2010 BMW 135i
#1
Well I had a big day car-wise on Saturday. I met someone in Gainesville, VA and sold my Trans Am to him for what I had in the car including the mods. So not a bad deal for either of us.

Then, I made a small detour on the way home and picked this thing up in Gaithersburg, MD. It's a 2010 135i with the M-sport package. Other fancy features on this one include built in navi, heated seats, premium package with real leather as opposed to leatherette, the smart key, and the premium HK sound system.

So far I love it. And there's a bunch of stuff that I want to modify on it which means I'll probably actually keep this one for a while. It needs a little more power, but that will be taken care of whenever my bonus comes in the next month or so.

Power-wise the plan is to just get an intake and tune it. That bumps these up to about 350whp since this is the twin-turbo model. This should be more than enough for what I want in a daily driver. Otherwise, I'll probably do the "golf-tee" mod tomorrow. That just keeps the vacuum controlled valve on the muffler open all the time so that it has a little more sound under 3k rpms.

Here's a couple pictures for now until I get a chance to clean it up and take some nicer pictures.

Wow, I didn't think this would still be applicable after all these years. You can do it to my car too, didn't do shit as far as my ears could tell.

Come to the Kline's meet this Friday and we'll take some pix of the red-interiored-mafia together.

A friend of mine has one of these with a ridiculous tune (and other bolt-ons) and with E85, he's putting down something like 500whp. And he said his is "slow" compared to others. Lawdjesus it's not slow. Very impressive motor.

Also, I have a friend up here in NoVA (who comes to the track, you could meet him there) who can re-code some features on the car to make it "yours." Neat stuff.

Looks great man!

I'm sure once I do the intake/tune I will be hurting for traction. So that will be the plan if I end up wanting to keep it a while. I want to make sure I like it a lot before I drop the big $'s on a LSD. The plan is to also add some of the M3 suspension bits to liven up the feel of the car a little. I think M3 control arms in the front are a pretty common mod to help the steering feel.

I'm going to have to read the book on how the windshield wipers work. I had issues getting the speed below super fast this morning until I found the automatic button.

Overall I think I'm going to like it a lot so far. I essentially wanted a faster, more modern, still comfortable version of my M3 and this is pretty close. Also it has boost, which I sorely missed, so that was the other huge draw.

Also Jake where did you get the bootlegged map updates from? Mine is still on the late 2009 maps.

Mine has a little rotating toggle on the wiper stalk to set the intermittent speed. I usually just hit the Auto button though. I believe a push down will swipe the wipers once, then there are detents if you push the stalk up for intermittent, low and high. I think.

Go here and download the CIC maps. They have had three generations of iDrive so far. Pre-2009 is "CCC" and has the older screen and controller. 2009-2011 is "CIC" and that's what we have. 2012+ is "NBT" (stands for Next Big Thing, really :rollSmile and has ConnectedDrive and a higher-res screen.

You will need to PM that guy Dracon and pay him to generate the FSC code for you. You'll definitely be able to use a USB flash drive for the update. Turns out I can, too, I just didn't know it at the time. But it's wayyy faster than using burned DVDs.

Yeah, it's incredibly stupid and originally the reason I didn't consider one about a year ago when I was looking at newer cars. Prices to put a LSD have a dropped a good bit now with companies offering entire pumpkins with a refundable core charge.

Still, really really stupid that it wasn't even an option. You're right about it being standard on the 1M. They got the M3 diff. But like I said, it wasn't even an option on the 135i.

my 38 year old car has an LSD.

does that make a 2002 > 135i :dunno:
it also has power roughly = to one of your cylinders after you get tuned, so there's that.

Yes it is, I live at 152 W Wolfe. If you're one of our neighbors, sorry. I'm sure you hate us.

Edit: Just looked at your name on the side. Yeah I live right across the street from where you used to live. I was at a BBQ at your house once.

Already getting annoyed with the clutch delay valve. Looks like that's coming out tonight. Will report on the difference. Have you done this yet Jake?

The CDV + electronic throttle on these cars makes them impossible to drive smoothly at first. I have not done the CDV on my own car yet, but will probably do it this weekend because I'm finally fed up with it. I've done the CDV removal on other newer BMWs though, and it does make a noticeable difference. I didn't use any "free-flowing valve" or whatever, just screwed the ends of the clutch line back together sans-valve.

I assume the planned tune will also sharpen up the throttle response? I feel like such a chucklefuck trying to drive Jake's car. My brain is hardwired to my old school car and having the clutch and throttle each react half a second later than I expect them to really throws me off my groove.
