Let me tell you bout my Chevy Silveraydo
#1
Before the Silveraydo:
During the period of having my learners and early license I mainly drove my mom's Accord while only the SE 4 cylinder it was still fun to push to its limits and push to the 120mph tap out.

Next we found a 92 ranger which I drove for about a year before needing the bigger vehicle for the landscaping work I did.

The Birth of Big Blue:
2013 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3L, LT, Tow Package, Extended Cab. 12k~ mileage. Clean record
(Day after purchase)

Right away I began the plans to what the final product of my truck would look like and the most similar I have come across is this picture (although I have decided to go with a leveling kit instead of a 6 in" lift)

Mods Already Done
-Cb Radio and Antenna
-PA Speaker
-Line-X Toolbox and bed
-Black Dipped Emblems
-Reese Hitch

Planned Mods:
-Y Dual exhaust super 40s (too cheap for the true dual)
-Obviously I have to do something with the front end to match the black trim ideas but I have not decided what yet
-Leveling Kit
-Moto Metal Wheels are the plan but it may be altered because I have just recently decided I have no use for that much lift
-Tires was probably going to get B.F. Goodrich similar to the ones we put on the ranger but size is undecided

What the future holds?
After peer pressure and research myself the future could hold me purchasing a cheap Miata like Taylor Johnson is currently trying to do for auto cross and to play around in but the truck is the first priority.

Looks good! Keep in mind I daily-drive a Desperate-Housewives-of-NoVA-mobile that happens to be based on a Silverado, so... educate me on how a leveling kit is different from a lift kit?

Notice how the rear of his truck is slightly higher than the front? Leveling kits level (harhar) out the front to be even with the rear, lift kits jack up everything even more. Leveling is more subtle than lifts for the most part.

I was considering getting a Jeep, so I know like l l this much about off-road/trucky things.

Also, the main part of this post is to comment on how much I love that Silverado video.

*Clears throat obnoxiously* Step aside, boys.

Like Zach said, a leveling kit is meant to even out the factory rake on a truck. Most leveling kits will come with coil spacers for the front and nothing for the rear, or the nicer ones will come with new coilovers for the front and a AAL (Add-a-leaf) kit for the rear or extended leaf shackles (basically placing the rear of the leaf spring farther from the frame. This causes issues with pinion angles as it swings the whole axle forward). Leveling kits are pretty frowned upon in the offroad community as they add no extra travel. The coil spacers are basically hockey pucks that are mounted on top of the strut, or something inside the strut between the top two coils, preloading the spring.

Leveling kits usually don't exist or aren't very popular for SUV's (Even though Jake insists on calling his a truck) because they have no factory rake. Even if they did, the suspension on an SUV is usually a little bit more complex, so not as cheap to dick around with.

Because trucks are designed to haul things and so they are higher in the rear with no weight while the fornt carries all the weight. Since most don't use trucks for what they're meant for, they need to be adjusted so they look normal lol.

Leveling kits can come in multiple shapes and sizes too though. Not all of us have coilovers Taylor. :fingerwag: A leveling kit on my truck would consist of torsion keys.

After I posted my post, I read up on full size leveling kits and saw the error of my way. I guess I only care about suspensions that will actually be used offroad :bootyshake:

Torsion bar suspension is stupid and it's not my fault that a 6in lift means lowering my suspension mount point 6in down in the center of the truck

It's a Silverado with a bed cap and carpet in the back. It's truckish.

Good explanation though, thank you for that

DO NOT lift a truck that you will work out of... you'll work that much harder to get the job done. If you tow and lift you are just letting more air hit the trailer "low" and it makes for a tough pull (less stable).

if you haul 3/4 of the bed weight or trailer max regularly don't even bother leveling it. leveling kits usually only adjust the front, which means when you load up the rear, the fronts are even "higher" in the air and provide less steering.

Taylor... trucks tow real trail rigs to the trails... they don't go on trails Wink

BTW: Good to see some gold old fashion love for trucks.

Is that your dad's Raptor right next to your old ranger?

I'll go cry somewhere now.

And I'll answer that for you, Dj. No, his dad drives a Rado a generation before his, but his mom does have a Range Rover Wink
