Forget the golf clubs, how about a mid-engine sports car with a rear seat/shelf large enough to safely transport a 70lb dog? That's the dream.

Most people just let their girlfriend sit in the passenger seat.

How does BMW justify charging an $80 per year subscription for CarPlay when no other manufacturer does? Do they think this will set a new trend. I think not. What pompous assholes.

When you're spending $40k, $50k, $60k on a car you don't give a shit about two tanks of gas per year to get a feature you want to work. Similarly, if you want that BMW you probably aren't not going to buy it because of an $80/year fee.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. ^That doesn't make it any less absurd. CarPlay comes standard in Hyundai. This is nothing more than a cash grab. Why not roll it into the cost of the vehicle?

I bet you get it free for 3 years just like their nav updates and other subscription services through idrive.

You asked to justify it, not whether it was absurd.

The days of automakers maintaining their own infotainment operating systems is coming to an end. Thankfully.

I pay the $50 a year for the online capabilities, just so i can do google online searches for POI direct through the idrive vs the out of date POI on the nav. Even running the latest map update

You don't. You can pay $80 a year or an upfront, sightly discounted rate for a longer term.

I've been driving this for a week. It is very good and the exhaust makes loud blappappappap noises if you run it against the rev limiter in Sport mode. Pretty wild that Hyundai is putting out something with legit performance parts on it (mechanical LSD, active exhaust, adaptive dampers, big brakes) and it's $29k with a 5/60 bumper to bumper warranty and 10/100 powertrain warranty.

i don't even see the N as a type-R competitor at that price, more of a GTI/Si/WRX fighter. if i was in the market for a new hatch i'd want that bad. actually fun on the street plus that insane warranty...

I think we all came to an agreement on Sunday that calling it a Type-R fighter is extremely optimistic on Hyundai's part.

I liked it a lot, it's cute as hell on the outside, sounds amazing, interior completely sucks. The only real problem I see with this car is the fact that these exist:

https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale...=spotlight

Even though the sticker price is higher on the GTI you can get out out the door for the same price. And when it comes down to brass tacts, you're talking about a 50hp gain in exchange for ALL of the interior quality and ride comfort. If you throw a JB4 into the mix, I think the GTI is also faster, just without the rise krispies soundtrack.

I could definitely see this tempting people who would've bought 2020 Focus STs, maybe it could temp people out of some Civic Sis thanks to the major power bump, but I don't think the GTI is sweating.

I definitely think it can steal some Civic SI people, but the SI is so stupid cheap that even the low price of the Hyundai won't beat it. I don't think people that like the looks of the GTI will cross over to buying a funky Hyundai.
