Motorsports doesn’t seem to be as much of a talking point as compared to other things, so I wanted to see how many people out there actually keep up with different racing series.
Formula 1
NASCAR
INDYCAR
IMSA
WEC
WRC
Formula E
(More can and will be added)
I didn’t see a motorsports topic, and I am really into it, so I figured why not? What are your favorite series to watch? Why? What do you not like to watch and why? Which series requires more talent, luck, balls, etc. in your opinion? What will be the shape of motorsports in 20 years? You know what to do

Formula 1: It just hasn't been the same without Schumacher
NASCAR: I used to be down for the road courses... but ehhh... I call it nap time, where if I set the volume just right, I can hear the crashes and wake up for the replay.
INDYCAR: Growing up, these were F1ish cars that drove in circles like the NASCARs did. boring.
IMSA: I'll watch IMSA because of the friends in the business. I stalk their instagram to figure out what team hired them for the race and root for that team.
WEC: I'll watch this when I can. I really enjoy the strategy of endurance racing... I know there is strategy in NASCAR that is similar, but I think the action is better with WEC... plus lets see those NASCAR teams do it for 24 hours.
WRC: I think their coverage of the races could be better. Its hard to follow when they jump around like they do at time. Also I think some of their events are in very boring environments.
Formula E: I watched the first season. I might get back into it now they the tech has moved up some. There is similar strategy stuff I like... boost buttons and all (at least they did).... the car changes were a little weird... but it made things interesting. Can you have two cars set up so similarly that the times don't fall off? it was a challenge for the builders IMHO.
I have found that I enjoy participating in motorsports a lot more than watching. even if it has me laying on ice cold concrete in the wintertime prepping the car for next season.

Check out the highlights from the last Nascar race at the Roval. I'm usually not that into it but that race was really exciting

I've been really diving into Formula E in the past year it's pretty exciting and definitely different from other forms of racing. I'm interested in what Jaguar will be doing with I-Pace in the future though.
It will create closer, tighter racing where someone can’t go out there and just run away with it. It’ll also give lower budget teams more of a change because it’s putting the racing into more of the drivers hands, and those guys who finish in the back are all amazing drivers. They are just limited by their budgeted equipment.

Formula 1 - I can't stand more than 5 minutes. No real racing
NASCAR - I watch the road courses *if* I have nothing else to do and even then ill have it streaming while I am in the garage. The Roval was alright, the true road course Sonoma is better
INDYCAR - I havent watched one of these in years and doubt I would be interested, Oval *snooze*
IMSA - The actual IMSA Weathertech, again, I will watch if I have nothing else to do. It's a long race and typically not much movement around kind of like F1. The higlight reels are good to watch since there is 3 or 4 exciting passes in the 4 hours. I watch passively.
IMSA - Continental Series - I know I am biased but this has been my favorite to watch for 3 years now. Huge fields with only 2 hours, cars closer to what I race; and lots of names that I personally know. There is far more passing going on in one Continental Race than a year in Weathertech and F1. Since it is more budget, the pit stops aren't gauranteed to be perfect and so it can cause drama in the pits which also is interesting. Basically its just a *budget* F1/IMSA/NASCAR race all rolled into one with all the mistakes/penalties/drivers who want to prove themselves that you would expect on a lower level.
WEC - Cool but man these are long and I view the same as Weathertech
WRC - Havent watched one in over a decade, I just remember they were always on at 2AM.
Formula E - Racing isn't racing without the noise. Removes some of the passion, and I got plenty of other things to waste my time with if it doesn't have passion.
I rarely watch any motorsports on TV. I will watch portions of the 24 Hours of Lemans and 12 Hours of Sebring, but not much else. I really enjoy watching Isle of Man TT, but only in small doses. Watching in person is a good time. I enjoy going to VIR/Summit and watching NASA races.
I can't pass up watching a few minutes of monster truck freestyle when I find it on TV. The little kid in me loves that stuff.

I used to be so into Monster Jam when I was younger. I would love to go attend an event at some point. Their freestyle technique has changed a lot in the past years. Now if you can’t balance the truck on your front two tires and walk it around the arena, you suck lol

I have gotten really into the IMSA series recently because of what you mentioned. It’s great racing too. I had the opportunity to help the JDC Miller TCR RS3 team down at VIR this year, just kind of shadowing, helping crew members wherever they needed, etc. I’ll make a post about it a little later, but I fell in love with that series after I worked on that team for a weekend. Simple cars, relatively speaking, great drivers, lots of drama.
With Formula E, I was at first turned off by the sound. But the racing in that series is one of the best around. I don’t like all the gimmicky fan vote turbo boost crap, but I love the series. I agree, racing needs to have the roar of a huge engine. Nothing will ever beat that. But it’s still a pretty good series
AMA and MotoGP are by far my favorite motorsports to watch... the passing and close racing is nuts. Jail break a firestick... watch/record... I drink coffee and prepare breakfast almost every sunday to get some MotoGP under my belt.
I LOVE the Isle of Mann TT but I swear they screw up the coverage every year with something dumb.

Haven’t honestly watched much bike racing. Looks awesome though

Madison Car Club sounds a lot worse than Madison Motorsports. But tv motorsports isn’t for everyone lol
Only races I've watched are when I'm at the track, or when you were racing. I enjoyed it because you were driving. Otherwise I don't have much interest.
I watch sports occasionally but have a hard time being invested in it or following along. I don't understand how people are able to keep track of who is who, all the stats, then remember what happened during the game.

I watched zero motorsports until 3 years ago. The breakthrough for me was finally knowing people and having interest in participating in the series.

i have zero interest in anything circle track or drag. fun to watch in person but if its on TV i'd rather go to sleep.
rally - lost interest in the WRC level, the driving's incredible but its really formulaic at this point now with all the cars following the same recipe book. still really enjoy the US/Canadian amateur/gentlemen's level stuff and keep track of it on youtube...proper variety, guys doing grassroots patch jobs on broken stuff, vintage cars, average joes fighting it out with rich guys
FIA World "US" rallycross - love it, want more and want to see it in person
TORC Offroad Championship / Stadium Super Trucks - so much fun to watch and i'm not a truck guy, but you have to love seeing these things air it out and bang panels. the SST's on roadcourses are completely ridiculous and i love it. i'd love to see a race in person. not super into BAJA because its more of an adventure race than wheel to wheel
IMSA - still love to watch it when i catch it but don't go out of my way to see it.

I understand that. I have a hard time watching as well if I don’t know the people competing. I’m all the racing series I watch, I have a guy I pull really hard for. I absolutely love learning all of their back stories and what their personality is like on and off the track.
I watch most F1 races, even if it's mostly habit these days. I'm not hardcore enough to watch all the practice/qualifying, but if only I knew how good I had it watching the V10 era back in the day...sigh. It's mostly "racing" via pit & tire strategy these days which is really lame, but there have been murmurs of trying to improve the series, so there is a glimmer of hope. Every once in a while, though, there is a truly exciting race. Japan next weekend will likely have rain, so that might make things interesting...unless Lewis just takes off as he's quite good in the rain.

AMA/MotoGP guys have balls the size of hot air balloons in those sports. Watching/learning passing technique is unbelievable and is fascinating how tactical it is.

They are changing the entire front wing next year. It’s going to be a lot simpler, with the goal of the dirty air behind the car to be less “disturbed” so that other cars can actually catch and pass instead of being stuck
