  MM is 20 Years Old
Posted by: G.Irish - 04-06-2021, 12:08 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (2)

20 years ago on or about April 4th, Madison Motorsports got its sanction as an official student organization at JMU. At the time we were just trying to find a way we could enjoy this hobby with friends in a way that would let us do more than we could by ourselves. But from the start, the idea was that long after we left JMU, that MM would stay strong, and maybe grow a little bit.

2 decades later and so many people have kept MM strong, built great friendships, and gone on great adventures.

Normally we might have been gearing up for a MM car show or some sort of party at this time of year, but of course, da' Rona. I'm hoping we can have some sort of track day reunion or party of some kind later this year when things are more normal. Covid has been a huge, once in a century upheaval, but at the same time it's a reminder that things are changing rapidly. Twilight is fast approaching for ICE performance cars so we may not be able to enjoy this hobby in the same way in the years to come. And bigger than that, you never know how much time you have left with all the friends you've made along the way. I hope we can find a few ways to celebrate MM's 20th birthday this year and celebrate all of the great friendships and experience this club has brought us.

  Off-road Cayenne
Posted by: turboneticsSS - 03-16-2021, 06:24 PM - Forum: Member's Projects - Replies (2)

Been wanting a cayenne for a very long time now so last November I decided to treat myself. Picked up this 60k mile example from Porsche of Conshohocken right down the road from me. It’s a vr6 example which i really have been hoping will be the most reliable option although slow. Been loving it so far, had some back luck being rear ended but all is well and she’s fixed now. Since buying I’ve installed some small black trim pieces as well as a eurowise 3” lift and 265/65/18 falken rubitreks. Plan is to do light overland mods (mainly underbody protection since I have the lift/tires covered) where it can still be my daily driver and hopefully rack up some serious miles. Itll also be used to tow the viper and my boat, I'm towing little enough that I'm not too worried about it.

992 GT3 and McLaren Artura Debuts Today
Posted by: G.Irish - 02-16-2021, 12:50 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (9)

Kinda unusual to see two cars in this class debut the same day but I ain't complainin.

The 992 GT3 dropped this morning with a bit more info and the configurator is up in some of the overseas markets.  Already knew that it was the only 911 to get double wishbones in the front, but today they revealed that they ran a 6:59 Ring time with it.  It seems like just yesterday only the first street legal street cars we're going under 7 minutes, and now the *regular* GT3 can do it.  I'm on the wait list for it but truth be told my name probably wouldn't come up until sometime next year or later.

  Lightning Lap 2021

Usually this comes out in like Sept/Oct but pandemic or something. I feel like nothing was really surprising this time around. If anything, the 765LT probably should have been a good deal faster than the 720S but I suspect they just didn't get the best out of it.

Makes sense that without apex seals, this should be better in emissions and longevity

Stuff probably only I would want:
1) A D-bike with the 3-5hp one
2) An i3 with the 200lb 650cc replaced with the 40lb 40hp version of this
