  WaveCel helmets

Makes sense to me, I wonder if it's applicable to motorcycle helmets as well? I'm looking forward to some independent test results.

Maybe not worthy of its own thread but 3 of the 4 most recent threads here are plumbing spam, so hey.

  HALP! Race/Dash Camera setups
Posted by: Kaan - 04-15-2019, 10:25 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (22)

First, I am not tech savvy... second, this is a requirement for racing... third, I am not rich.

I have a gopro session 4... I did my settings on friday like the youtube video said, i did two test videos, checked them, deleted them, rechecked my settings and figured i was good to go...

the stupid thing indicated it was on, beeped, flashed the lights, etc ALL WEEKEND and there was NOTHING on my drive. At comp school it went in to photo mode and was taking one picture/second for the entire weekend. I'm TIRED of this thing. I thought one button operation would be better for me.

I talked to DJ about this AIM setup (dash and smarty cam please)... I know its costly, but its going to be my end solution. but I need something else in the mean time that actually does its job. I need video to help inform my data... cause I'm tired of interclass racing and need to get faster (miatas are cool now... Spec3 and deadly slow ST classes can eat a...)

help an old man out please... hell someone come show me how to operate this damn gopro I have and i'll be happy.

I almost busted out the softball bat and sent this thing across the property. Angry

Who be going? I'll be doing TT/Instructing.

May not have enough brake pad the whole weekend, but we'll find out. Should be enough for Saturday at least. G-Loc pads aren't getting here in time. Oh well.

  Amanda Garbim - Secretary
Posted by: Amanda Garbim - 04-08-2019, 04:23 PM - Forum: Officer Elections 2019-2020 - Replies (3)

Who I am?
Hi everyone, my name is Amanda Brandão Garbim. I am currently a Sophomore International Affairs major. I was born and raised in Brazil. Since I was a child my brother taught me about cars and racing, but my true love are motorcycles. I race my motorcycles on racetracks back home and it’s my passion, as Ayrton Senna, Formula1 driver used to say, “You will never know the feeling of a driver when winning a race. The helmet hides feelings that cannot be understood.”
I knew about MM two years before attending JMU because of my brother (Caio), who is a member. He told me to be part of the club and I am very thankful that he told me this. MM helped me a lot to deal with homesickness. The best memories that I have from my freshman year are related to MM and the racetrack events.

Why am I a good choice to be a secretary?
I think would be a good secretary because of a couple of reasons. First, I do my best to be very involved in almost all events, for me the MM events are one of the best things about my experience here in the US. I know that being an officer is like having a part-time job and I'm willing to dedicate myself to it. Second, in my opinion teamwork just depends on organization, communication, and respect. I think that I would be a good secretary because I am very organized and good at planning events, I am always open for constructive criticism and advice, also I respect the differences between people. Another reason is that I am good at managing social media page and I am confident I could help with this because I am very creative. The last reason why I am a good choice for secretary is that I am committed to everything I do, and I will do my best to ensure the success of the club.

What are my goals?
My goal as secretary will be to be as helpful as possible to all members, ensuring that everyone has the information and the opportunity to get involved and participate in the events. I really want to increase the number of female members. There are not many, and I know there are women who would like to be part of the club but it is my understanding that they believe that they need to know almost everything about cars to be a member. Which is not true, I don’t even know half of what most of the members know. I want to show everyone that the club is welcome to all no matter what.

Thank you for reading my officer election thread, I hope you liked it.

  Sahm Azizi - Treasurer
Posted by: Sahm - 04-08-2019, 03:50 PM - Forum: Officer Elections 2019-2020 - Replies (10)

Hey everyone, I'm Sahm. I'm a junior engineering major and I've been a part of MM for the past 2 years. I'm a big motorcycle guy and you'd probably recognize me from my red helmet that I have with me on campus almost every day. I'm pretty new to the forums so if you would like to know a little more about me or see my bikes, please check out my Intro Thread .

I just want to start out by saying that our current exec board had done an amazing job this year and put on a fantastic car show this past weekend!

Why me?

These past few years in MM I have gotten to know a lot of the club members well and have learned a lot from being around the current exec members.
I have become more involved and have tried to lend a hand whenever and wherever I could, whether it be designing new shirts or helping out at events like the car show or nasa. I want to take this to the next level and be able to serve this club as treasurer.

As Treasurer...

Lets be real... everyone knows what a treasurer does. Whether it be collecting dues, paying for club events like karting, or finding sponsors and collecting money for events like the car show, I'm ready for it all.
As an engineering student, I have plenty of experience with Excel/Google Sheets so keeping the transaction log up to date would be no problem for me.

Apart from the general duties of treasurer, I would like to help out with things like social media outreach and event planning.

  • I think it would be super fun to maybe bring back the days of the party bus and get a group to ride on the drunk buses one night.
  • This past year there was talk about designing a new MM shirt and a few designs were made. This year I'd like to help make them a reality.
  • I think birthday posts on Instagram/Facebook could be a fun way to highlight our member and show off their rides to the community. (maybe their member highlights could be posted on their birthdays?)

I would love to be your treasurer for the 2019-2020 academic year and I'm looking forward to another year with MM!

To start off, I think we had a great year for the club, and were able to handle certain hiccups very well. That being said, I always think we can do better, and I'm hoping this year can be extremely transformational for MM. Through building partnerships with new people such as xLabs for meetings, club workshops, and member access to otherwise exclusive facilities. To continuing and expanding current partnerships with MAAP to help students learn more about working on their vehicles as well as giving them a chance to enjoy track time in MAAP'S 944 track car for students (a lot of legalities I can't answer for you, and should be directed at Cole as this is in its very earliest stages).

