2008 was pre-fracking. We have a ton more gas now than we've ever had in the world. I think it's a smart move. Not to mention, crossovers these days get within 2mpg of the sedans they're built on, so I doubt it will be the same issue.

So normally I'm not a fan of the 911 cabrio (or any cabrio really), but this 911 Speedster is the tits. I'm sure they'll only make enough so that only 918 owners can buy them and sell them for a 200% on BaT but it's nice to see Porsche building what the people want. Without A/C though, I can imagine many of these will almost never be driven.

I posted this in the Hot and Bothered thread and everyone hated it. I love the speedster look. The 997 speedster was beautiful. I like this one too, but the front paint scheme is terrible. I'm curious to see if the mirrors actually make production. They are cool, but seem kind of out of place.

Shit I didn't even notice the mirrors, those are awful on this car. I agree on the paint job, I would imagine you can get it without the racing stripes, kinda like how you could get different paint jobs on the 911R. Although I wonder if you'd have to go PTS to get it without the stripes.

Either way I love that shape. A Boxster Spyder may be a more reasonable way into getting a Porsche speedster with a GT engine and a manual though.

Fuck I love those.

I'm also really tempted to get into a 2nd gen Boxster S, they've really slowed down on their depreciation and we're gonna need a 2nd set of wheels at some point.

There are few surer bets to motoring pleasure than a clean 981 S. Future classic methinks, definitely in the case of the Boxster Spyder.

So Telsa did it. They have hit their goal of 5,000 Model 3s per week. They are about a year and a half late, but I guess better late than never. I am seeing Model 3s pop up EVERYWHERE now. I see at least 2 per day on my commute and it's not the same 2 cars every day. I know the internet loves to whine about Telsa and Elon and complain about literally anything that has to do with the company so how does MM feel on Tesla? I love what the company is doing, love Elon's attitude about shaking things up. It doesn't bother me about their missed production numbers or Elon ranting on twitter. Some of the safety reports about the factories is troublesome, but I think for any company growing at the pace they are pushing Tesla there will be some hiccups.

The Model 3 is ugly, they're selling expensive variants and the "$35,000 Tesla" isn't here and won't be for a while, the lack of knobs/buttons is still an asinine way to use a moving vehicle's controls, and they're literally building them in a tent in their parking lot.

Pass.

I too have started to see a lot more Model 3's recently. Good on them for starting to deliver at a reasonable rate. I'm still not high on Tesla's longevity due to all of their financial shenanigans and ridiculous hype and promises. Not to mention the poor build quality and the whole autopilot thing.

At the end of the day though, they've built enough of a brand that many people are willing to overlook all that, and they've succeeded in selling cars where some of the mainline manufacturers have struggled. The real test I think, is when players like Porsche really get in the game, and companies like BMW debut their second generation of electric cars.

i like what Tesla is doing to/for the industry, but they have a long way to go until they make something appealing to real people and not just the loaded.

they know how to market the shit out of a brand though.

Tesla is doing neat things but holy shit Musk is coming unhinged. He'll be ousted sooner than later.... I dont know what that means for the company's products/innovation/stock pricing though.

I'm curious what you definition of unhinged is when it comes to a CEO. I hear this a lot when discussing Tesla and it usually comes down to people not likely his extravagant promises and banter on Twitter. Personally neither of those things bother me. I like his interaction with the public and I just ignore his lofty goals until they find to fruition.

I think without Elon there will be major trouble innovating. He is the driving force behind everything telsa/space x.

FWIW I think the market today is responding appropriately to this news. Down 7% as of this moment. They were working people around the clock and in temporary facilities to meet this arbitrary goal. It's a run rate that isn't sustainable for them yet, they're way behind on the $35k car promise, and they aren't going to be profitable Q3 and Q4 this year like Elon  Heart  says. I'm just waiting to see if this batch of cars ends up being recalled because the wheels fall off and they forgot to put the airbags in.

Stealing artwork
Strange behavior in investor calls
Executives with a revolving door
Shitty working conditions for the factory

Plus the hyperloop distraction, all the combative behavior on twitter, and the inflated market (stock) value of tesla, relative to its profits... who knows. I dont think as a business they will fold, but I think they are in for a rocky ride still.

My $.02

I really *hope* that none of this blows up. Fast innovation and change is needed and I feel like the success of Tesla will propel other makers into pushing harder. We are in the space race of cars now and it's awesome.
