So the plot thickens.

Dealership replaces HU, it works for 5 seconds and dies. They track it down to a "Human Interface Module". Wtf? So more parts ordered and that will go in next week.

I ask the service writer if this is something he commonly sees and he says no, but then recommends I talk to finance about one of the extended bumper to bumper plans if I plan on keeping the truck. Apparently I can still opt in to it before the current bumper to bumper expires. This repair would have been probably $1500+ if it happened a few thousand miles after it did. I call the original dealership I bought it from and it's about $2400 to extend bumper to bumper to 10 years, 100,000 with $0 deductible if I service the truck at their dealership. So I guess the gamble is, do I keep the truck, forget the extended warranty and plan on potentially spending that much or more if something non-powertrain related breaks. Or get the extended warranty in the hopes that it would save me money over the long run.

I was leaning pretty hard back toward keeping the truck but now I'm waffling again. With so many of the issues with this truck being electrical, I'm just not sure if the stress worth putting more money into this truck.

if you want a warranty, shop around. you can buy it from any dealer - and there's no requirement that they service it, that's bullshit.

Yeah I could shop that around, he didn't say I had to service it there he just said it would waive the $100 deductible if I did.  I'm sure there are other no-deductible warranties out there tho

I'd be tempted to get it fixed and be done with it... You can have the best warranty, but it would still suck if it's in the shop all the time...

Ironically I was checking out a low mileage '14 S6 with the V8T at Carmax today.  That was one of the only vehicles that really stood out to me but it was more than I wanted to spend.  I decided though that there's really nothing out there worth my time in the price range I want to be at.  Then I started thinking that right now I really don't need a second vehicle, we could probably get by as a one-vehicle family until something catches my eye or I really need a second one.  So now I'm leaning toward getting the head unit fixed, getting it detailed, selling and cashing out the equity I have in it and sharing the Mazderp with wifey.

The saga continues...I'll probably end up with a Raptor.  Big Grin  Either way, I think I've mentally divorced this Canyon. As much as I liked this truck, dealing with possible electrical gremlins will drive me crazy over the long run.

I'm still planning on selling the M3 hopefully before too long and I really haven't figured out exactly what I want.  I'm really pretty open to what I want as I don't have any specific plans for a second car.  I'm probably not ever going to seriously get into tracking because it's just way more money than I want to spend, but I would like something that can handle an HPDE or two without much issue.

Budget is around 15k but I can stretch it for something I'll really like

What I want:
RWD
Manual
Highly prefer 300hp+

What I don't want:
Something that has a lot of serious flaws and will need a lot of preventative maintenance (think e46 m3)
Something I've already had

Some things on my radar:
370z
350z
99/01 cobra or 03/04 mach 1 (Mach 1's don't have IRS though so probably not)
Z3M (probably S52 if I got one)
E30 to do a s50/s52 swap
C5 corvette
CTS-V
Boosted E36 M3
GTO (not a fan of the looks so probably not)


Anyone have any other suggestions that I might be forgetting?  If I don't find something I really like I might just wait a while until I get desperate for a manual.  The GTI with a tune is fun enough to drive that I could live without one for a bit probably.

Eh it's too similar to what I have now. Literally the same motor. I want something at least a little different.

I've also found I'm not really a huge fan of the torqueless high revving motors as much as I would have thought a few years ago. They're amazing when you're full throttle above 4k, but around town they're just gutless and kind of a chore to drive.
