Fitzpatrick Crash
Posted by: D_Eclipse9916 - 05-26-2017, 09:55 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (19)

This past weekend I was in a crash that resulted from a mechanical failure. The Rear Trailing Arm Pocket failed during qualifying.

Youtube Video of crash:
https://youtu.be/J4zPECASIrs

I am "okay". I still have small head aches and today is the first day I don't "feel" the Hans on my shoulders.

The car is totalled beyond repair (like not even close  ). Which really sucks because the hard hit combined with the roll pretty much took out a good chunk of the car's pricey bits. In the trash: 2x Moton 3-way shocks, Harness, Seat, Cage, Hans, seat brackets, vented fenders, Turner rear lower control arms, Custom spherical front control arm, 4x Apex wheels, rear sphericals, Brooks Wing, carbon fiber trunk, front bumper, carbon fiber riser, and I am sure other things I havent even looked at yet. :finger: And not even sure about the Motor/trans/diff as the Motor was still running while in the air and I can smell gear fluid.

Please remember that this is a dangerous sport. I got lucky in many ways:
1. Visor down (I always keep it down but sometimes forget on the warmup or first lap) Glass shards in the face wouldn't have been fun.
2. I was slower into that braking zone than usual. 108 instead of 116mph because of a slowed car in the previous corner.
3. This is one of the slowest braking zones at VIR, one braking zone later I would have been travelling at 140mph

Just a reminder, at many points of the car, the stock unibody completely failed and was only held back by the cage portion. This is not to scare anyone from coming out to the track, but my own personal rule from now on is I will only drive in caged cars at speed. This also reduces my want for a "fast" street car. I think I will be playing around a bit less on the street.

Post here if you wish to be added to the GroupMe for the club. It's VERY active so keep it muted if you don't want to be bombarded with dank memes.

If you want to join, please download the GroupMe app before asking. Otherwise, you'll get a test message for everything in the chat and it'll annoy you.

I'm still in shock. Myself, Gerald, Matt, and a few others were at Laguna Seca for his win in his MotoGP championship season in 2006. The energy there was incredible, and that was repeated when we were rooting for Nicky on the Ducati at Indianapolis, when he snagged a podium there in 2009.

RIP.

2GB RAM, 32GB HD, Z3775 processor, 11.6" display separates from base to operate as a tablet. Base includes another drive bay.
Used for 1.5 years, sells for $275 new, I'd like $150 for it. Includes charger and original box. Excellent condition.

 The Photography Thread
Posted by: SlimKlim - 05-23-2017, 11:48 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (72)

Since we have threads about meat, beer, video games, electronics, pc building, watches, etc. I figure we might as well have a dumping ground to discuss photography and gear.

I used to be kind of a huge photography nerd in high school, my first camera was a some form of Canon Rebel 35mm (that's film, kids), maybe a K2. Circa 2004-2005 I picked up a Rebel XTi which was pretty much the cutting edge of DSLR technology for the time and my budget. I sort of forgot about the hobby during college and since then have had a desire to pick it back up, but wasn't super motivated to do it with outdated gear. Then Nikon went and offered 50% off on a couple models this month. So, I guess I'm back.

My gear:

-Nikon D5500
- 18-55mm kit lens
- 70-300 telephoto
- 0.43x screw-on macro/fisheye adapter for 18-55
- Standard UV + Polarizer filters for both lenses
-Cheapo camera backpack from Amazon with partitions for lenses 'n' whatnot

I'm also planning to grab a pair of lens hoods, a couple spare batteries and a nicer strap, but I'm stuck trying to decide between the regular Peak strap and the wrist strap. I've always wrapped the standard straps around my wrist, but largely because the OEM straps are too small to put over your shoulder. I'd be interested to hear people's preferences.

I've been having a lot of fun jumping back in but there are some settings that go completely over my head. Auto-bracketing? Active-D lighting? Metering? (The last one might having something to do with how it does the auto white balancing?)

I'm curious to hear what setups you guys have and how you shoot. I've been using the "programmed auto" mode or "aperture priority auto" and then manually adjusting iso and exposure compensation as needed. I've been shooting directly in JPG and leaving the color mode in "standard" for the most part.

Thought I'd post up here just in case. Doubt anyone is looking but if you know a friend that works to. Selling my old wheels as I don't want to pull the Miata fenders and run close to -3 camber on a daily.

Selling my wheels as I've bought other ones. The wheels will come with ~40% tread 245/40/17 RE-71R and 20 silver lugs. One wheel has very tiny, light curb rash. Another wheel has small, light curb rash. You can see the curb rash in pictures. The wheels have standard daily driven wear with a few minuscule rock chips here and there that you don't really notice. Overall, these wheels are in great shape. Just cleaned the entire wheels + inner barrel.

Received this at a discount to provide a review, worked great on Casey's 7 and actually fit my 6s fine as well.

But she didn't like how big it made her phone and I don't have a need for it cause my 6S is my work phone.

$25, can bring to Hyperfest.

 FS: 2013 Honda Fit

Toying with the idea of keeping the e30 for a good while, so if you know anyone looking for a Fit, send them my way.

This 2013 model is highly coveted among "those in the know" with it's rare combination of a manual gear box and sleeper status courtesy of the factory sport package delete option.

The list of amenities is practically endless, but allow me to highlight just a few of them for you.
- 4 Tires
- Steering wheel
- AM AND FM Radio

Power output numbers have always been unclear as rumor has it HoA was sandbagging the numbers to evade the DriftMissile tax, but the ButtDyno reports:
Horsepower - 17 (at a minimum)
Torque - Yes, it has torques.

I don't have any photos of it, but found one on the web that could be its twin.

Haven't done any serious market pricing, but a quick CL scan and I'd probably list it at $11,000. It has a hair under 33k miles.

 Ford F100

Continuing with my downsizing theme with some family changes and a potential move to Chicago:

1968 Ford F100. The truck is great for an old, rusty F100. I've used it as a parts runner and we take it to breakfast most Saturday mornings. It's terrible to drive by modern standards, which makes it great. It always starts, doesn't matter if it's 20 or 90 outside. In addition to the cab corners, I purchased a set of floor pans (not installed) and installed a "newer" set of tires. 240ci, inline 6, 3 on the tree. Looks very presentable from 10 feet.

I'm $2,200 into the truck, so the price is $2,200
