Wheels all uninstalled.
As you guys know, I've offroaded this quite a bit. So here's the bad
- It's muddy on the bottom and the engine bay
- It has scratches, but 99% of them will come out with a buff and polish
- Something hit the roof before I owned it and it has a few small rust spots but you never see it, small scratch to the middle on one side of the bed
- The rear shocks are really long and can bottom out if you putt more than a few thousand pounds in the bed
- Needs tires in the future
- Front bumper valence was damaged at Flagpole knob, but isn't noticeable unless you look for it
- General wear and surface rust
- Driver side seat plastic is cracked on the side
- Suspension is very stiff since it's an heavily upgraded leaf pack
- Blower motor made a few noises a couple of months ago, but stopped.
- One of the rivets on the rear quarter window was replaced with a bolt and nut
Overall, this is a great truck, just I need more interior space and something better for long drives with a few more creature comforts for the commute into Tyson's. I trust this truck to the moon and back. No leaks, nothing frightens me about it, I've taken very good care of it when I wasn't beating on it.
Joey and I are cleaning it up soon, but here are some pictures of it really dirty.

Between Encierro and Princess Blanca I can see many opportunities where it's finally worth me having my own helmet. If y'all have any old/spare ones I may be interested sometime this summer if you don't mind sharing just post them here. Or if you know anyone selling one. I think it just needs to be Snell 2005(?) to stay NASA legal. I think, not sure. Or maybe if anyone has a discount at og racing or something and they have a sale or something and someone doesn't mind hooking me up that would be awesome too!

First, I was all like "mmmm yes gimme all dat LS400 goodness, wrap me in luxury and whip me with a V8." but then I was like I don't need all that car.
I'm here for fun, so a Miata it is!

Drives like a maita, smells like a miata, looks like a miata, y'all aren't new to this. It's the car Scott was selling. I'm looking forward to driving the hell out of this. It's been two years since my e36, so two years since owning a fun car and I couldn't be more ready. Probably gonna autox it a good bit and whenever I can afford a rollbar it'll get it but i'm not really focusing on that right now. Brakes, tires, suspension as i feel to do em. The suspension is surprisingly tight and firm. Good car, thanks Scott!
