I blame being a home owner; my brother says I just want to complete my redneck transformation. I turn to the great hate and power of MM! I need another 4 wheel vehicle that can haul fire wood, lumber, drywall, trash, motorcycles, and the Integra from time to time. We can debate my desired truck as much as you want as long as you are finding real prospects! I have decided I want a 9th gen F150 to fill the need.

Must have:
4.9L I-6 Engine (Kaan-proof)
4wd (its hard enough getting to the house in the summer time)

Would like:
“King cab” (every truck needs a bazooka tube!)
Manual Trans (the autos like to die)
Long bed (room for more/bigger crap)

Must not be:
Rusty redneck trash (you’ll know it when you see it)
Lifted trucks (I’m okay with a leveling kit)

came across this when i was looking for old state vehicles, no 4.9's this friday, but they sell a lot of stuff and looking at past results, decent prices, although it might be a bit of a drive down for you.

My $.02 is that you should search for a 97-03, the newer the better, with the 5.4. You should be able to find one cheap enough, and barring any spark plug ejections its a solid drive train, even the auto trans is good (for a 4 speed truck trans, that is). If you really plan on doing any towing, I wouldnt do it with the I-6 or the 4.6L V8.

Another good option would be a F250 with the 7.3 turbo diesel - you can get those with 3 pedals.

A buddy of mine is a ford mechanic across the state line in WV and he has been steering me away from the 97-03s... thats why they havent been an option. something about thin frames. Either way i've been looking to find clean Carolina trucks. I really wont be towing more than 3-4 times a year and i dont need to hit highway speeds to get where i need to go... and the I6 is a better option than the 302 IMHO.

I debated diesels for a long time. and i might still end up with one... BUT clean, under 200k mile 7.3s (turbo or not) are pulling big $$$ because of the 6.0 flop AND the new cow piss diesels.

Should I FedEx you all of my old F150/250/350 repair manuals?

Not like you'll be needing them with the I-6. Stout engine that pulls hard and damn near impossible to kill.

BTW, what's your tolerance for rust? All those trucks are pretty much guaranteed to rust over the rear wheel wells. You can buy replacement panels from LMC for next to nothing and weld them up yourself Kaan stylee.

The only real issue with the mod motor years is the spark plug ejecting, but on a high mile truck its either not a problem or its been fixed by now.

i'm cheap... one of the reasons i liked the 92-96 is that they are around $3-6k in good condition. I'd like not to break $4k on a semi beater old ass 4x4

You're definitely right about the 7.3s. They are still pulling a lot of money. I looked at a lot of them when shopping for the VBD truck. You're not going to find a good 7.3 for $6k.

I had 250k on my 2001 F150. engine had 210k on it (blew the 4.6, swapped in the 5.4). I jumped it over lots of railroad tracks (Rex and Julie, Probably DJ can attest to this) with no frame problems and it was a good truck. Just FYI, not trying to sway ya. I sold it to a good friend for $1k.

Damn i would have bought it for that price lol. All the 10th gens in my price range are 250k miles+ some. Its good to see them go that high, but i'm not paying 5-6k for one! I wont eliminate the 10th gens but for the sake of this years budget and goals I'd like to save some money on the truck!

The farthest the truck will have to drive MIGHT be to summit... lowes, the dump, and park and ride are all 10 whole miles away. i just need a reliable old semi nice beater damnit! is that too much to ask for?

If I see anything I will let you know. Oldest (cheapest) thing I have right now is an 05 GMC 3500 crew with a 454. It'll pass anything but a gas station while pulling a gas station though.

Decided craigslist was bad enough, didn't want to deal with the slings and arrows of outrageous douche from people I knew as well.
