  Allow myself to introduce,
Posted by: CaptainHenreh - 04-02-2004, 12:46 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (11)

Well, myself.

Probably about 6 months ago I joined here, and then Promptly never came back. I can't remember why, I think I just forgot.

So I'm going to introduce myself again.

My name is Henry, but most folks call me Rex. I go to BC, and I'm an Info Sys Mgmt major. Which, I'm ashamed to say, is something of a Joke. Haha, jokes on me, I guess. I work with Dave, and I'm trying to scrape my dues together.

Now, my car.

I drive a 1991 Nissan 240 SX. The bad:

  • Jacked up passenger fender
    Slightly grindey second gear
    2 different kinds of tires
    Unfathomably shitty seats. (they're awful)
    Broken antenna.
    Holes in trunklid.
    Lower than stock gearing.

But, the good:
  • Infiniti J30 Viscous limited slip (where the gearing issue comes from)
Infiniti Q45 brakes (ok, they're in the box, but they'll be on by May, damn it!)
Q45 MAFS (Ok, it's in the box too. But it's HUGE! 90MM!)
    Not stock stereo.
    H4 Headlights. (I couldn't stand the stockers)

Finally, to round out the good is the immense mound of iron and aluminum standing on it's oil pan in my garage. A spare KA24DE. Paid 100 bucks for it. But I can rebuild it. Make it faster, stronger, more powerful. *insert "million dollar man noise" here* If my calculations are correct, I should be able to get ~220hp (wheel) with my stock injectors and a T3, with no intercooler. (not that I would ever, but my point stands) Maybe more with some tuning.

Now, allow me to answer your questions:
No, I'm not going SR.
Yes, I know 240's are trendy now. I wanted one long before this whole craze came about.
No, I don't drift.
Yes, I do all my own work, except my oil changes cuz Wal-mart is such a damn good deal. (30 bucks for mobil1 and you'll vaccum my car? Sure, have at it.)

I also have a garage and a massive torque wrench.

No, that's not a metaphor. Smile

The campus has been littered with Madison Motorshow fliers (in approved places). If you see one on the ground, please pick it up. If you see one hanging nicely, wave.

ta ta for now.

  NASA-X Money!!!
Posted by: Mike - 04-01-2004, 10:36 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (5)

Money from the NASA-X just came in, we earned $442.04 after NASA's fee, the lunch that was bought for us, and the equipment fund (so we buy stuff to make our events even better). Thanks to everyone who came out to help and an extra thanks to everyone who entered their cars as well!

The events at VMP will hopefully bring in even more money since it is a better location. This is money that we can put towards karting events, tools, videos, a club kart, trips to races (spring break in Sebring?), etc; but we need your help!

Our next event will be Sunday, April 11, 2004 and transportation is available to folks who don't have cars. If you're interested in actually driving and don't have a vehicle, speak up, someone may let you do a few runs in their car (chime in here Mr. Thayer)!

  The Ant and the Grasshopper
Posted by: .RJ - 04-01-2004, 03:12 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (44)

At the risk of inciting Kaan.... Wink Modern spoof....

OLD VERSION:

Quote:The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

MODERN VERSION:

Quote:The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving. CBS, NBC, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so? Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing, "It's Not Easy Being Green."

Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, "We shall overcome." Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake.

Tom Daschle & John Kerry exclaim in an interview with Peter Jennings that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his "fair share."

Finally, the EEOC drafts the "Economic Equity and Anti-Grasshopper Act," retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government. Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients.

The ant loses the case.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him because he doesn't maintain it. The ant has disappeared in the snow. The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Vote Republican

  soft clutch, need advice
Posted by: ScottyB - 04-01-2004, 01:05 AM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (16)

well this is kinda weird, but i got my car back from monroe today after having to leave it for a day to be inspected (they were really busy). i thought it was just in my head, but the clutch definitely engages higher up on the pedal now, and its engagement is much softer. when i pulled out of the lot, i practically slipped my clutch the whole way through second, it was so different. would this problem have to do with something that happened during the inspection procedure, or maybe if they test drove it? my clutch is hydraulic, so if i bleed my clutch fluid, is there a chance i can make my normal clutch feel return? the clutch is stock with 24k miles on it.

i hate my clutch feel now! any help would be appreciated!

  Harrisonburg and thieving
Posted by: deeseetoo - 04-01-2004, 12:35 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (45)

How safe do you consider Harrisonburg in terms of car thefts? This is my first year here and i've only seen one instance of thievery, but it was pretty big. (typeR getting it's interior stolen). Anyway, just wondering if cars get stolen or things get stolen out of cars around here alot.

BTW why are there so many Type Rs around JMU?

  Integra Car Cover OEM
Posted by: deeseetoo - 04-01-2004, 12:22 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (2)

SOLD
I have an OEM Acura car cover for a 1994-2001 integra. It could fit any integra that uses an OEM spoiler (non-type R) or any integra without a spoiler.

Really clean
says "ACURA" in red at the nose of the cover.
Has holes at the bottom of the cover which could be used with a lock to strap it down (no lock included)

just post here if you are interested, i'll be notified [/b]
