Looks like me, Shea, and John (Chapin) did it, but I'm wondering if any other MM'ers happened to go down there? Seems like there were a lot of JMU students (not too many UVA students though ).

heh you did? How was it
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a van is a good guy with a van
yeah I was just about to ask you how it went
It was a lot of fun. It was also pretty fucking hard.
I had been running for the last 6 weeks or so (and doing some gym intervals before that) to train, but I still wasn't as prepared as I would've liked. I was up to 10 mile trail runs through Fountainhead but I wasn't at the point I could run the whole 10 miles.
The course was 10 miles up and down the slopes of Wintergreen with 27 obstacles. I didn't have any trouble getting past any of the obstacles, it was just the climbs up the mountain that were a bitch. There was a mile long trudge up a double black diamond in the first half that was seriously painful and difficult, easily the hardest part of the event for me.
The obstacle that kind of caught all of us out was the slip 'n' slide. It was about 20 yards long and had a big pool of water at the end. You're thinking, "Psshh, I can handle a fucking slip and slide." Well one of my buddies got a running start then slipped and slammed on his back and hit his head. I went flying down and didn't realize there were rocks under the tarp. Banged up my knee and got a big bruise on my hip. Everyone who went down with any kind of speed came up limping. Apparently they fixed it after our group.
The obstacle most people I heard hated the most was the ice bath. But I had been doing an ice bath after running as part of my training so I actually kinda liked it:
It was really cool event and I'd probably do it again.

OMG I JUST HEARD ABOUT THIS ON SUNDAY!!!....seems like the most awesome race ever...maybe this will motivate me to initiate "Mission: HOT BOD", or not...Congrats on your accomplishment! I did the Richmond Riverrock mud run this past summer, most fun I've had running in a long time!

man, good thing the weather was pretty nice... I would imagine an ice bath and slip and slide would be pretty unacceptable if it was 45 deg out :vomit:
well good for you, I didn't know you've been running

thats awesome. i did a Warrior Run a year ago and it was a blast but my "i used to run competitively, this is cake" mentality got the best of me in addition to crappy training and i finished pretty weakly. this looks way more intense and therefore cooler.

Yeah I think the looming specter of a 10 mile trail run at a ski resort helps keep you focused on training. At least it should, there was one guy who fell out and had to have his buddies carry him after the first mile.

Yes! I had a great time. Ran in the 8am wave on Sunday morning. Here's a shot of me (in the red shirt) at the top of the Devil's Beard obstacle:
I definitely bit it on the monkey bars, because I was wearing some greasy Mechanix gloves out of my toolbox, but didn't have any other trouble with obstacles. The hills were fun. I like hills 8)
As for training, I didn't do anything specific to Tough Mudder, but I think all of the marathon-oriented stuff I've been doing (30+ miles/week running) was sufficient. Tough Mudder is really about 90% cardio, and if you've got that down, you probably have enough upper body strength to get through the rest of it. For what it's worth, today (one day after Tough Mudder) I was able to bike 10 miles and run 3 miles, with no issues...
My two feet.
That's sick. I had heard about this for a little while but was doing PT so it was out of the picture. I'm pretty well accustomed to everything water and I hate running but if another event pops up in the neighborhood I might have to give it a shot. Looks like too much fun to miss out on.

Very tempting.. Mentioned it to a couple people today, might have to go for it. Looks like it's in May 19/20

I might be down. DC is only 45 min for me so if I am in shape I might consider it...As of now I don't think I could make it.

yeah..went for a run for the first time in months..oof. Gotten too used to biking, not running. Forgot to wear my back brace and was in back pain within 4 miles. Have what...5-6 months to train? Thats a ton of time to train. I need new running shoes too.
For those still into running, what do you like for under $100? My current set is some asics gel-nimbus 9s, but they are more than run-out.
