Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 12-06-2013

I'm kind of surprised we don't have a thread to discuss automotive news in general already. There has been a lot of interesting auto news out recently with the new wrx, new mustang, new corvette etc.

Obviously, for this week, the big news is the next generation mustang was revealed: http://www.autoblog.com/2013/12/05/2015 ... veal-info/

I was pretty disappointed with the looks when the pictures of the v6 model leaked out a few days ago, but the new mustang GT looks pretty damn good and it seems like it's going to be a great performer since they finally added IRS and all of the models are expected to lose weight and have a bump in power. The figures I heard for the GT were minus 200 lbs from the current gen and HP in the 450 range.

The other piece of news I'm interested in this week is the fact that the reveal of the C7 Z06 is going to be next month at the detroit auto show. Also interesting is that it will likely have a forced induction motor rather than a giant N/A motor like the past. Some early photochops of the car can be seen here: http://www.autoblog.com/2013/12/06/2015 ... ked-photo/

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Goodspeed - 12-06-2013

The new 'stang is definitely growing on me. For a typically-controversial new generation introduction, I feel like it was done right and have no real complaints, other than....

1. The rear diffuser needs to be black. Easy fix.
2. The headlights are cool, but I'd rather they didn't end at a point on the fender. The current slant/shape looks better IMO, but I suppose it works.
3. I miss the awesome looking current taillights. Every time I see one on the street I invariably end up pausing on them. These ones are OK.

The C7 is still too garish for my likes. By this amount of time after the C6 introduction I had gotten over the minor quibbles I had and loved the design. This one...still nope. I want to like it in that pic, but I know that horrible rear end is just around the corner Sad. Awesome (if true) speculation on the powertrain however.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 12-07-2013

I am completely dead to new Mustangs after test driving a GT500. The classics are the only ones worth mentioning anymore

Re: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 12-07-2013

Keep in mind the new one has irs. I think that alone is going to make a big change in how the car feels. But yeah, the GT500 is just too much power to be usuable on the street.

I still can't decide whether or not I truly like this design yet....I keep looking at photos here and there but....... I don't know.... haven't reached full pudge for this new design yet

...sorry Matt

Re: Automotive News Discussion - ispoonwithmugen - 12-08-2013

Yeah I'm with Dan on this one. I have a halfy going ride now. I think once I see some of the others I'll be pushed one way or the other.

Needs moar 3.5TT.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - HAULN-SS - 12-08-2013

Dat shelf ass =\

Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 12-09-2013

Looks rough, the front end like a mix of a Mazda, a 1 series and a Lancer.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Jake - 12-09-2013

I think that red is a horrible color for "official first car" photos. The gray convertible that's been circulating a bit looks better to me. I'd rock it in gray or blue or something.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Goodspeed - 12-09-2013

This might help...I think it looks much better in the flesh in comparison with the current model.

I believe both models share a 107" wheelbase, so...

Re: Automotive News Discussion - *insertusernamehere* - 12-09-2013

I mean I'm colorblind and all, but that red looks borderline pink, is i just me? That comparison made a hell of a difference. I don't like the new rear. It's probably gonna grow on me.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 12-09-2013

I think its just you, looks orangey-red to me.

I really like the sloping rear end, and the older model looks like shit sitting next to the new one, so that's got to count for something.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - HAULN-SS - 12-09-2013

Eh. I'm not sure if you took that car to someone who had never seen a mustang if they would be able to tell you which one is newer. There are definitely a lot of similarities but I think the clean lines of the current gen looks better

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Beej - 12-09-2013

Pretty meh. Then again, I don't think any (stock) Mustang has ever wowed me.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 12-09-2013

Looks like this year's detroit auto show is shaping up to be a good one. Toyota exec's hint at having a new supra concept ready for the show.

I just hope its not the one that's pictured in that link. That and I hope they don't actually make it a hybrid.

Agreed.

When I first saw official Ford pics I was underwhelmed. Folks who work within Ford Design have been quoted by the automotive press as saying that they "held back" a little on the cars exterior as they didn't want the car to be viewed as "too aggressive" in European and Asian markets.

I had hopes that Ford would scale the cars dimensions back and drop significant weight to align the S550 cars with Fox era ('79-'93) numbers or at least the SN-95/Fox-4 ('94-'04) chassis to get back in the 100" wheelbase ballpark and a curb weight of around 3,200lbs-3,300lbs. The current car (2014 MY) is just too large. Ever since the S197 came out in '05 I've always thought that car would have been so much better if it was 7/8ths scale of its actual size.

I guess I'll reserve final judgement until the new GT500/GT350/SVT Cobra or whatever they're gonna call the top dog car is unveiled.
