Hello all!
http://www.daytonainternationalspeedway....ytona.aspx
So, I may be interested in going with a few friends, but I don't really know much about how to spectate this event, nor have I ever really watched it.
1. Is it worth it?
2. What's the right way to experience it? How many days to go, what package to get? (I saw a Grassroots Mag ticket package that got me interested)
3. Fly or Drive?
4. Hotel Suggestions?
Is anyone else going?
Thanks!

1. Absolutely positively
2. Be there for the main 24H. I don’t see you caring about Conti(now Michelin Challenge) and IMO 3 days is too long.
3. With good buddies? Road trip, it’s exhausting but fun.
4. Camp or RV, you have to figure out how to stay at the track. Grill out, drink, make it a camping trip. You want to be there at 2am when race cars are jumping into the garages for repairs and you can be real close and personal without the crowds. GRM ticket is great but usually sold out way in advance.
I went with Justin/Paul/Blair and that group. I will most likely be down there this year in some capacity

4 day garage pass ticket, tent camp in Nascar 3/4, parking is included with your camping spot.
You can split the cost of the camping spot. But I think the spot only comes with one parking pass. So anyone else needs to buy their own.
You are young enough to drive over night with friends Wednesday, get there by 7 AM Thursday, eat at cracker barrel just outside the track, and get there for gate open. Camping spots are first come first serve.
Bring clothes for 4 seasons. It's been 30 at night and 75 during the day over the course of the 4 days.
Shower super early or mid day, the facilities are nice enough.
You can come and go from the track as you please over the course of the 4 days.
It's something everyone should experience. I've been to Nascar races, IMSA @ VIR & Lime Rock. But nothing compares to the 24 other than I'm assuming Le Mans.
Side note, the infield grass is super soft.
I have a bunch of friends that go every year, I really really want to go. James and i tried to go twice - once we forgot, the next time he decided Hawaii was better, this time? Stay tuned. One of these days...

Looks like infield parking is all sold out?

1. Hell yes
2. You want to be there Friday morning for the support races through Sunday. I like to fly back Monday morning. Get the best package you can, you really want garage access.
3. Fly.
4. Whatever is cheap (we usually end up ocean front). People always say camp, but I've found hotel in the way to go. Last time we stayed at the track until 1:30-2am, went back to the hotel, slept some, took a shower, and finished the race.
It is usually under camping. But looks like you'll have to call, since none of the camping is up to purchase.
The camping spot is the Geico orange lot or something like that. It's always sold out, you'll need to find a pass on ebay or Craigslist when the event gets closer. The passes get offered to people that have a history of going so they get bought up quickly. I've bought ours on ebay the past 2 years i think.
Not sure if Paul G and crew are going down this year for the 24. We (HC mid-ATL) are flying down this year, renting a van and will be camping at the track.
I'm going with some non-MM/non-NASA car friends. Just booked all my stuff today. Flying in to Orlando, renting a "Chevrolet Cruze or similar" that will hopefully be sweet-talked into a Mustang or Camaro, and staying in an Air B&B that a friend has rented next to the track.
I'll be there in time to see the afternoon of Friday, all of Saturday/Sunday, and flying home Sunday night. Can't wait!

Sounds like everyone is going to have a great time this year. Enjoy.

I'm in a Facebook group called "The Car Gays" which is exactly what it sounds like. Out of ~5200 members I've made some legit friends and a few of them planned the trip so.... why not. Will absolutely have to go hassle Honda Challenge and whoever else is there though!

Nice Jake. You haven't been before right?
James and I got our tickets as well. Still need to book our sleeping space, but we'll be driving down Friday and staying through Monday.

fwiw...
I just bought a camping pass on ebay because I don't feel like dealing with last second CL deals in Daytona. Paid ~325.
There is another seller that has 2 camping passes + 4 tickets for ~1200 or Best offer. I did the math quickly and if you can get it down to $1100 and have another person that needs a camping pass it's not that bad of a deal.
