FS: '00 Prelude, 5-speed, motor issues
#1
This belongs to a friend of mine from college, who also considered joining MM once upon a time and kinda never did. He did make an intro thread, here:

<!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://mmsports.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=9320">viewtopic.php?f=20&t=9320</a><!-- l -->

The car in question is the same one from the thread. It's an '00 Prelude with the 2.2L, 5-speed. White on gray.

Ryan had the timing belt and water pump done last year sometime, and recently texted me to say that the car puked five quarts of oil over the course of a six-mile drive. Confusedhock: The shop he had it towed to claims the timing cover needs to come off and a lot of seals are busted. And, it's apparently leaking coolant from the water pump area.

Ryan Wrote:Shop says the timing belt job I had done a few years back needs to be redone b/c all the seals are pouring out oil... they quoted me at around $2600 for a full timing belt job (including labor and new parts) as well as transmission fluid change, and some other little things. They also noted that the water pump was leaking coolant, which was also replaced with the previous timing belt job.

All they know is that the majority of oil is coming from under the timing belt cover - would take labor to figure out actual leak and at that point, might as well replace it all once engine is apart. Also, with coolant leaking, I think water pump would be only source of coolant in that area.

He has always had issues with oil burning since day one. From what I recall, it was a two-owner car before he got it, and was pretty cared-for. Anyway, he's done with it and wants to sell it to someone who'd swap a motor in or fix the one it has.

The car is in Sterling, VA and I think he'd entertain any reasonable offer for the shell. Let me know if you're interested and I'll put you in touch.

That's a good looking car. Someone should pick it up, swap anotheer cheap motor into it and daily.

Yeah, it'd be a great swap candidate on the cheap. Shame I don't have the space, money or desire to really have another project - it kinda would be fun.

Yeah wouldn't be bad for a quick flip (depending on price). I can help find a motor if anyone is actually interested in pursuing this, most likely just needs a shortblock (unless the belt slipped and fucked up some valves).

I assume 5 quarts in 6 miles means it's been starved of oil?

He pulled over when the oil light came on and topped it off to limp it home. Based on past consumption, he was keeping a 5 qt. jug in the trunk out of habit.

It looks like the car is otherwise stock, what kind of price is he looking for?

post a price... H22s are known to love their oil. it would cost around $800 for a shop to drop the motor in for the new owner. the motor price is up to what you can find Wink

If someone close to Harrisonburg buys it, there's a shop around here that has a $400 flat rate for motor swaps.

$800 in labor, or $800 for a clean H22?

OK, talked to Ryan and he's now thinking he will pay to have the TB job re-fixed and sell the car in running condition for about $3k. Maybe. Will post back with more updates.

J&R Repair. It's just outside of Broadway, so maybe a 30 minute drive from Harrisonburg. Ralph, the owner, worked in a machine shop for like 15 years so he knows what he's doing pretty well.

It's definitely a typical country shop though so don't go in expecting anything fancy.