I think this year my biggest concern was that while in the beginning of the year we had a great turnout of new and returning members, throughout the year the number of members who actually came to events was lack luster. I am still trying to figure what can be done to get students more engaged from the beginning, but if you have any ideas on what can be done or what's been done in the past, I'm always open to suggestions.

Also hoping to have more social events that aren't just Motorsports focused. At the end of the day this club forms a great group of friends, and I want to do what I can to foster those relationships. I was thinking of things that other organizations do like cabin retreats, bar crawls for of-age members, and possibly mixers with other organizations. This is all up in the air, but just ideas I've been having.

Like I said, current students or Alum, if you have any ideas or suggestions on how we can improve, please let me know. I want to hear from everyone as I know there is always room to do better, especially with so many different people and interests in one club. Thanks!

My Role as Vice President…
First, please do not be worried I will still be in full control of the Madison Motorsports social media except this year I will have help! So how exactly will my role change??? Honestly, it won’t change that much, I think we did a great job at spreading the workload among all of the officers this year and I’m confident that we will do the same the coming year. I’ll have a few added responsibilities but nothing that I can’t handle.

What happened to ________ …
Here are two things from last years elections that didn’t become a reality. I’m excited to tackle these two things in the coming year.

1. “I'd - like to do social media collaborations with local businesses”
This kind of happened but only around the time of the car show. I want to build on our relationships with local businesses throughout the year.
2. “Member highlights... These would be videos that would basically be an interview with an individual member asking them why they joined MM, what drives their automotive passion, etc.”
I did not have the equipment that I felt was necessary in order to produce a quality member highlight video but that is changing very soon Smile that being said I still did a test shoot for locations and what not so get excited for these!

What I would like to improve…

  • Improving retention through the winter with strong events like the following
    • Factory/company tours
    • Booze Cruise
    • New Karting location
    • Inside auto shows
    • Game Nights
  • Stand out at Student Org night and on campus events
    • Tall sign
    • Laptop w/ video playing bring small speaker
    • Stickers
    • Shirts
  • Member engagement on social media
    • Facebook banner contests for members and Alum
    • Donut Media like video - Everything You Need to Know About MM
    • Member Highlights
    • More talking in videos - more personable
  • Meeting attendance
    • Points system with a reward at the end
    • Dinner before or after
  • Update the Constitution
    • Specify possible reasons for punishments
    • Include incident report sheet to better protect MM
    • Include social media guidelines

  SOLD: 2018 GTI SE 6 Speed Manual - $24,000
Posted by: Senor_Taylor - 04-08-2019, 09:22 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (29)

Hello all! The GTI has been a great car and I still like it very much. It was the best decision I think I've made and really helped me get my life in order after a tumultuous first year post graduation. However, with the Spec3 build coming along and my current 1.9 mile commute, I'm putting less than 100 miles on it a month some times and I have bigger plans.

No, this is not a rushed decision. I've been contemplating, crunching numbers, and discussing this with anyone who would listen for months. No, I'm not in a hurry to do any of this.

For sale:
2018 GTI SE, 6 speed Manual
Plaid Cloth Interior
Mechanical LSD
Golf R brakes (new front pads and rotors installed. Rear pads included)
LED Lighting Package
14,000 miles
Boomba Racing Blow Off Valve Adapter for the turbo noises
New Oil Pan gasket
New Clockspring
New Headunit Screen

You know the car's story, you know what I used it for. I'll post some more pics later this week, but it's just a stock 18 GTI. Not much else to it. It's a great car that very quick, handles exceptionally well, and has the best interior for this price point, undoubtably.

Hyperfest 2019 - VIRginia International Raceway May 17-29
Posted by: Senor_Taylor - 03-29-2019, 12:08 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (122)

http://hyper-fest.com/

Hyperfest is the ultimate motorsports destination and this year it's at VIR on May 17th, 18th and 19th. NASA Road racing, Drifting, Lawn Mower Racing, Burnout contests, RallyCross, Bike racing, car shows and much more! This weekend is the weekend most of us anticipate all year and there is NO reason not to make out. Hotels are on site and nearby, but the best action is camping out with everyone either in the camping area or the NASA paddock if you're lucky enough. DO NOT MISS THIS EVENT!

Who is going? Who is working?

I'll be there working Friday night through Sunday I believe. Rolling in Thursday night. Not sure what car I'll have with me, but if I'm driving on track, it'll be Sunday only. I don't think we're doing a burnout car this year.

Working Full Time:

Working Part time:

Helpers:

Camping (Only need the name of the person with the tent):

Attending (Other):

Camping/Parking

1) Unless you have a NASA pass, you're parking in the big Field outside the NASA paddock. (To your right after crossing the bridge)

2) Camping is technically only in the camping areas outside the paddock (think the areas on the road before you pass the pond on your left and stop at the stop sign in the paddock near the gas station). A camping pass is required

3)We usually get away with non workers camping by the showers in the NASA paddock without a camping pass, but you'll need to park outside the paddock (see 1)

4) since you can't park in the paddock without working, it's safe to assume you'd be sleeping in your car in the lot, which will not fly with the VIR people since you'd be cheating the system

So either your options are, Get a NASA pass and sleep in your car in the paddock, or get a camping pass and sleep in a tent in the paddock (leaving your car in the lot) or camping with the non NASA people outside the paddock. MM'ers that need a camping pass, please post up here.

All students camping should get together and think about whose vehicle will be most useful to get in and out of the paddock and use that one. Ditch all the rest in the parking lot. (smart money says someone with a pickup or large vehicle should be chosen)
