Tony Stewart Kills Driver
#1
Tony Stewart bumps a 20 year old driver in a dirt track race in upstate NY. The driver gets out on a live track and is rundown by Stewart.

Wow, so it appears he straight up Murdered a guy. How did he see it panning out any differently? Was he trying just to scare him? Stewart has a huge history of anger on the track, that's for sure.

It's funny, because Matt Kenseth didn't decide to run down Tony Stewart here...

Looks intentional to me.

It's going to be next to impossible to prove that was intentional. Getting out of your car on a dimly lit hot track wearing a black fire suit is probably something you shouldn't do. It's sad to see someone lose their life, but racing is racing and sometimes you get bumped. No need to come running into the track to try and swing your dick.

Not sure how the hell anyone can say from that video that it 'looks intentional'

youre sliding sideways on a dirt track oval at night where it is already hard to see around you (why drivers have spotters)
and a kid in a black suit gets out of his car on a hot track and walks ON THE RACING LINE.
get a fucking clue

that kid is an idiot, first of all to think he could pass on the outside, then to get emotional when he gets bumped, then to get out and walk in the middle of a hot track.

but hey, its tony stewart so he totally murdered a guy on a racetrack.

Well -- they are under the Caution Flag, and it does sound like the other cars are just idling by except one (Stewart). Just playing devil's advocate here, but I think he was trying to spray him with some dirt, etc to fuck with him and the car got out of from under him.

Needless to say, stay in the fucking car, and it all could have been avoided. Time for Nascar to start getting serious about these clowns getting out of their cars on a hot track.

Yeah I don't think Tony was trying to kill him.Maybe he was trying to spray dirt on him or to scare him. Either way that guy was a fucking idiot to get out of the car on a hot track, then proceed to walk directly into the path of cars still running on track. You see a lot of that stupid shit in oval racing after a wreck. Sooner or later an incident like this was bound to happen. Tony definitely holds significant blame here because under yellow and driving by an incident his car should have been under control. But bottom line is if that guy hadn't put himself in harm's way, he'd still be alive.

As mentioned here, this was under a caution. The other cars were idling by, but Stewart gassed it right as he approached the dude. Whether or not Stewart was actually trying to hit him or just scare him - :dunno: , but his actions caused his death, and I'm pretty sure that's at least manslaughter.

In summary, two hot-heads acting like idiots, one ended up dead.
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

For it to be manslaughter they'd have to show that he had intent to hit him. The fact that the car in front of Stewart had to swerve to miss the guy, and the guy was in all black on a dirt track at night, means manslaughter would probably be a tough sell. Still possible, but I don't think he'll get charged.

Another side of the argument I've seen on Facebook is maybe he panicked (unlikely) and gassed it to avoid the guy. Possibly thinking the guy was going to try to do something to his car.
Of course far more likely was he was trying to spray him

Yeah, given that drivers essentially only throttle-steer those cars, there is a possibility he didn't see Ward and at the last minute gassed it to swerve to miss him, but my gut feeling is that he was just being a dick. I don't think there was any intent to hurt Ward, but at the end of the day a guy died and there is nothing good about that whatsoever.

I think Tony is going to be in for quite a legal battle.

This.

Stay in your fucking car. And if you must leave your car (because, you know, IT IS ON FIRE) then DO NOT WALK OUT IN FRONT OF CARS.

Stewart deserves precisely 0% of the blame here. I don't care if Tony Stewart t-boned Ward while ghost riding on top of that giant wing with his dick in Mrs. Ward's ass. Stay in your fucking car.

I actually just watched it for the first time where they show the impact. He was definitely a bit into the throttle. That angle is horrible to tell many things. The other driver was clearly an idiot. He walked in front of a car that wasn't Stewart. I would say it would be possible for Stewart to have not seen him to the last second if he was watching the caution come out and the driver in front of him swerving and then he realized why he was swerving and gassed it to get away from him not being able to judge his distance to the guy. Of course, with all these little shenanigans and drama in oval track racing (dirt or pavement) it is very possibly he went for the spray the guy with dirt move and misjudged his distance and picked the guy up.

Maybe I missed it, is it possible that Stewart had the distance correct and the guy lunged at the car to try and grab him or something stupid and got caught by the wheel?

Let's be honest, no one would know this happened if it wasn't tony Stewart involved but either way it's sad....in a way. Guess it is a little Darwinism as well. Who the hell does that? Plays chicken with a bunch of race cars with horrible visibility and control ability

Interesting excerpt I read today:

Quote:Degrees of Attempted Murder

Like murder, attempted murder can be separated in seriousness and penalties based upon certain factors. These factors are:

First Degree: the defendant planned to kill the victim or was lying in wait for the victim. Attempted murder on a police officer will also be first degree, regardless of planning.
Second Degree: the defendant didn't plan on killing the victim. This typically includes attempted killings during a "heat of passion" or attempted killings while acting in a way which is seriously careless or negligent.

Idk... Gas doesn't look like it was the greatest decision to try and avoid someone. The first guy just passed him on the left, while Stewart just did nothing, then gave it gas and he went off to the right..toward him. Why didn't he just swerve left and use the brake? Ultimately his overall direction is towards the guy on foot, before and after he hit him, so idk. Can't really say what was what but it looks intentional, whether or not it was.

I don't follow NASCAR or its drivers, but has anyone asked what the heck Tony Stewart is doing racing in dirt track races? It that like a funsies sort of thing for him? Go home Tony Stewart, you are supposed to be playing with the big boys.

Also, definitely that kid's fault. Tony may have been blinded by the first car and that douche jumped back into his field of vision. You aren't exactly expecting to see a person running at you on a racetrack so he might have gassed to try to get around him. Or spray him with dirt. Either way that kid being a hothead ultimately got him killed, its a tragedy for his family but eventually you reap what you sow.

The way those sprint cars are setup, you basically steer with the throttle. Most people familiar with those cars don't seem to be placing a lot of emphasis on Stewart getting on it as that may have been the best way to avoid hitting the kid, who knows. As others said, it'll be really hard to state beyond a reasonable doubt what Tony saw and when - with the full helmet on, the crappy lighting and black suit, etc. To get out of the way, likely, to scare/spray the kid, maybe, to intentionally hit him - really, really unlikely.

Pretty common for their drivers to bounce around and compete in different series. Kyle Larson does Nascar, dirt track stuff and karts.

Biased author but some valid points especially about steering with throttle which other have mention. Those cars also look painfully difficult to see out of as far as peripheral vision goes.

I doubt he even saw him around the corner with the lead car who barely saw him blocking his (already horrible) view until the last second. I doubt he could have picked him up in enough time to plan some sort of spray thing.

And no spotters to tell him he's there. Not even sure at that level they have any external communication.
